Right. And if they follow through, I will be ecstatic! But they haven't done enough to earn the benefit of my doubt yet.
I still don't see why CP2077 has to be the torchbearer for trans representation in gaming. I mean it'd be nice if they did, but I don't see people going after other popular RPG franchises a fraction as strongly.

And considering how ubiquitous and affordable body mods are, they can probably switch genitals as casually as changing clothes.

... I'm suddenly reminded of John Difool randomly selecting parts for a whore house's 3d bio printer. The results were... interesting.
Mr. Studds are literally just 300 eddies. That's the price of a good handgun and can be installed on either gender.
And Bodysculpting is equally affordable relatively speaking at between 1,200-5000 eddies depending on the level of quality you want.
(600 eddies to increase your attractiveness by one point.)

It's more that if they're going to make trans people part of like, the background noise they should be able to be the main character, too. Especially if their presence as fetishized lust objects is supposedly justified by the internal world building. Like... if we're going to be in there, then we should get treated with some respect too.

Hm, interesting.

So what's the conversion rate between eddies and us dollars?

Good point. So... what's the price of bread in 2077? Or is that a luxury, too?
real food is an absolute luxury in 2077 pretty much everyone not a rich corpo eats like a kibble kinda stuff

Kibble: A mass-produced nutrient mix that satisfies most requirements for sustenance, but tends to look, smell, and taste like the dry pet food it takes its name from.
Generic Prepack: A step up from the common TV dinner, these meal packs can be microwaved or refrigerated depending on what's inside. Many come with their own chemtabs for heating or cooling. The cuisine isn't inspired, but it beats kibble.
Good Prepack: A good restaurant meal in a package. The best quality pre-made meals you're going to find. For anything better, eat out, or prep it yourself (and who really knows how to do that anymore?).
Fresh: You know what that is. Well, at least, you've met someone who's eaten it.

Edit: Wow It's literally called Kibble I thought I was miss remembering.

We still know very little about the game, it's entirely possible they intend on adding trans options for PC's and trans NPC's into the game.

For someone incredibly dedicated to defending this game's honour, you sure as shit don't seem to know much about it. The studio has been asked, and made it clear that anything outside of the gender binary is a low priority.

As I said above, all I was expecting was sensitivity. The game doesn't exist in a vacuum, it exists in our world.

Bread? Like, made from actual ground wheat? Go find one of those fancy-schmancy arcology restaurants if you want "bread". The rest of us zeroes settle for algae cakes and fried guinea pig.
real food is an aboslute luxury in 2077 pretty much everyone not a rich corpo eats like a kibble kinda stuff
Ninja.

But seriously, you should be able to find black market meat around here somewhere for a few hundred eddies. Guinea pig or rabbit if you're lucky. If not, dog or cat.

Or rat.

I can vaguely see their point, despite the deliberate antagonism of the delivery. From its inception, the cyberpunk genre has been filled with outcasts and unmentionables. The first lesbian characters I ever read about as a kid were a mage/decker couple in Shadowrun: Changeling. The mage actually had a monologue on how the UCAS had banned abortion clinics, and how it didn't save her from needing an alternative to being an underage mother raising a child of rape.

Cyberpunk 2077 would be a great place to introduce all kinds of outliers as people, but the question is as always is whether or not society in general will buy the freaking game. All this trash-talking does not help.

Maybe people are antagonistic because it's like the five hundredth time they've had this conversation.

According to the wiki, enough "Kibble" for one week is 50 eddies.

So that 5000 eddies price take is 100 weeks of food.

If we compare "Kibble" to the USDA's "Thrifty" Food Plan, 50 Eddies equals ~40 USD. This conversion is pretty accurate, as the Cyberpunk prices are in 2020, while I'm using 2019 USDA figures.

So, top-of-the-line treatment is roughly equivalent to $4000 USD. IRL, based on the wiki and figures I can find(not an area I'm familiar with), such treatments would be in the tens of thousands, maybe more.

hey my double post is weird

And for a lot of other people in the world, it's the first. Kind of the point of not being like everyone else. Acceptance comes from surrender. If you want to change something, expect resistance. Don't expect people to like it when you get in their face screaming about a personal issue.

Which is why I'm annoyed at all this stuff where someone screams, "I'm being oppressed" when it's just people typing on a message board. Cops are actually abusing medical marijuana users and black people in their own neighborhoods, and so many declare victory when they force a game developer out of business.

You entered this conversation being all "look why can't people just accept being a sex object as legit rep?" That kinda set the tone.

Also do you think that trans people don't face some pretty horrific problems? Like yeah, there's bad shit happening in the world. That doesn't mean we can't care about this and advocate for change within a hobby a lot of us enjoy. People don't change if you don't push them to or demand improvement.

"Personal issue", when trans people are already viewed in the real world as either sexual perverts or weird, taboo sex objects when they really just wanna be people and enjoy life like everyone else. GJ, GE.

So just like a bunch of games already then?
Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Balders Gate, the Secret World, Fallout and etc.

Also as I pointed out there's not much to suggest that the figure in the ad was a transgender character. Could have been a queer person or a male character crossdressing (If crossdressing is even seen as a taboo which given nudity in setting is a valid fashion choice...)

No, but I usually keep my ear to the ground regarding LGBT content in videogames.

Hm, interesting.

So what's the conversion rate between eddies and us dollars?
Twice as much.

Loaf of Bread in 2020 is about half an eddie.

For someone incredibly dedicated to defending this game's honour, you sure as shit don't seem to know much about it. The studio has been asked, and made it clear that anything outside of the gender binary is a low priority.

Well for one I already said that CDPR isn't looking into non-binary pronouns to be added in the game.
No idea if that also edges into no queer content period as I've said, details are scant.
And while unfortunate I can sort of see why considering just how much voice acting is in the game, how expensive it can be if they had to pull in all of their VA's to record a bunch of new lines and how a looot of languages have gender baked in which would make it difficult to translate and honestly most people probably would never think of using non-binary pronouns in their game. Even a lot of trans people wouldn't since a lot of trans people peg themselves on the binary.

As for the second part? Yes it exists in our world but it's depicting another. A world that is not in any way nice or sensitive.

Ah yes, the inevitable hot take: "Maybe you minorities should stop being so uppity?"
I'm a coward who just wants to play video games. Why are you bothering me and not some of those psycho cops in Cleveland?
Because you know I'm a wimp even before you account for the mods being on your side.
nothing more cyberpunk than stanning for a corporation hey
Wanna take on an evil megacorporation? Try Axon. They've been driving competitors out of the market for decades, refusing to improve on their antiquated weapon cops use to torture suspects.

It's a step forward from "weirdo". One that "geeks" in general still haven't crossed. Every year Hollywood still makes comedies about jocks jamming peoples' heads in toilets, and fully expect cheap laughs.

Pardon me for feeling weird about someone else screaming, "I am not a glamorous special snowflake you should buy things from!" I'm still working on, "It's not okay to beat me up just because I'm at school to learn algebra instead of date or practice sports."

Well.

They're not doing great.

Content warning for NSFW imagery that is rather fetishy/transphobic.

Images found here, source of the cropped image is this twitter post here.

EDIT: There's a particularly fetishy advertisement for a soft drink featuring a woman with an accentuated dick outlined by her clothing. Screenshot from ingame, featured on NVIDIA's website.

really

Goddamnit, if it were literally any other studio I could trust that was a clever and insightful commentary on the commodification of identity. Instead, this is probably just typical chaser bullshit.
Yes, director. So watch the attitude.

you know, I should probably be more mad at you for waving your staff banner around for the second time this week

but given the circumstances, I'm really not

They have some prices listed in the Cyberpunk 2020 book "When Gravity Fails"

Basic sex change is 4200 eddies 1 month therapy, 1 week hospital, diff 20 to spot

Advanced sex change is double with the Cost and Recovery Time doubling again for every +5 you want to the spot check difficulty

Ability To Bear Children is +5000 and Ability To Father Children is +1000

I'm gonna blow your mind here, but geeks are not an oppressed social class.

Also like half the geeks I knew in high school, including me, also did sports. I ran track and did Academic Decathlon. I took the math class with robots and AP Physics. And outside of high school, no one really gives a shit if you're a geek or not.
