I think she would be more likely to listen to Kelton after she got told off because she still likes him but feels bad for almost causing him romance trouble. And we really need Belle for the night attack

I would like to advocate against the night attack. Wagering our infantry showing up on time to a die throw is way too risky. And unnecessary. If we punch through and take out three groups of the enemy without them escaping to alert the main army, we don't need it. If some do escape and alert the main army, we're still on even footing. Whereas if we wager on a night attack and it doesn't work, the cavalry will be completely exposed without infantry support. That can't happen, we'll be destroyed piecemeal.

Uh, that looks like you're still voting for night. Wouldn't you be looking for something like:

Whoops, this is what I get from doing things first thing in the morning.

[X] Plan Dawn Breaks

[X] Plan Maniple

We actually definitely want a night attack. Or, at the very least, an attack that initiates at the break of Dawn, so that we're catching them with their pants down. Remember, this is an army, and an Imperial Army at that (one belonging to the continent's superpower) and we want every advantage we can get. Additionally, especially if we do a good job, the Night Attack can absolutely use some minor illumination to coordinate if they absolutely have to.

I don't contest that a successful night attack would be great, that's a given. The problem is, what if we fail the roll?

Our infantry don't show up until too late, and our cavalry gets caught too exposed, without infantry protection. It could easily be a disaster.

I personally believe the risks are worth the reward.

Why is the risk necessary, though? We could not take the risk and likely get the benefit of surprise anyway. And the worst case scenario would be an even fight, not a disaster, which is the worst case for a night attack that goes bad. That's just not an attractive risk/reward balance.

Why are you so thoroughly convinced that our highly mobile cavalry cannot disengage if the infantry are late? Why are you so convinced they'll charge right in and get stuck in the first place if the infantry are late?

The enemy has cavalry too, so disengaging is easier said than done.

Even if they do disengage and get chased off the field, then we probably don't have cavalry for the battle because they're busy shaking or dealing with pursuit during the critical time period, which is about as bad.

This happened in the ancient world all the time when cavalry were a new innovation, cavalry would try to operate independently and get chased off the field and split up from the main army for hours or days. It's one of the reasons you need to be really careful with army deployment, and later generals learned to keep cavalry close. Cavalry really need a body of infantry to use as a stable base of secured area to project outward from and return to, otherwise all their mobility makes them too prone to losing ground.

You want the infantry and the cavalry in one place at one time for the battle to work. This is a contest of roughly equal forces, we can't give up anything we've got.

[X] Plan Dawn Breaks

I feel like I've been voting for some risk-taking lately so I figure I better try to rein it in a bit and stick with the safer plan this time.

Then again, a compass only works if the land doesn't have obstacles and the world has a magnetic field.

We don't even know if the world is ROUND.

I think this is an acceptable plan, mostly because I see the highroll for day and night plans as being near-equivalently valuable but a night plan going wrong is a lot worse because then the infantry to fall back on aren't where they should be, so I'd prefer a little safety net in case Salvador comes knocking. And as a reminder, Salvador is still a variable that we don't know anything about, so his arrival can create that bad scenario.

With no need for Belle as a scout, she can stay behind, and she'll probably be far more canny to any attempted deception on Melissa's part, and more likely to actually have Melissa stick around her to begin with.

[X] Plan Dawn Breaks
My vote is motivated by the unnecessity of a night attack coupled with my 'literally who' reaction to Selinda

Alright, due to @JAGwin 's tiebreaker: Maniple wins. Sorry, was busy today.

Could I get a d4 roll for if/how many wyverns show up?
