Your name is Jacob Anderson and at the same time, you are not. You are in fact a clone formed out of Ebon Power made to mimic your existence prior to being made into the Ebon Lord. Your purpose in life is to maintain the illusion that the one known as Jacob Anderson is still a normal teenager in his everyday life and not the chosen champion of some eldritch being. So far, you think you've done a stellar job at it.
Nothing much has changed at school except for a new transfer student joining your class - a Japanese girl named Asuka Nanashi whose family moved here because of her father's work. And for some reason, she seems to have an interest in your best friend Ando. Your classmates seem split between being happy to have a cute girl like Asuka join their ranks and pissed because Ando's hogging all the new girl's attention. Not that your best mate notices these kinds of things.
All he knows is that a cute girl has just joined his class and wants to be friends with him. Christina doesn't seem to mind while Roselyn has been fuming every time she sees Ando talking to the new girl. You, on the other hand, have very different thoughts about the new girl. If you were to judge by her energy pool distribution, you believe that you can safely say that she was most likely a ninja or related to a ninja faction at the very least. There are almost small innocuous things that you notice as well such as the way she moves, how she's actually always on alert for something and the way her body is built for both strength and speed.
You're almost certain that she knows that you've noticed something as well but has yet to confront you about it. You don't know what the ninja girl wants with Ando but there's no way in hell you're letting anything bad happen to your best friend. At the very least she doesn't seem to hold any hostility towards the guy but ninjas are supposed to hide that kind of thing so you can't be certain that is not the case.
You can't use the Phantasm Seekers since they seem to only listen to Ebon and while the Golems are intelligent and willing to do things for you, most of them were too conspicuous to avoid attention from a ninja.
Still, your questions about Asuka are answered a couple of days later when you and Ando were headed over to the Arcade, cutting through the park to save time. Ando had been showing off this family heirloom that he received from his grandpa back in Japan - a tanto, the equivalent of a short-blade or dagger in Japan if you recall correctly - when you felt a distortion ripple over the both of you.
Your surroundings had changed. What was once a park for of oak and maple trees had been transformed into a bamboo forest. At first, you thought that the two of you had been drawn into a Wraith's Haunt but the place didn't have the feeling of doom and gloom that you associated with Haunts.
This was something different.
"Jacob! What the heck just happened?!" Ando was understandably confused and perturbed by the change in scenery. "Why are we suddenly in a bamboo forest?!"
"Quiet. We're being watched." You whisper as you shush Ando. Yes, you could feel several presences nearby, all of them with above average life energy. Ninjas. Did Asuka have something to do with this?
"Jacob?" Ando was looking at you with a strange expression on his face. Crap, you were taking this too calmly. "Do you know what's going on?"
You shake your head. You had as much idea about what was going on as much as Ando did. However, with your exposure to the supernatural world, your reactions to such seems to have become somewhat muted. "Come on. We should try and find a way out."
"Okay, you lead the way, tough guy," Ando said half-jokingly. You didn't call him out on it since this was pretty normal. Ando would cover your back while you face an enemy head on. Putting your trust in one another, the two of you move through the bamboo forest, following the path ahead of you. Eventually, you reach a large clearing where several people are waiting.
"Hiroyuki Ando, you have arrived." A voice, tinged with condescension, from one of the people in front of you speaks as the two of you enter the clearing.
"Are you fucking kidding me." You swear as you take in the appearance of the speaker and their cohorts. No matter how you looked at them, the five people before you were dressed up like stereotypical ninjas, black clothing, mask and all.
"Ninjas! Holy crap! Ninjas!" Ando it seems was decidedly awed by the appearance of ninja, having yet connected the dots.
"Domo, Hiroyuki-san. My name is Kaido of the Red Moon Clan." The lead ninja says, introducing himself, bowing with his hands clapped together. "And I have come to retrieve the Yoiyami blade, the very blade which you hold in your hands right now."
"Huh?" Ando responds dumbly before glancing down at his grandfather's gift. You yourself couldn't imagine what was so important about the thing. You couldn't sense any kind of magic or life energy within the thing so why did these ninjas want it. "Um, what's so special about it that you er...did...this?"
"Hmph, I see you do not know the significance of the Yoiyami blade. No matter, it is of little concern to you. Now if you just hand it over, we shall all be on our way and you will have an interesting story to tell your friends. I promise that will not harm not even a hair on your head, Hiroyuki-san." Said Kaido. Behind him, his cohorts simply continued watching the two of you without a word. For a few moments, Ando seemed to contemplate on doing as the ninja asked. "Well?"
"....Tell me one thing, Kaido, right?" Ando's eyes had narrowed and gained some steel to them as Ando continues. "Even if you keep your side of the promise, your friends aren't bound by it at all, isn't that right, Kaido?"
The ninja didn't answer immediately, letting the words that Ando spoke hang in the air for several seconds. Then Kaido let out a snort of amusement. "Quite an astute observation, Hiroyuki-kun. And I'm afraid you are correct." The moment Kaido said those words, the ninjas around him began leaking out killing intent. Ando let out a shiver and unconsciously took a step backwards while you raised your armed and took on a fighting stance. "I had hoped to distract you with the promise of freedom to make your deaths painless but it seems that we shall be doing things the hard way after all. Men, kill them."
You pull Ando back as three ninjas charged at you, wielding kunai, katanas, and other typical ninja weaponry. More direct than you expect from ninjas but you suppose they didn't take you to be a threat, just some unlucky guy who got caught up in this mess. Time to prove them wrong.
You kick off the ground, moving faster than the lead ninja was prepared for. You manage to get a glimpse of their utter bewilderment right before they take a lariat to the face. The blow immediately slams the guy into the ground, completely knocking them out cold. The other two ninjas stop in place for a moment, shocked by what had happened, before catching themselves and moving to avenge their comrade. Their arms blur and suddenly you're facing a storm of ninja stars and kunai.
You dive to the ground, allowing the lethal projectiles to go over your body. You twist your body around just in time to avoid an axe kick from one of the ninjas. Using the momentum of your leg, you swing around spinning and deliver a devastating kick to your attacker. You hear something crack as your kick sends them flying into the bamboo forest.
Quickly getting back onto your feet, you turn to the remaining attacking ninja who stands there staring at you like you were some kind of monster. Well, they wouldn't be exactly wrong.
"DUDE! HOLY SHIT! YOU JUST BEAT UP TWO NINJAS!" exclaimed Ando, having watched you take down two of the assailants with ease. His shout, however, made the ninja remember his mission and they turned to attack Ando. Well, you weren't having any of that. You move, faster than the ninja could, and pounce on the would-be assassin. Without hesitation, you proceed to break the man's arms and legs. Several sickening cracks later and you drop your victim to the ground. Ando simply stares at you with a nauseous expression. "Holy shit dude. What the fuck."
".....Boy. Are you shinobi?" Kaido asked, having been silently watching the exchange from where he had been standing the entire time. You get the impression that he is very impressed by your ability. Not surprising considering that despite being a clone, you still retain a portion of the strength that being Ebon Lord gave you.
"Hmmph, not a ninja. Just a punk who likes to fight." You simply answer as you ready yourself for the next wave of opponents. However, the enemy leader seems thoughtful before shaking their head.
"Indeed, you are not a shinobi. A proper ninja would have made sure they had taken out all their opponents before letting their guard down."
Wait what?
"Aaaargh!" Ando! You turn to see that first ninja that you had beaten attacking Ando. Your best friend had been able to avoid a killing strike but his shoulder was bleeding badly. Ando manages to return the attack with a punch of his own, knocking out the ninja. Still, he had gotten hurt because you got -
"Guh!" Suddenly, you feel several objects pierce your back. Fuck, you got distracted. The wounds are shallow though. However, you find yourself surrounded by more enemy ninjas. How the hell did they get pass your energy sense!?
"Jacob!" Ando cried out in worry as he held his bleeding shoulder. Damn it! Even with your enhanced strength, you couldn't fight these guys and fight Ando at the same time. Suddenly, a ninja burst out from the ground behind Ando and lifts him up, keeping him in a Things were not looking good for either of you.
"It's over. An impressive showing but ultimately futile. What is your name, boy?" Kaido asks you as he slowly approaches. You stay silent, refusing to give him the pleasure of your name. "Hmm, a pity then. You would have made a fine shinobi. Men, allow Hiroyuki to witness the death of his friend for defying us."
"Jacob! No!" Ando struggles against the guy holding him but it is no use. You grit your teeth and prepare yourself to fight off half a dozen ninjas. You have little doubt that they would just kill Ando if it proves too much trouble to take you out but you couldn't simply just stand there and let them kill you.
However, just as your opponents are about to dogpile you, a shadow crosses over you.
"YEEEEAART!" Suddenly, several really large ninja stars come flying from above and slice through the shinobi surrounding you. The ninja holding onto Ando immediately pulls out a knife and makes to stab your friend. However, a spray of blood erupts from the ninja's neck before his head drops to the ground. Ando, somehow avoiding being covered in blood, turn to look at his saviour.
"ASUKA?!" Indeed, the transfer student was standing in front of Ando, guarding him against any further dangers. She wore a uniform composed of a yellow vest over a white shirt, and a green plaid skirt to match her tie. Paired with it are black thigh high socks with brown loafers, and on each arm is a guard with bandages beneath them. On her waist are straps to hold her swords, and around her neck was a short red scarf.
"I apologise for not arriving sooner, Hiroyuki-sama! I will take any punishment that you deem necessary but first I shall dispatch the enemy shinobi!" The ninja girl declares as she turns to Kaido. Ando opened his mouth to say something else but decided not to as he watched Asuka. Clapping her hands together, the kunoichi bows toward the shinobi and introduces herself, "Domo, my name is Asuka."
Nodding, Kaido returned the gesture, "Domo, Asuka-san. My name is Kaido." The way that they introduced themselves to each other seemed like some kind of strange ninja tradition. Stepping back, you decided to watch what was about to happen. With that, Asuka unsheathed the two swords behind her back and disappeared from sight as did Kaido.
"Huh?" Was all Ando could say just before being pushed back by the force of two ninjas clashing. Their speed was phenomenal. You're certain that only your Ebon self could keep up with the speed that the two ninjas were demonstrating as they crossed blades. While Ando wasn't able to keep his eyes on them, you could easily watch the battle unfold before you.
Slash. Block. Kick. Dodge. Needles. Parry. Slash. Swing. Thrust. Stab. YEART! Block. Deflect. Suddenly Kaido clones. Slash. YEART! Clone one gets cut in two, poof. Clone two takes a star to the face, poof. Clone three takes a kick to the chest. Real one strikes from behind. YEART! Asuka spin slash. Wait, it was a clone. Clone three real one. Counterattack. YEART! Asuka's left arm gets slashed. Left side weakened. Puts distance between herself and Kaido. Ninja star shower again. You thought it was Kaido but it was really the log. Holy shit, the log is a real thing?! Kaido from above. YEART! Asuka blocks with blades. Kaido spins kicks off blades and kicks again. Left side disarmed. Asuka only one sword left. Suddenly sword is glowing green. Kaido readies himself for incoming attack. Boulder behind Asuka from out of nowhere. Asuka jumps. Kick off boulder. Really fucking fast! YEART! Kaido slashed. Glowing green slash mark on body. SAYONARA! Kaido explodes for some reason. Battle over.
"Haa haa haa, I did it," Asuka mutters as she breathes heavily from the exertion of the fight. Ando stares blankly at where Kaido exploded before shaking his head and heading over to Asuka's side. Ripping his shirt, Ando starts bandaging Asuka's wounds. "H-Hiroyuki-sama!? What are you doing!?"
"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm bandaging you up." Ando snaps back before grimacing. "Ah, sorry. I'm just kind of really annoyed by what just happened. I am really confused."
"H-hai. I will explain everything, Hiroyuki-sama. The barrier will disappear soon now that its creator is dead." Asuka promises as she allows Ando to continue bandaging her, albeit with a slight blush on her face.
You leave them alone for the moment and look around at the clearing. A good deal of ninja weapons is now just lying around, next to or in bodies. You shrug your shoulders and begin looting the bodies.
"Jacob! Your back! You - ... You looting the bodies. Why are you looting the bodies?" Ando asks expressionlessly, staring at you with distaste.
"Loot. Ninja loot. Also fine." You reply, not missing a step. Oh neat, one of those sickle chain things.
"Um Anderson-san, is it? If you could, could you see if any of the bodies have any bags of shurikens on them? I'm running low myself." Asuka requests, getting a look of disbelief from Ando. You are already one step ahead of the girl, holding up a pair of pouches full of ninja stars. Just in time too since the surrounding starts to change and before long everyone is back in the park. The bodies didn't appear with you so you assume that's like some kind of feature of these ninja barriers.
"Oh thank god, we're back," Ando says in relief. Asuka gets back onto her feet and bows towards both you and Ando.
"Again, I apologise for what has happened. I had hoped that I would be able to keep our enemies away from you, Hiroyuki-sama but as you can see, I have failed. Not only that, your friend too was also caught in the crossfire. As a kunoichi, this is unforgivable. Please punish me as you see fit." The girl hangs her head down, awaiting whatever punishment she expects from Ando. The guy in question makes a grimace before letting out a sigh.
"Alright, first let's go back to my place. If all this has to do with this blade - "
"That Yoiyami Blade, Hiroyuki-sama."
"- that my grandpa gave me, then I'm sure my mother might know something. Plus you still need to explain what's going on as well, Asuka."
"O-Of course, Hiroyuki-sama. But before that, why are you calling me by my first name?" Asuka was blushing slightly as she asked this.
"Well, what's wrong with that?" Ando questions with a confused look. You, on the other hand, are somewhat more familiar with the significance of how Japanese people are meant to address each other. Apparently calling someone by their first name with suffixes is meant to be done between people who are either really good friends or intimate with each other. Considering that Ando is Japanese, you figure that he must have forgotten due to living away from Japan for so long. "Also stop calling me Hiroyuki-sama, it's weird. Just call me Ando."
"What! I can't do that! That would be improper of me, Hiroyuki-sama!"

Suddenly, a ninja burst out from the ground behind Ando and lifts him up, keeping him in a Things were not looking good for either of you.
"It's over. An impressive showing but ultimately futile. What is your name, boy?" Kaido asks you as he slowly approaches. You stay silent, refusing to give him the pleasure of your name. "Hmm, a pity then. You would have made a fine shinobi. Men, allow Hiroyuki to witness the death of his friend for defying us."
"Jacob! No!" Ando struggles against the guy holding him but it is no use. You grit your teeth and prepare yourself to fight off half a dozen ninjas. You have little doubt that they would just kill Ando if it proves too much trouble to take you out but you couldn't simply just stand there and let them kill you.
However, just as your opponents are about to dogpile you, a shadow crosses over you.
"YEEEEAART!" Suddenly, several really large ninja stars come flying from above and slice through the shinobi surrounding you. The ninja holding onto Ando immediately pulls out a knife and makes to stab your friend. However, a spray of blood erupts from the ninja's neck before his head drops to the ground. Ando, somehow avoiding being covered in blood, turn to look at his saviour.
"ASUKA?!" Indeed, the transfer student was standing in front of Ando, guarding him against any further dangers. She wore a uniform composed of a yellow vest over a white shirt, and a green plaid skirt to match her tie. Paired with it are black thigh high socks with brown loafers, and on each arm is a guard with bandages beneath them. On her waist are straps to hold her swords, and around her neck was a short red scarf.
"I apologise for not arriving sooner, Hiroyuki-sama! I will take any punishment that you deem necessary but first I shall dispatch the enemy shinobi!" The ninja girl declares as she turns to Kaido. Ando opened his mouth to say something else but decided not to as he watched Asuka. Clapping her hands together, the kunoichi bows toward the shinobi and introduces herself, "Domo, my name is Asuka."
Nodding, Kaido returned the gesture, "Domo, Asuka-san. My name is Kaido." The way that they introduced themselves to each other seemed like some kind of strange ninja tradition. Stepping back, you decided to watch what was about to happen. With that, Asuka unsheathed the two swords behind her back and disappeared from sight as did Kaido.
"Huh?" Was all Ando could say just before being pushed back by the force of two ninjas clashing. Their speed was phenomenal. You're certain that only your Ebon self could keep up with the speed that the two ninjas were demonstrating as they crossed blades. While Ando wasn't able to keep his eyes on them, you could easily watch the battle unfold before you.
Slash. Block. Kick. Dodge. Needles. Parry. Slash. Swing. Thrust. Stab. YEART! Block. Deflect. Suddenly Kaido clones. Slash. YEART! Clone one gets cut in two, poof. Clone two takes a star to the face, poof. Clone three takes a kick to the chest. Real one strikes from behind. YEART! Asuka spin slash. Wait, it was a clone. Clone three real one. Counterattack. YEART! Asuka's left arm gets slashed. Left side weakened. Puts distance between herself and Kaido. Ninja star shower again. You thought it was Kaido but it was really the log. Holy shit, the log is a real thing?! Kaido from above. YEART! Asuka blocks with blades. Kaido spins kicks off blades and kicks again. Left side disarmed. Asuka only one sword left. Suddenly sword is glowing green. Kaido readies himself for incoming attack. Boulder behind Asuka from out of nowhere. Asuka jumps. Kick off boulder. Really fucking fast! YEART! Kaido slashed. Glowing green slash mark on body. SAYONARA! Kaido explodes for some reason. Battle over.
"Haa haa haa, I did it," Asuka mutters as she breathes heavily from the exertion of the fight. Ando stares blankly at where Kaido exploded before shaking his head and heading over to Asuka's side. Ripping his shirt, Ando starts bandaging Asuka's wounds. "H-Hiroyuki-sama!? What are you doing!?"
"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm bandaging you up." Ando snaps back before grimacing. "Ah, sorry. I'm just kind of really annoyed by what just happened. I am really confused."
"H-hai. I will explain everything, Hiroyuki-sama. The barrier will disappear soon now that its creator is dead." Asuka promises as she allows Ando to continue bandaging her, albeit with a slight blush on her face.
You leave them alone for the moment and look around at the clearing. A good deal of ninja weapons is now just lying around, next to or in bodies. You shrug your shoulders and begin looting the bodies.
"Jacob! Your back! You - ... You looting the bodies. Why are you looting the bodies?" Ando asks expressionlessly, staring at you with distaste.
"Loot. Ninja loot. Also fine." You reply, not missing a step. Oh neat, one of those sickle chain things.
"Um Anderson-san, is it? If you could, could you see if any of the bodies have any bags of shurikens on them? I'm running low myself." Asuka requests, getting a look of disbelief from Ando. You are already one step ahead of the girl, holding up a pair of pouches full of ninja stars. Just in time too since the surrounding starts to change and before long everyone is back in the park. The bodies didn't appear with you so you assume that's like some kind of feature of these ninja barriers.
"Oh thank god, we're back," Ando says in relief. Asuka gets back onto her feet and bows towards both you and Ando.
"Again, I apologise for what has happened. I had hoped that I would be able to keep our enemies away from you, Hiroyuki-sama but as you can see, I have failed. Not only that, your friend too was also caught in the crossfire. As a kunoichi, this is unforgivable. Please punish me as you see fit." The girl hangs her head down, awaiting whatever punishment she expects from Ando. The guy in question makes a grimace before letting out a sigh.
"Alright, first let's go back to my place. If all this has to do with this blade - "
"That Yoiyami Blade, Hiroyuki-sama."
"- that my grandpa gave me, then I'm sure my mother might know something. Plus you still need to explain what's going on as well, Asuka."
"O-Of course, Hiroyuki-sama. But before that, why are you calling me by my first name?" Asuka was blushing slightly as she asked this.
"Well, what's wrong with that?" Ando questions with a confused look. You, on the other hand, are somewhat more familiar with the significance of how Japanese people are meant to address each other. Apparently calling someone by their first name with suffixes is meant to be done between people who are either really good friends or intimate with each other. Considering that Ando is Japanese, you figure that he must have forgotten due to living away from Japan for so long. "Also stop calling me Hiroyuki-sama, it's weird. Just call me Ando."
"What! I can't do that! That would be improper of me, Hiroyuki-sama!"
"Why the hell are you calling me that anyway!?"
"Well is it wrong for me to address the grandson of my master respectfully?"
"Well I suppose - Wait, could you repeat that?"
You start to tune out the two as they start arguing over how to address each other while you slowly get them to start walking back to Ando's home. This was going to be certainly interesting for Ebon when he gets your memories.
You can be certain of that.

Probably because I'm using elements of said manga. I'm changing thing up though so it won't be following that plot for too long or at all really. Expect ninja shenanigans ocurring in Ando's piece of the setting though.

Ando loses his everything over what is going on while the Jacob-clone just stands there as if it was Thursday. Also how the battle between Asuka and Kaido was summarised was strangely fitting; "this is nothing special, that and that happened".
I saw a duel of ninjas. But my thoughts were more of the like that it would have been over in ten seconds tops if Ebon had been involved.
Out of curiousity, has the clone no means to contact Jacob? And were we really that unlucky that no seeker took note of what was going on?

Correct, Ebon intentionally made it so that Jacob can't contact him since he doesn't want the clone connected to him in any way.
And yes, the Seekers usually run on automatic so they were far away when a Ando and Jacob got caught in the ninja barrier. Plus Jacob can't control them.

So I'm guessing that we should start investigating the ninja clans sooner rather then later? Honestly, I was going to go for them anyway, but having a friendly(?) kunoichi around to tell us the basics would probably make things easier for us.
So is our friend actually using the legendary +2 Holy Knife of MacGuffiness as an ordinary kitchen knife here as well? Cause I have to admit I almost burst out laughing when I saw it in the manga and realized why the kunoichi seemed so horrified.

That's an annoying mistake IMO.
How do we deal with our clone potentially getting killed in front of our friends or somewhere public when him calling Ebon would've been a way to avoid that?

Yes, the clone bleed red.
He does heal faster.
If he dies, the body remains for a short while before dispersing into Ebon Power which goes to Ebon thus allowing Ebon to receive memories of his clone.
That will be addressed next turn.
Well, we only had one action back then, so it helped.
Also we can in future situations have the clone fake being us as we go out as Ebon and do the whole Clark Kent(robot) + Superman (or the other way around) thing so no one thinks we're Ebon because we're right there in person.
But if it wasn't for plo... I mean Ninja Girl here we would've lost our friend and our clone... and lost our cover probably to the ninjas at least. Let alone all the questions about it... so, yeah we apparently might need to stick with our friends because our clone isn't quite strong enough.
*edit* and apparently we'll be able to make changes/make our clone more useful. Still we should take 'be with friends/family' at least for the next turn anyway considering the rather big change that just happened.
