Perhaps he's a false flag, but Polemgaos seems to be the biggest threat, someone we want to scope out and leave for last, though the armored figure does worry me. Sword & Self gives us some lasting benefits that'll endure even if we switch out the Storm Armor later. Poisoning is just because I really enjoy Ulyssian's thoroughness when it comes to sowing the ruin of his adversaries; let's give them a taste of what the Austs got. A literal taste, in this case!

Not sure if the poisoning is worth it in this case, our targets being likely resistant to such things, when compared to finding out details about our competition. Anyway, I think the armored figure could be a good target, considering how little we know about that particular individual. Though there is always the chance that don't get much out an individual who tries their best to conceal their identity and abilities, it still might be worth the shot.

No one wants to chill? You guys are lame.

Tepet pick: Tepet Fokuf - Lord Regent? Don't know what that means.

He's the appointed Regent in the Empress' absence, a powerless figurehead. A spectator, not the Tepet pick.

Say the poisoning goes of without a hitch on our end, with no one suspecting us, how big a prestige hit would we take from winning the tournament where half the participants were either crippled or even unable to perform at all? It'd be something of a pity to end up winning the thing only for everyone to write it of as "Oh, that season."

Mm, it would vary, but scandals have occurred here before.

What are our strategic objectives here? Are we trying to win the tournament? Make a name for ourselves? Create contacts with the most powerful fighters of the Realm? This is a big opportunity and I think that we should take full advantage of it in a way that is more than just showing ourselves to be the superior combatant.

I think that our first step should be to carefully determine our objectives. We cannot really develop a good plan until we know what our goals are.

A good thought!

You mean "How much prestige would a heavily poisoned Ulyssian gain if in his inaugral entry he managed to triumph over slightly poisoned Heroes(tm)?"

Because there will still be other competitors. There's E7 Dragonblooded (who will know how to deal with poison), Wood-Aspects, and Infernals. Really, everyone who is on the level of deserving to be here (not that everyone here is necessarily on that level) should have some resistance to poisons. They'll hopefully be at least slightly hindered (every advantage helps) and Nilul will know to play up how sick we are (which we'll have evidence of in the form of symptoms produced via perfect disguise charms).

Animal-based poisons still work as normal on Wood Aspects, though they are capable of learning anti-Poison Charms (and Poison detection Charms) like anyone else.

Also, you can choose the Mnemon girl, if someone in the thread hasn't figured out who she is yet. But in that case, it will only reveal her identity, not her nature.
So... if we investigate her after correctly guessing her nature, we figure out that there are Infernals who aren't Nilul here? That seems like something we should be doing if we want to prevent everything from going to shit. Other than that, Cathak dude seems like a badass, so he should probably be our primary concern. Not that they aren't all badasses, but we can't research them all. More's the pity.

Anyway, update was amusing, and Nilul is tolerable and even entertaining when taken in small doses. I'm glad we settled on a compromise option.

I think you guys are a little too gung-ho about the poisoning stuff, and ignoring the benefits of chilling! On the eve of a great test, it's a good way to raise your efficacy, especially since you didn't learn how to reduce your need for sleep. Uly's already tired from prolonged social interaction. Don't believe you can't get caught or worse, just because you have a few detection-avoiding Charms. This is the big leagues. Would Ulyssian himself get caught out by poison?

Can we get a preliminary vote count?

Exalteds are superhumans, but they do still need downtime.

Unless Uly already have a Charm to disregard that.

Oh, Investigate is actually winning. Huh. You guys would take one simple profile action over being fully rested for the fights? There's up to 4 fights you have to face this tournament if nothing goes wrong, potentially more if anything untoward does occur, and Willpower regen has been nerfed this edition. And your build (any strong combat build, really) spends a lot of Willpower. Entering with a bonus can be quite helpful, unless you plan on Limit Breaking mid-fight.

What do you intend to do if you discover that Ayala is an Infernal (which you don't know about)?

But how would you isolate the "Infernal Exalted" hypothesis from all the other possible explanations of what you discover, if you find anything suspicious at all? Nobody goes around saying, "Oh, I'm <Exalt Type>, and here are my goals, abilities, and power level!"

He already complained about being tired and we do need to be rested. I would pick the poision option except the stinger opponents will not be effected

Having fewer weaker opponents to wade through mean we'll have more energy for people like Polemgaos, so it does help us out in that regard, perhaps even to a greater degree than justing resting would. Plus, it just seems in-character for Ulyssian to prepare for any fight to an almost ludicrous degree; what kind of paranoid Solaroid doesn't poison or spy on his enemies the night before a tournament?

Be even more suspicious and careful? Try to find out her purpose for participating in the tournament? Investigate further, possibly even finding out about Infernals? Should also warn Nilul.
Exactly, so you have no way to resetting your Willpower by abusing the Primordial's upgrade!
Upgrade?! That's heresy, that is!

Anyway, resting just seems OOC is all. We just got done socializing, and you want to subject Uly to more? That's cruel! Even an Exalted Ulyssian can only stand so much Nilul. Just let the man go off and do some relaxing espionage.

Just reread the update and this jumped out at me:
To any outside observer, her expression made it clear that she was conveying spitefully amused nothings to Ulyssian, very near an outright insult to the Cathak general. Ulyssian groaned internally. Cathak Vaela shot them a look of burning hatred.
... and if you'll recall this:
Cathak Vaela, chief among Nilul's rivals, a lavender-haired queen bee sheltering under Professor Numida's ferocious aegis.
Basically, it seems that Nilul just exploited us and insulted Polemgaos to get one over on her rival. Fairly minor in the grand scheme of things, but a telling reminder that Nilul has her own agenda.
