I don't think we need to use this event to gain respect for foreign cultures as we are already interacting with the Forest Priests and Sunset Clans very well and as a trade republic we will naturally gain such tolerance and acceptance of other cultures through simple nessesity as we interact with them. I imagine once we meet and peacefully interact with enough cultures we will gain a value for it.[X] [Lesson] Respect. Their defeats only came about from not respecting the Oldlanders and from that, the Nersondur Republics have learnt to respect the beliefs and strength of others.
Humility is good, but considering how much contact we're going to have with other cultures, having respect towards other cultures we meet is more important.
Are you not defining respect?I don't think we need to use this event to gain respect for foreign cultures as we are already interacting with the Forest Priests and Sunset Clans very well and as a trade republic we will naturally gain such tolerance and acceptance of other cultures through simple nessesity as we interact with them. Humility however is something we desperatly need now as our people are very aggressive in everything they do. We were ready to go to war with the Sunset Clans simply because they cutoff trade and contact with us without even finding out why they did so first. Our civ seriously needs to learn some patience.
Shouldn't we take a build boats action before we explore the water, or is it better to explore the water first with bad boats?Edit: Exploring is nice. Especially when you get kicked off the continent (for the second time).
There's a difference between respecting a foreign culture, and tolerating it to get goods that you want.I don't think we need to use this event to gain respect for foreign cultures as we are already interacting with the Forest Priests and Sunset Clans very well and as a trade republic we will naturally gain such tolerance and acceptance of other cultures through simple nessesity as we interact with them. We have had a build boats action before, but our current boat tech is lackluster. There's always a risk for explorations and expeditions to go wrong. I'm gambling on the chance that there's some islands just beyond the horizon or within two horizons away from us. The Polynesians did some amazing navigational feats after all (I wonder is there's an astronomy tech somewhere).
But anyways, a build boats action will be done by the province actions. Since we are an island nation with a focus on trade, I'd be surprised if it didn't especially since they've been doing it since province actions were a thing in this quest. If the exploration fails due to insufficient boats, then we at least know we need better boats to further explore that area.
Also, means we pick up their cultural values easier, which is apparently already a problem since we are a decentralized civ. Not saying we definitely shouldn't take Respect because of that, was my second option behind Pride, but consider carefully the consequences.Respecting foreign ideas means that we would potentially adopt some of their ideas, inventions or strategies without having to be inherently interested.
Humility doesn't seem to tie into the idea that the civ would stop being aggressive. Just that they stop assuming the civ is lesser than themself.
Respect should give the "don't fight a person for no reason beyond you can, respect another groups beliefs and abilities."
That is due to being dependence on stone tools as it isn't cost-effective to make non-canoe boats. If you want to get things like galleys or longboats, you need to get better tools such as metal. We have had a build boats action before, but our current boat tech is lackluster.
