[Exalted, ?] Most High

Rihaku, how are the fights organized? Is it (for a given competitor) one fight per day? I'm just wondering because IIRC our "turn certain non-successes into two successes" charm resets daily.

No, it can be fewer or more, depending on how the schedule goes. It's unpredictable! By which I mean that your politicizing, or lack thereof, can have a great deal of impact.

So we have two infernals here Mnemon Ayala and Fei Ling. So somehow find a way to guard Nilul from them and then see about convincing them to go renegade. I think the fully unleashed Ambition should suffice to bring out their memories of Odyssial to terrify them.

Now the Peleps 2nd and the stranger masked in black lamellar are the bigger dark horses here.

And the infernals here now, brings to mind Lixes the would be coadjutor to infernal Ulyssian. I wonder how he is doing now in this run of the quest if he is not dead in Malfeas.

Oh, I forgot to include a vote choice! What will Ulyssian do tonight?

[ ] Decompress - Try to get into the optimal mental and physical state before the battles to come. Hang out with Nilul, do some light exercises and sparring, maybe try to find a Sorceror to send an Infallible Messenger to the Academy? Will ensure you enter the fights rested and ready, though idleness, even of this relatively active kind, rarely sits comfortably with Uly for long.

[ ] Investigate - Scout around the premises, or target a specific individual. Allows you to take one more Case Profile choice, including the AVOID / ENCOUNTER power. If you select this, please choose your second Case Profile choice. You can also try to set up two characters to fight each other, though that is not guaranteed.

[ ] Attempt to Poison Everyone - Shouldn't be that hard. The main issue will be making sure you aren't caught. All the food is stored and served from a central kitchens location, and the staff will probably already be preparing breakfast. You doubt it will filter out all the competitors, but if it weakens some of the competition and eliminates others, that's good enough. Risky though.

[ ] Write-In - Write-ins will receive an effectiveness bonus tonight.

Does the Dawn Anima reset work on Solar Arete?

No, that creates One True Build-ism. One FSSA is already insanely broken. It's basically a perfect attack.

You can't assume they have fully intact Past Lives. Also, you are probably dramatically underestimating their strength. But they don't currnetly seem to be aware that Nilul is here, no more than Nilul (or Uly) is aware that they are.

He's being a successful 1CD assassin, strategist, and spy.

My comment on this option, which I think I'll be choosing:
We have an impenetrable disguise.
Our undetectable sleight-of-hand skill also works for placing poisons in things, iirc.
We have some costless full Larceny Excellencies available.
We still have today's FSSA unused.

I reckon we can pull it off.

[X] Cathak Polemgaos
[X] Cynis Esertia

Poisoning doesn't seem that effective, idleness isn't as good, so investigate seems like a good option.
Sword and Self meditation cos it'll still be viable...I guess.

Aha! But what if Nellens Raern is already there, attempting to catch you?

OR ATTEMPTING TO DO THE SAME THING

So, we have:
Admiralty pick: Uly, man about town
Legions/wildcard pick: the man in black?
The Immaculate pick: Strange Heart - Eccentric, possible grudge

Cathak pick: Cathak Polemgaos - E7, excellent at pretty much everything presumably.
Mnemon pick: Mnemon Alaya - Sorceress, Infernal.
Nellens pick: Nellens Raern - uncertain caste, struck me as a more socially-balanced Ulyssian, lesser threat martially, greatest threat information-wise?
Peleps pick: Unknown - the second is far deadlier than the champion? Oddity.
Cynis pick: Cynis Esertia - ascetic, poet, calligrapher. Good-natured.
Sesus pick: Sesus Taldrim - martial artist? Power build, possible trick with the bandages.
Ledaal pick: Ledaal Haruste - Air adept (probably?), general of a Legion.
Tepet pick: Tepet Fokuf - Lord Regent? Don't know what that means.

Iselsi pick: Unknown.
Ragara pick: Unknown.
V'neef pick: Unknown.

[X] Write-in: The Power of Friendship - Specifically, shadow the Nellens congregation. Make Saery's extensive network of mortal informants your own. She is clever and well-connected, and Raern seemed smart enough to rely on her abilities. You will do likewise. Hopefully House Nellens's information gathering abilities are as great as you believe, and can turn something up on some of the unusual entrants this year that you did not expect.

We desperately need every edge we can beg, borrow or steal. This one gives us the best chance. Damn the Solar XP, full power to the torpedoes!

[X] Cathak Polemgaos
I'm inclined to find unknowns more worrisome than even terrors like Polemgaos. Possibly that's just getting a false read from my narrative instincts, but we'll see. That means the situation with Peleps and the man in black worry me. Unfortunately, neither of them are one we can pick to have retroactively investigated.

And when we poison everyone we can pretend (disguises are useful) to be poisoned too, so people know that even when poisoned Ulyssian is still the greatest warrior in the Realm.

Say the poisoning goes of without a hitch on our end, with no one suspecting us, how big a prestige hit would we take from winning the tournament where half the participants were either crippled or even unable to perform at all? It'd be something of a pity to end up winning the thing only for everyone to write it of as "Oh, that season."

What are our strategic objectives here? Are we trying to win the tournament? Make a name for ourselves? Create contacts with the most powerful fighters of the Realm? This is a big opportunity and I think that we should take full advantage of it in a way that is more than just showing ourselves to be the superior combatant.

I think that our first step should be to carefully determine our objectives. We cannot really develop a good plan until we know what our goals are.

You mean "How much prestige would a heavily poisoned Ulyssian gain if in his inaugral entry he managed to triumph over slightly poisoned Heroes(tm)?"

Because there will still be other competitors. There's E7 Dragonblooded (who will know how to deal with poison), Wood-Aspects, and Infernals. Really, everyone who is on the level of deserving to be here (not that everyone here is necessarily on that level) should have some resistance to poisons. They'll hopefully be at least slightly hindered (every advantage helps) and Nilul will know to play up how sick we are (which we'll have evidence of in the form of symptoms produced via perfect disguise charms).

Just to clarify: Is the Nellens write-in just an information thing? There's not going to be any poisoning attempts there? It's just sort of using the Nellens delegation to Ulyssian's ends?
