[X] Taylor is going to focus on keeping the giant from appearing and let things between Nikki and Glory Girl play out. No one will probably die, at least? Hopefully? Zero chance of the giant appearing.
Glory Girl stared down Nikki, but just as easily Nikki returned her gaze without flinching.
Taylor didn't know what would happen if the giant appeared and put Glory Girl through a wall.
And she didn't want to find out.
Ergo, she forced down on the imaginary muscle as hard as she could.
Slowly, a creeping dread seemed to crawl into Taylor. A cold flush through her veins that gripped her heart in a vice. It seemed to ignore every layer of clothing she had, as it wormed its way into her.
Fear. The kind of fear that brought cold sweat and harsh breath. Nameless, without cause, irrat- actually that's a lie. She knew exactly where the fear was pointed at.
Nikki stared Glory Girl down, even as she started to sweat. "You are assaulting my girlfriend and I in the middle of a crowded mall, without due cause. Continue and I will press charges."
Glory Girl did her best to kill Nikki with her eyes. "You broke my sister's nose after she helped your girlfriend and you don't even care." It was disgust that dripped from her voice. She backed away from Nikki as if she was a particularly dirty cockroach, putting at the furthest of arms' reach. "That's fucked up."
Nikki's stare turned dangerous. "Neither did she! Panacea did not CARE! My girlfriend was hurt! Bad enough that the so called 'cure all' was needed to help her! So what if Panacea got a bit hurt for once, she will heal! Then you have the audacity to threaten and assault us on our date and for what?! Because your feelings are hurt that your brat of a sister got a booboo!? You are just a bully! Throwing your powers around like a thug with a badge!"
It was weird, more akin to one of those one in a million chances where someone rolls a dice on a whim and rolls snake eyes. The proverbial thugs with a badge showed up.
Or more accurately, the mall cops. A pair of them.
Taylor's grip on the imaginary muscle was fraying.
The lead one took one look at Nikki and then Glory Girl.
"Glory Girl, we'll handle it from here."
Glory Girl continued to stare at Nikki for a moment, then she scoffed and dropped Nikki back into her seat.
She truly had to tamper down the urge to let the imaginary muscle flex.
Unfortunately the food court chairs were not balanced for such an action and Nikki's seat tipped over with her in it, spilling the Russian girl onto the floor with a short "ow." Taylor had already been out of her seat when Glory Girl had grabbed Nikki and she rushed to help her up, even as she shied away from the floating heroine. Thankfully it didn't seem like she had hit her head.
"There's no need. Everything is fine." The heroine huffed.
"Really." Drawled the mall security person. "Hunky dory, aintcha?" He looked at Nikki as Taylor helped her up. "Miss, are you hurt?"
Glory Girl raised a brow at that. "Hunky dory?"
"Not bad. Head is sore." Nikki said as she used the table to leverage herself up. "Oh good, the food did not spill. It is tasty. Are you okay Taylor?"
"Yeah, you didn't fall on your head did you? It didn't look like it did…" Taylor fretted as she was pretty sure Nikki had landed on her butt.
"I did tip over but I am not injured." Nikki stood up, dusting herself off before replacing the chair and setting their bags on the table.
She looked up at Glory Girl. "Are we done? Our date is not over." Taylor's heart jumped into her mouth.
"We're done for now. I don't want you going anywhere near my sister." Glory Girl ordained.
"I am fine with that." Nikki stated in agreement.
"I'm not." Stated the security guard. "I can't have you be antagonizing capes."
"Antagonizing? We were sitting here eating lunch." Nikki told the man.
He gave her a 'how stupid do you think I am look' in return. "If someone was loudly bragging about breaking my sister's nose I would have broken more than a nose."
Nikki frowned. "I was not bragging. I simply do not feel an excess of guilt for it. Nor did I intend for Glory Girl to overhear our conversation."
He raised an eyebrow, "really. You sounded quite proud."
"I thought it more matter of fact. I may not like the girl. But it is not a matter of pride. Just fact. I do not like how she treated my ill girlfriend. I did break her nose. I do not feel overly guilty for it. But I will offer an apology." Nikki told the mall security.
"You should be apologizing to my sister!" Glory Girl folded her arms across her chest.
"I do not think she wants one." Nikki stated. "But I would give her one if you think she would."
The guy sighed. "Okay, here's the thing. You keep antagonizing the hero who is literally here to protect us from supervillains and I will have to escort you off the property. Do you understand?"
"I understand officer. I will not antagonize anyone." Nikki answered sincerely.
He stared at her. The kind a cop does when they are trying to make you feel the gravity of your situation. "I'll make it even easier, don't speak to her again."
Nikki stared back. "I promise." She offered.
"Uh-huh." With that he looked at Glory Girl.
"Everything's clear." She told him. "I'll head back on my patrol."
He gave her a nod.
A weight Taylor didn't realize that had been pressing in on her heart left, letting her breathe a shaky breath. She hadn't realized the kind of gravitas that a cape could have.
The moment she left. He turned back to Nikki. "I'd better not have another problem with you. You get one chance. One."
Nikki nodded. "I will not waste it sir."
He and the other one gave one last look at Nikki before their focus went elsewhere and they went off into the crowd. Said crowd was split between a minority of paying attention to whatever had happened with Glory Girl but a fair number were busy lost in their own world.
The stares did not leave the pair after Glory Girl left.
It reminded Taylor of Winslow.
People watching her for their entertainment.
"Well. It seems everything is settled." Nikki dusted her hands off and sat back down at the table. "I do hope this has not ruined our date Taylor."
Her skin itched.
The stares felt like ants on her skin.
"Taylor?" Nikki slid her hand across the table, her strong hand clad in warm flesh gently taking Taylor's hand. "Are you okay?"
Taylor isn't feeling great and is mostly thinking about Winslow now. Should she try and tough it out or should she call it a wash and the pair should cut their losses for the day?
[] Yes, Taylor wants to go home.
[] No, she'll suffer through it.
Author's Note: Oops. I should have done this a while ago.
Uh, I got distracted by video gaming? It happens >_<
The mall cop was like, this close, to banning Nikki. One might argue that Glory Girl picked a fight but, like, imagine if someone was breaking your beloved siblings nose and showed absolutely no remorse.
Frankly the mall cop in my mind was still going too lenient.
Instead the consequence is Taylor the one who was on the receiving end. Oof.
Anywho! Vote, this should be… interesting regardless of who wins.
