Fate/In Glory Of (Worm)

This is one of those things where I want to answer but doing so gives either too much information away by denying or confirming something.

The most I am willing to say is QA is involved. Her/it's/his presence has come up in the text a few times actually.

How do you define Shard Bullshit™?
Ehh baisically it works cuz shards are bs. It's on the same tier as unexplainable magic or toonforce. Where the only explanation is that must work cuz it works. Like we'll if a little girl can access and bring to the her immediate location a basically infinite number of dimensions(Labrynth) then why can't whatever power work.

[X] Costume/Name/Presentation Preparations

It was early afternoon on Saturday as Taylor sat in the library.

Technically she could do this at home, and would probably have more privacy, but something about the act of getting out of the house made this more… official to her.

For the moment, she was trying to decide how to present herself when she went out; costume, name, etc. The important ways to disguise her identity so she was tracked back to her house and stabbed to death in the night like Fleur had been a few years ago when New Wave had unmasked.

Well, she was pretty sure she could tell the giant to defend her during her sleep. Probably. Her dad wouldn't be so lucky, however. It was an important consideration.

Taylor refused to let her future cape life and non-cape life overlap. Absolutely refused. She even had a social life now. Kind of. Nikki was probably her friend. That counts, right?

Taylor was faced with a unique conundrum.

Her power wasn't linked to her physical body- she had yet to find a range limit.

This afforded her a rare opportunity in the world of parahumans; being able to use her power from a distance. In fact, she could take it one step further.

Once upon a time, a young Taylor had just started to get into murder mysteries- a favourite of her mother's, albeit something of a guilty pleasure. At some point, the discussion had come to the best murder mystery and her mom had made the comment, "the best murder mystery is the one that no one knows is a murder mystery."

It was that sentiment that came back to her now:

The best way to keep anyone from finding her real identity might be to be entirely removed from her power. If there was no cape whose real identity was Taylor Hebert, it would be exceedingly harder to find out that Taylor Hebert was a parahuman.

There were downsides to this approach.

She would have to rely on some way to remotely relay information to the giant, as well as have a way for him to communicate with others unless she went for a fully silent route.

On the other hand, not only would it put her identity more out of focus, but it would physically keep her away from harm. Flip-side being that it would be harder to get the giant to come to her if something did happen.

Each had its own merits; staying close to the giant gave her more control over it, while staying away kept her safe.

There were pros and cons for each.

She just needed to weigh them.

Author's Note: That was a close vote; 11 to 8. Anywho, short chapter given there isn't much for me to say. Going to be a couple of short chapters now. Two chapters a week seems to be a good pace at the moment.

Choose carefully.

There will be important consequences for whats voted on here.

Man, remote-controlled giant is a really cool idea...but does come with the problem that Berserker can't communicate with others by himself, leaving a bit of a massive problem with trying to cooperate with other heroes or the police, or victims. Imagine you're walking down a dark alley when you get jumped by a mugger, or a group of roaming gang members, then a massive 8ft tall giant comes crashing into the ground, beats them to paste, then turns and looks at you. You don't exactly think "Hero" do you?

He can't call the police and report he's captured a group of Nazis to take them away, he can't call the heroes to pick up Skidmark and Squealer after defeating them, can't call 911 and tell them he's rescued a group of kidnapped women from the ABB. Berserker is a violent storm, and people would not consider him and his likely actions as 'heroic'.

Having Taylor around puts her and her identity at risk, but also allows her to be the person talking to the victims, working with the Heroes, the PRT, and the police, and be the hero she wants and needs to be. The fact that it forces her to actually interact with others more is also a big draw in my book. It's important to keep in mind that a passenger gives a power it thinks solves the parahuman's problem, but due to it often not understanding the underlying cause of the problem, gives powers that only solve the surface level issues. In this case, Taylor, weak and friendless, gets a very powerful friend. He will never betray her and has the ability to protect her from a lot of threats. But the root of Taylor's problems come from her own communication issues, the betrayal of her friend and family, and the ignorant malice of authority figures in her life.

Having Taylor out in the field will force her and teach her how to talk to others and how to work with them. It will certainly help make Berserker be treated better if it's known by the Heroes that he's not just a one man whirlwind of destruction and that there's someone they can talk to that can keep him in check.

How do you define Shard Bullshit™?
@YoRHa_42s got it pretty much exactly;
To me there are two kinds of Crossovers for Worm, powerwise;

An Alt!Power is when QA or some other Shard does some bullshit to unknowingly emulate some fiction out there.

This power is more often than not, not OOC at all and is subject to all the usual Shard Bullshit such as Power Nullifiers, Trumps, Shards themselves such as Administrators and other Vital Shards, Thinker Headaches, Precogs, Jack Slash and Cuntessa screwing you over.

This seems to me when an author is writing a power that seems interesting to use in Worm without actually using anything but the cosmetic appearance of the power.

A prime example is that Ben 10 cross where it's explicitly been stated that the OC has triggered with a Changer power that works on Shard Bullshit but just so happens to have forms that look and have similar strengths to Ben 10 aliens.

The other kind of Alt!Power is more of an AU thing than just changing or introducing a novel power expression based on some work of fiction out there.

Here, the character in question did NOT trigger with a Shard Power at all; via whatever reason the author is welcome to use, whatever power from that fiction is used completely works on the physics of that system, implying that it exists and making it an actual crossover.

For example, there's more than a few Ben 10 crosses that have either an SI, Taylor or an OC have an/the Omnitrix or any of its variations end up on their wrist. This means that their Grey Matters tech isn't blackboxed, that their Alien X's are probably never going to show up in the story at all for balance reasons(🤣), etc.

Here's my prediction;
This will lead to how our powers develop:
Remote controlled Giant may lead us to be the stereotypical Worm Master with 0 personal strength and relying on their Minion. We MAY eventually be able to interact with and give orders mentally at some point, but the OP may end up having us face a threat that would affect us personally, for the sake of story conflict. Taylor may never really get that he's sapient due to heir distance.

However, my hope for the Action vote is that we may develop a bit like an actual Magus a bit. Certainly we aren't goin to slack on physical training when we may have to run around and dodge stuff when we're in the thick of the action, but maybe us nearly getting hurt by a threat would lead Herc to do some NP worthy bullshit or other things that would make Taytay realize that he's not just a projection, but actually sapient.
