Hmm, I wonder if we could have goaded the other trainer into not using any fire attacks. It would have been amusing. :D

I'll just stick with notmi's write-in. My priority for the battle club was getting Wurmple to evolve to Cascoon, but now I'm not sure how that'll be possible, short of surrendering and waiting for another chance.

@MData If Wurmple makes a good showing, but still loses, does he receive any XP?

If we wanted to go the vicious route:

[ ] String Shot straight at Charmander's head.
-[ ] Poison Sting once Charmander is blinded/distracted.
--[ ] Once Charmander is poisoned, kite Charmander using String Shots, alternating between Charmander's head and feet.

1. String Shot is likely sizable enough such that a weak attack like Ember couldn't simply burn it away in mid-air.
2. Once something is lit on fire, it still keeps moving straight towards its target. And again, Ember is likely weak enough that it can't re-direct a String Shot that's aimed at the Ember-user straight on.

But going by the system MData seems to be using, there would be a good chance that Wurmple misses, and then Charmander burns him to a crisp.

...Just had a quick thought, is it possible for Pokemon to suffocate? If so, would it be possible for Wurmple to String Shot Charmander's face, blinding him and covering his mouth and nose and just keep firing String Shot until Chamander faints? Sure Chamander could set the String Shot on fire, but as long as the String Shot keeps Char's mouth shut and nose covered we could win via suffocation KO, right? I am going to wait for a response to this before deciding on changing plans.

Even if the Charmander couldn't burn or rip off the String Shot, suffocation tends to lead to death. Which is... not exactly the desired result of a pokemon battle.

Battle Club Part 2
"String Shot!"

"Ember!"

Both pokemon launch their attacks at each other. The Ember strikes Wurmple hard, knocking the him to the ground, and causing him to tumble. Wurmple struggles to get up but the attack took a lot out of him.

The String Shot however, had a one in a million shot, hitting the Charmander right in the eyes. Inferno cries out in pain and tries to get the goo out, only succeeding in getting his hand stuck at the moment.

You break out in a smile. Maybe this won't be as bad as you thought.

Wurmple, still on the ground, fires more string at the Charmander. The String hit Charmander again, managing not only to cover his eyes in a fresh layer of the stuff, but stick his hands to his head.

"OH COME ON!" Keon yells. "Pull that stuff off and keep using Ember!" He orders the Charmander.

The Charmander meanwhile, is still struggling to pull his hands from his face. But his tugs only succeed in pulling him off balance. Wurmple meanwhile, climbs to his feet and fires a Poison Sting at the Charmander. The Charmander is knocked back but mantains his balance, shooting Embers wildly. The shots however go wildly off course, never coming close to hitting Wurmple.

By now, the spectators are laughing at the display. And a few of them, including Philosoraptor and Neptune, are cheering on Wurmple, yelling for him to knock the Charmander out.

A smile breaks out on your face as you consider what to do.

[X] Keep Going

We're still screwed if it manages to get it's head out, so I think continuing with the plan is the best thing to do.

[X] Keep Going

Best Wurmple! String Shot is probably pretty difficult to get rid of, but Charmander's not going to need much vision to start aiming a little better. Hopefully the sheer shock and panic will tire him out. Even if we don't poison Charmander, enough Poison Sting hits could take him down anyway. :)

Battle Club Part 3
Wurmple fired another volley after volley of Poison Stings at the blinded Charmander. Blind, and disoriented, he is in no position to dodge them. Even though he's poisoned after the first blow Wurmple doesn't let up, even as the Charmander continues to shoot Embers at Wurmple, all fated to miss.

Hurt, and angry, the Charmander finally gives a Herculean tug and RIPS the string from it's face. He glares pure hate into Wurmple before unleashing another Ember at him. The flames hit Wurmple hard, making him fall to the ground.

He doesn't get back up.

The referee starts counting down.

Wurmple doesn't move. The crowd is cheering on the Charmander. The few that were on your side groan in disappointment.

"Four!" Wurmple starts moving.

"Three!" Wurmple starts to climb to his feet.

"Two!" Wurmple gets back on his feet. He's having trouble standing from the pain, he's covered in burns, and he's probably going to faint properly soon, but he's not going down without a fight.

"Wurmple is able to battle! FIGHT!"

As soon as the referee says fight, they both launch one final attack. Poison barbs and fire fly across the arena, an extension of the desire to knock out their opponents. Both attacks hit their targets at the same time, the flames engulfing Wurmple while the poison rakes the Charmander.

And both Pokemon are still standing.

They start each other down. Both trying to stand dispute their injuries, waiting for one to faint first. For a few seconds, the arena is quiet, the tension of the room physically weighs down on you.

And Charmander falls to the side.

You let out a breath that you didn't realize you were holding in.

Keon drops to his knees as Inferno drops, the poison proving too much for him. "NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Keon yells. "GET UP! I DIDN'T RAISE YOU TO LOSE TO A BUG TYPE! GET UP!"

Ignoring Keon's yelling, the referee starts counting down. As the number gets closer to one, you find a smile breaking out on your face.

"THREE! TWO! ONE! Inferno is unable to battle! Wurmple is the winner!"

The crowd erupts. Cheers for your upset, people yelling "BULLSHIT!" at the results. People cursing at the loss of what they thought was a sure bet, people laughing at Charmander losing, all that and more mixes into a symphony of sound. Lost in all the sound was the sound of Wurmple passing out.

Neptune and Philosoraptor hop and fly over the wall dividing the arena and the spectator area to check on Wurmple. You rush up to him as well.

"Are you alright!" You ask. You're going to take him to the Pokemon Center after you're done here, you decide. You're about to take out Wurmple's pokeball before he's engulfed in a bright light. His legs retreat into his body. He seems to curl into a round shape. Before you know it, spines start protruding out of the shape.

When the light fades, you're looking at a newly evolved Cascoon.

"This isn't over!" Keon yells as he storms out of the Battle Club. Thankfully, not before throwing your winnings on the floor. You collect it anyway.

You're mobbed as soon as you step out of the arena. Something you're used to. Still, it's because of something you did. Or at least something your pokemon did and not just being seen with your mom.

It feels good, the sense of accomplishment, even as you push your way through.

I am surprised that it worked out so well to be honest. Let's go to bed before something happens to reverse whatever luck we had.

Hahaha that was tense, very nicely-done.

The rolls were amusing too. Charmander got his absurdly high roll for removing the String Shot, but Wurmple nat 10'd his "Die roll for HEROIC MOMENT". :D

I now really like our new Cascoon and want to keep him around. Anyone got a suitable name for our champion?
