Defeat in detail is absolutely the way to go, yeah.I mean, the way you beat the Empire is not all at once. You beat them by hitting subgroups of dudes with more dudes than they have in fights you can win until they run out of dudes.
How much of this is conjecture? I hadn't realized we'd been given anything like this much about what was going on.Yeah, it's been established that their Will to Fight is effectively bottomless (Not literally bottomless, but we will absolutely bottom out before they do if we throw numbers against numbers--again, even the ones who know that this was a setup and have everything to lose are still all for it. Only the Mages are balking--and even that only because we did an end-run around them and got in before Stormspeaker was distracted, and therefore they couldn't basically fait accompli the Mages into being part of it and they were caught in the act). We're not going to win by playing fair--and the kingdoms seem to very much favor a high mobility, high tempo style rather than a grinding advance--for good reason, as the Empire is absolutely the superior force.
Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if the Conspiracy isn't actually just secretly behind the fall of the Manakete, but the survivors of a big manakete coup--who through some unknown method managed to steal or somehow seal the dragonstones of the ones who weren't part of the Conspiracy and used them as expendable shock troops to dominate the land, and the Master was one of the handful of survivors who avoided this fate and pushed back by uplifting the humans. Since then, the Conspiracy's been rebuilding their numbers and influence, while making sure the humans don't grow too powerful--presumably by surgically taking down forward thinkers like the Emperor, and making sure there's regular conflict to keep people at each other's throats. They've blown their expendable slaves by now, so every Fell Manakete is something they don't dare lose. I imagine they can't actually increase their numbers over time either, or we'd be fucked--five or six young Manakete are not going to beat an army of experienced Fell Dragons no matter how precocious they are.
They're pissy because Ryza's intervention is meaning that the bloodshed and disorder isn't as great as they counted on it being. Presumably because they're getting ready for another go now that their apparent man (The Regent) has gotten total control of the most powerful human nation, so they've got a new batch of expendable proxies to exert dominance with.
Imagine if you got it dead on and Soaring's just tearing their hair out right now like "how did he KNOW?!"
I will say that there are some parts that are very close, and some that are completely off. I am finding that juxtaposition very amusing, hence the Funny tag.Imagine if you got it dead on and Soaring's just tearing their hair out right now like "how did he KNOW?!"

Two problems.Hmm, I wonder, if Ryza in her dragon form could learn to do a airplane bomber style.
Because she would be too high in the air, for the enermies on the ground, to hit her. Just think about it.
But than Again, she may need to learn a spell to do that.
So, what I'm hearing are a lot of solvable problems. Two problems.
The obvious: Munitions. In the absence of explosives, our options are long-range attack spells or one big rock. The latter is a terrible idea for what I imagine are self-evident reasons.
The less obvious: Targets.
Even with dedicated spotters and cutting-edge 20th-century sensors, bombers in the first World War couldn't consistently hit a target smaller than a town, and WW2 bombers weren't that much better. Ryza probably won't need to fly that high to avoid bows and normal mages, but she doesn't have a flight crew. She has to aim and arm munitions (cast spells) and evade enemy aces (wyverns) and flak (long-range attack spells), all by herself.
The absolute best I'd hope for is roughly the accuracy Ryza already has with Bolting. Now, that accuracy isn't useless by any means! It's just something Ryza can already achieve, with Bolting.
If Ryza finds a spell which creates a solid fireball that she could drop on enemy formations or something, maybe this is worth revisiting. But with the attack spells we have access to, it's just a more complicated way to do stuff Ryza can already do with her feet planted on solid ground.
Didn't realize this was a Temeraire crossover quest now lol.So, what I'm hearing are a lot of solvable problems.
What if we tied a bunch of mages that know siege magic to Dragon!Ryza (so they don't fall off if she has to execute barrel rolls in aerial combat, of course) and they did the bombardment? I think we've got a winning idea here everyone!
Humans require tools to cast powerful magic. We'd have to tie their tomes to their arms, too. What if we tied a bunch of mages that know siege magic to Dragon!Ryza (so they don't fall off if she has to execute barrel rolls in aerial combat, of course) and they did the bombardment? We end up tying lots of things to other things tied to Ryza, creating a very silly looking airship powered by a very very tired Ryza.Humans require tools to cast powerful magic. We'd have to tie their tomes to their arms, too.
Come to think of it, do they have the tech for a hot air balloon, or is there certain fire resistance chemistry that would be ideal first? We end up tying lots of things to other things tied to Ryza, creating a very silly looking airship powered by a very very tired Ryza.
Are you suggesting we build a hot air balloon, or attach a hot air balloon to the silly-looking airship?Come to think of it, do they have the tech for a hot air balloon, or is there certain fire resistance chemistry that would be ideal first?
Wasn't there a thing about needing to train a wyvern to be used to a caster on their back, due to the whole Red alignment thing? I'd assume the same holds true for Pegasi being Green aligned. Can't just hire any 'ol Whitewing squad, because their Pegasi aren't used to being ridden by a caster casting.I'm trying to figure out why we're trying to conjure up wacky ideas to get air superiority when the basic idea of "vessel that generates lift via heat or air magic" seems like it would be pretty intuitive and someone would have come up with something.
Best answer I've been able to devise is "Wyvern Riders and Peg Knights already exist, how are you going to justify spending money on something experimental when you could just hire a squad of whitewings and have your mages back-ride like Mario Kart Double Dash, throwing blasts down from their flying mount perch."
