it being as common as it is is silly, but actual, real world, humans will wear a collar entirely of their own free will. An actual one. So yeah, it happens, as odd as it is.

I've even heard of kink people complaining about people who wear collars just because they like the way they look, which seem... a questionable take in various ways. Though fashion would be a harder sell if everyone of a particular body type is wearing one*. Even then, though, I don't see what that has to do with being one-dimensional? At least, I don't see how it'd make it worse...

*Unless it's FFXI, because collars are mandatory for just about everyone in just about all circumstances due to how the graphics work.

I wonder how many works with dog or cat people give them flea collars? Or would something else work better with a humanoid body plan?

There is a particular thing I see in stories where you have random fights that feel like the bandit attacks in Skyrim.

The protagonist stumbles upon some Acceptable Targets. The Acceptable Targets immediately attack them. The protagonist slaughters them all, and no further thought is given.

The misunderstanding where the one lover walks in on the other lover looking like he/she is cheating on him/her and storms off before giving his/her lover a chance to explain himself/herself.

Grates my gears everytime. Be a nice change to have said lover actually let the other lover explain themselves.

I'm also having a hatred for the deadbeat father trope which I've been noticing in animation a lot lately while making the mothers the true embodiment of love, because apparently fathers can't be capable of just as much love and mothers just as much of deadbeats.

That's why I'll give RWBY credit for doing that with Yang's parents.

Well, there's also the extremely common alternative of the dead mother, and loving father.
It's just that there's only so much room for affection in the narrative, so they can only budget one parent.

The true benefit of polyamory in fiction, more tragic backstory per character.

"My parents are dead."

"I thought you said they were deadbeats and traitors?"

"That's 3rd dad and 5th mom that are deadbeats. 2nd dad and 3rd mom are traitors. 1st dad and 4th mom are dead."

"Dare I ask about 1st and 2nd moms?"

"Lesbians, so they are immortal."

"Why do you have six parents?"

"Turbo divorce."

"What's a turbo divorce?"

"It's when you end up with six parents."
