Behind the Serpent Throne (CK2)

Do you have a quote? Searching for 'academy' gets me nothing.

On the other hand, the Day of the Ghosts option might give us some insight into the Emperor's death. Or it might not, it's really hard to tell.
This is a shortened, New Year's Celebration turn. We're not getting the usual actions.

Yes, I understand. What I was wondering about is whether the Academy option is really in some way connected to the Emperor's death, as you were saying.
As Kiralo might guess, following the whole trail is difficult and probably not profitable in at least a few senses. And no possible result would actually be viewed as unbiased facts. In this court?

He can't really know more because you haven't been following up the Magical end of actions so far.
The Magical end of actions probably refers to the Academy.

Title: The Silver-Lined Display
Dice Rolled: Martial, Stewardship
Chance of Success: 60%
Time: 1 Turn
Text: Every new years, the army and those who have physical prowess of any kind show off in a grand display that lasts the entire day. Manuevers, attacks, military parades, feats of strength. Kiralo could help to try to oversee this, and perhaps even show off his own prowess, if the time seems right. Either way, the success of this ritual and display, and the loyalty and power it evinces, is very vital. Even more than that, it might be a chance to get to understand the capabilities and limits of the local army through seeing just what the best they have to offer is.

Quoted for those ignoring it.

I wanna jump in the snake pit.
ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE!

[X] Plan SNAKES!
[][] The Silver-Lined Display
[]Title: The Display of Gold
-[] A play about the poetry duel.
[]Alms to The Thousands
[][]What To Give to the Boy Who Has Everything?
-[] Dedicate the play to him and a private presentation of it.
[]The Presentation of Offices
[][] In The Pit of Rebirth

Silver to impress the troops and because the action description says it is vital, Gold for the prestige, Alms for tradition, ghosts to learn of doom, presentation because duh, Pit for god given visions.

I mean, there is a good chance we might die this week according to The Laurent. So it might be a good idea to get forewarning.

Edit: Also, I suspect the spirit we attracted in the house of the 10 Judges was meant to warn us of an upcoming assassination. It would explain the pain it caused us and that we met it in a place relate to death.

Yeah, guess we're really getting down into the Game of Thrones 'You Win or You Die' flavor now.

So the basics first, @The Laurent. All from Kiralo's perspective of course.

What does the Emperor need/want?
What does the court think the Emperor needs/wants?
What is the Emperor lacking in?
What would be the most fitting of gifts?

Edit: And how's the scene in making art, specifically poems, in homage to the glory of the current Emperor?

I want to know how much Kiralo writing a poem would stand out. There's probably quite a number, but from past descriptions, Kuojah-sponsored poetry is incredibly stilted and formal. I don't think anyone thinks they're fun (probably 'poetry' has become synonymous with 'stuffed up'). So could Kiralo infusing some of his him-ness be a good idea? Maybe a lengthy poem that's just as much story as song, like a mini-epic?

Anyway, I'm thinking for a gift, if the Emperor has all the money in the world, then we need to give something wholly unique to us. Only we, or someone with our very particular set of skills could give. Like Horse Riding lessons! I kid, sorta
Well.

Friends, a childhood? Education that doesn't involve Kuojah running his life.

Well, hrm. There will likely be a lot of clothes. Rich clothes. And toys. And probably a few slaves, servants with their contracts handed over, that sort of thing. Someone, or perhaps a dozen someones, will get him a fool or a juggler or an amusingly mentally handicapped (they'd use other phrases) man to entertain him by being moderately insane. Someone will get him food, or rare children's toys (which he might actually like). Books, quite a few books, no doubt.

Well, what does he lack most? Power, and a childhood.

And what would be fitting? Well, thing is, if Kiralo was in the Southlands, it'd definitely be a horse, or riding lessons. He's a growing young boy and he should be learning to be a man. Again, a book could work...if you knew what the Emperor liked. Animal, too, that's traditional enough: but again, what does the Emperor like? Dogs? Cats? Snakes? Pigs? I mean, he's the friggin Emperor, if he wants to import a lion or something, given enough time, he could have a pet lion.

It wouldn't be pink, tho.

To be fair, I didn't say 'you might die this week.' I don't think? I was simply implying that there's a damn good chance that you'll not get a chance for another New Years Turn.

IE: depending on what happens, there's, like I said, a good chance you won't be alive in a year.

...the list of things that might kill you is rather long, starting with the Potential Civil War and going to [Redacted] and also [Redacted].

You know guys, I calculated for our chances for Getting The Whole Clan Together? (1 - 0.53^3), and if we put 3 Dice into it we'll only have a 14.89% chance for failure, or an 85.11% chance for success. Acceptable risk and that's huge if you realize we're getting the whole Family pack for less Dice than we would without it. It's basically a promo. Buy 3, Get 1 Free!

So if we divert the dice we allocated to our individual family choices (and one other for those with only two family choices, like me), we actually have a pretty good chance of getting our sisters, niece, their families, and our... father into one big happy gathering. That's basically three or four normal turn court actions we'd be completing in New Year's. And I'd imagine we'd be gaining some sort of reputation or image among Kiralo's family and for taking hold of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

So, I'm folding A Sister Visited, Family Affairs, and Never See The Bottom of the Bottle (since that isn't too popular) into Getting The Whole Clan Together?. What do you think?

Though with Bakkasama's point, I see that The Silver-Lined Display should be taken. I'm switching Honor Thy Mother for it.

I mean, there is a good chance we might die this week according to The Laurent. So it might be a good idea to get forewarning.
I thought The Laurent meant another New Year's Turn? I mean, forewarning would be good, but I think we have a year or several months to do so. Now, we increase our influence!

See, I thought he meant the was a very good chance we wouldn't live to see turn B and I was all "Holy shit, are these guys murder happy"

This means I will have to rethink my plan. Ghosts has become a lot less appealing. I am not much for family options but if we do end up choosing them... @Zeitgeist Blue three dice might give us a good chance of success but remember that, even if we succeed, results close to the DC mean that there will be some bad with the good and such a low DC gives a low margin of error.

True enough. The description did say this would be dangerous territory, and I doubt people would be open to risk that. Oh well. Anyway, updating my plan. It now includes...

- The Silver-Lined Display
- The Display of Gold
- The Green Display
- A Sister Visited
- Family Affairs
- What To Give to the Boy Who Has Everything?
- The poem
- 2 Dice
- Gifts Among Friends
- The Presentation of Offices

The Emperor likes our style of poetry right? Or is it because we're much friendlier than his normal tutor?

Also, let's complete the color set!

Ok, maybe I did go too strong into snakepit. I would like something that investigates magic users, though

You mean like The Green Display? Well, I could switch Alms to The Thousands since that isn't so urgent nor important.

You know what? I'm switching it. We need to do Academy Days anyway, and this gives us an in.

@The Laurent when choosing a gift for the Emperor, should we assume that Kiralo spent time preparing it rather than waiting for the last week of the year? Because some would need some time to prepare.

Example: IIRC there was a book that spoke of our poetry duel? I mean, even if there were one, it would have to be adapted to Csirstian (or writen and adapted if it doesn't exist), plus it would be nice if it also offered a description of the court of the southlands besides giving the context of the duel. A poetry duel is something silly enough to be of the tastes of a boy, the different meter would be something new, the creative ways they went against each other something that children that age like, plus it is a way to broaden horizons and speak to him of new places and spark more interest in poetry on him. But that doesn't sound like something that can be done in a week.

Not quite. I mean, not that I remember. There was an option of having written a book of poetry...but it wasn't chosen.

I mean, you could *write* down what you remembered of it, though. That's for sure.

Well, it seems like there is no book about it. That said...

@veekie and @Zeitgeist Blue how about an adaptation of the poetry duel, including its backstory as a gift? Something silly about those silly Southlanders? I mean, it is said it went from ridiculous to amazing to ridiculous. He might like it.

Play form, or as some sort of poem about poetry?

You could always try to combine a Gold Display with a gift. LIke, dedicating the play (for instance) to the Emperor or whatnot, or putting on a private performance of it on top of the main one.

If it is the play then succeeding the Golden display should give a bonus to the gift dice, right?

Thanks, but I'm alright with my idea.

Though you could do a private performance as The Laurent said.

Right, I took away A day of Ghosts? In Exchange of a gift to the emperor.

So @The Laurent, just to make sure, since we did not choose the option for a book of poetry then a project that extensive isn't available to gift. So what does that say as to the thoroughness and scope of the poem as a gift?

A poem, even a lengthier one than those usually seen here, should take less effort than a full book. Though I'd like think Kiralo wouldn't cram his gift during the New Year's festivities. There must've been weeks worth of lead-up to New Year's, and that'd include Kiralo writing, editing, and proof-reading the poem.

Uh, we didn't write a book of poetry. We didn't choose that option.
