True, but frequently the deviations from one's intended course are precipitated by the twin offerings of achievements and experience. Acting only with regard to what's most immediately appealing and viable might yield the most genuine experience, but in all likelihood it would be a less holistically consistent narrative than one than that was envisioned beforehand.I'm not speaking with you as an example, since you were one of his examples. I'm saying that it is okay to deviate from the narrativist style of play that was being advocated for, and that many people do.
Still, incoherence is a risk of the medium, and I don't know that anybody has the authority to make definitive statements about what is or is not 'okay' to play. Such things are inherently subjective.
