[X] Plan Spirit Detective

Can't decide on if I like this or not spending the points on attributes at the moment, but as the version without spending attributes has no chance I'll just stick to this option.

While true, I want the shirshu more than I want to save points. Sorry! "Plan Ambitions, Bending, and Spirit Fuckery" is the one I'd be voting for otherwise, but it's only got a single vote.

spirit detective has a shirshu so youre good in that department at least
also if this swamp is actually the foggy swamp then yeah we could possibly see toph since she was there since before Aang died

Chances are very high that it isn't.

Foggy Swamp is waaaaaaay to the southwest of the Si Wong Desert, as shown here.

Foggy Swamp is 34, very close to the coast, and we're somewhere around 30 and 49.

More than one with how mystical the Avatar world is. Don't just assume that this is the Foggy Swamp without any real evidence.

Edit: And Bung said nothing about it being a swamp
"A jungle," he responds. "A huge, big jungle, with vines, and plants, and water. But there's one more thing about it, kid."

Or, its the Spirit World. The Library, after sinking into the ground, wound up in a Jungle, so apparently there's a Jungle in the spirit world in this location. And he found his way there through a hole in the ground, it'd be wierd for a hole in the ground to cover much lateral distance.

Breathe, move, breathe, move. Concurrent breathes and jerks of the body. A form of test for your growing endurance. The sand pauses, then jumps, pauses, then jumps. The force it moves with is greater than normal. Your dad watches every movement. He has no reason to move in and correct you, so he remains silent and watches contently.

There is little to no flaw in your movements anymore. Each one can be considered the standard for a sandbender, although they still leave much to be desired. More speed, more fluidity, more power. You will make strides in the future, but for now, you are happy that you have grown to reach the average.

You repeat the first kata ever taught to you. Your hand follows your other hand, arms moving more than the forearms this time. As they do, sand flies out in a large stream that soon turns into a dissipating cloud. You repeat this in every four directions, then deliver drag-kicks that deliver long jets of concentrated and powerful sand to the nothingness of the desert.

You look at your father, breathing heavily, a droplet of sweat sliding across your forehead.

"Good. This is acceptable," he says. Dad smiles at you, showing his teeth slightly. You mimic the gesture. You put your hands together and make a bow to thank him, and he does the same.

+1 Dexterity.
+4 Earthbending.
+4 to interactions with Makiw.
+Earthbending Level-Up.

The energy moves up the base of your spine. You harness it and bend the balls of sand in your hands with closed eyes. Sand around you rises and storms, as you extend your chi outward with minimal effort. You are in control of your surroundings until you hear the snap of a door being closed and you gasp, disconcerted.

You lose concentration and everything falls down. You look to your right and see your mom with two clay cups in her hands. She approaches you and sits down opposite of you, handing you one cup. You take it and look inside. Tea with sugar and mint leaves.

You sip. It's cold, but not bad. The sugar and mint have a weird symbiosis and leave behind a sweet but sharp taste behind.

Your mom takes a sip as well, then looks at you. "I see you're making progress with your meditation."

"It's amazing," you say decisively, nodding at her words. "It improves my bending."

"It improves your flow of chi," she corrects, then explains, "And an improved flow improves bending. With time, you'll learn other things."

You grit your teeth, but don't show it. You think about who you are. About your role, relative to this world. You're the Avatar. She deserves to know, after all, she's your mother! You can't just not tell her. Sooner, or later, you will reveal the truth. You gather the courage and speak.

"Hey, mom," you say, to get her attention in such a way as to make this look like a serious topic you're about to touch.

"Yes?" she asks.

But your courage fails. "Thanks... for the tea, and for the lessons."

"Anything for you, Tié. You're my son, and Siph isn't interested in these kinds of things."

You sip your tea, while your conscience drives a dagger into your gut.

+2 Spirituality.
+1 Intelligence.
+1 Wisdom.
+Meditation bonus.

After your daily training routine, you take it to the desert. There is nothing but death and sand out there, true, but there's the odd chance you'll meet a passenger, traveller, or fellow nomad. Your dad told you that people from the southern Earth Kingdom have to cross the desert if they want to get to Ba Sing Se, and for whatever reason, everyone wants to get to Ba Sing Se.

You don't really get it. Who would want some dumb city when you have this desert with death and sand? This desert is mighty fine!

Besides, even in a place of death like this, there is life. Later today, you're meeting with Bung and Siph to go to that spot he talked about. You are thirsty to sate your eyes. To sate your eyes with the sight of a splendorous jungle and streams of clean water. Just the sight would be enough to satisfy you.

You look around, surrounded by kilometers of nothing but sand. You sigh in disappointment and move forward.

You trip over something and land face-first into sand. You dig your head out of it and puff out the dark-yellow sand out of your mouth, then brush your tongue with your hand to remove the remnants of the saliva-mud from it. You look at what you tripped over, sensing a tinge of fur with your foot.

"Oh, crap," you exclaim, then quickly get up and step back.

The shirshu looks at you and releases a pained moan. You...

You sense no immediate hostility from the creature. In addition, you notice that its leg appears broken. The moan wasn't an aggressive hiss, but a call for help. This creature is a newborn; a child, a newcomer to this world. And it's asking you to make it so that its visit is not short-term.

"It's alright," you move closer, then put your hand over its head, kneeling next to the shirshu. "Everything's alright now," you soothe. The effects of your meditation are still in place and you are empowered. You can use this to your advantage. You stand up, then begin sandbending.

You create a floating isle of solid sand. The shirshu is on top of it. The isle is as thick and strong as sandstone, so it will not be destroyed that easily. This is less risky than carrying the shirshu with your own hands, as it could be startled and attack you at any moment. Not that getting it on top of an isle of sand won't scare it, but at least it won't endanger you this way.

You move it back to the village, much to the awe of the sandbender elders who see you arrive with a small island of sand floating above you and you flailing your arms around wildly. You bring the creature to them and ask them to heal it.

"These creatures are dangerous, child."

"It's tame! I swear! It didn't attack me!" you plead, trying to find a way to convince him. The rest of the elders left and laughed as soon as you even proposed such an 'insane' idea. Only this old man remained to tell you why you shouldn't heal it and just leave it to die. But you can't.

"You found it in the wild. I will have no hand in endangering our people," the elder answers, then points away and turns his back on you. "You, do as you wish. But do not be surprised when we banish you along with your pet when it attacks someone."

Furious, you pick up the shirshu and cradle it in your arms, then carry it home. You place the shirshu in your backyard and it keeps releasing these pained moans every once in a while. Just a moment, little friend! You'll just heal it yourself if that's the case...

How do you heal stuff, again?

DC: 17
Roll: 1d20=8

You have no idea, honestly. You don't recall any specific knowledge. You decide to call your mom for help. She knows how to heal. You go indoors and look for her, then drag her outside by the hand, telling her you need her to help you.

"What? What?" she asks, half-laughing. "What's so..." She sees the creature and her eyes widen in shock. Instinctively, she looks at you, asking what this is supposed to be. You explain the situation and your mom considers it. She looks at you...

"Agh, fine. Give me some space!"

You move back and watch as your mom examines the shirshu's leg. She goes back inside for some required items, then returns and immobilizes the shirshu's leg with carefully-placed cloth and bandages. She stands up and looks at you sternly, "It'll take some time for it to heal. Now, Tié. Tell me."

She pauses. You look Sida in the eyes.

"Do you plan to keep him?"

You...

Nod.

She sighs. "Alright. Give him a name, then."

"How do you know it's a he?"

"Females have a different fur color, even as children," she explains. Huh, good to know, you suppose. You look at the shirshu, thinking. You need to name him. It's a boy. Let's see...

[] Name him "Chi."
[] Name him "Lotus."

You move your hands in concert with Siph's. The sand moves under the sand-slider, dragging you across the desert with the decent speed of forty kilometers per hour. "Five degrees left," Bung says, looking at the compass. You nod and change the direction of sand ever-so-slightly to point the slider left.

"In a minute, we'll be there," Bung says. He closes the compass, puts it in his back-pocket and turns to you two. "It's an amazing place."

"I believe you," you answer, "I'm not certain if the spirits can be reasoned with, however. We'll see."

"I suppose," he answers with conviction and nods. "I just want to do my part. I discovered this place, so I want to see if it's habitable, you know? If we can find a common ground with the spirits down there, there's a chance your people can move there and thrive." Bung turns around again and looks forward. In several seconds, he interrupts your movements, "Stop. We're here!"

Your movements halt. Bung points forward. Roughly fifty meters in front of you, there is a large, black hole in the ground. It's hard to tell what its depth or diameter is from this far away, so you don't want to judge. Bung turns to you and asks, "Did you bring the ropes?"

"Yup," you answer, then point to the back. Bung smiles at that.

"Good," he says. Bung walks to the back of the sand-slider, collects the linen ropes and looks at you two. "Move us a little closer. We'll tie the ropes to the sand-slider, immobilize it under some sand, then slide down on them. The hole is around ten meters deep, so a fall will hurt."

Three exploring nomad children in the desert. What could possibly go wrong?

The sand-slider inches forward. You can see the hole more clearly now. Bung's measurements appear to be accurate. Down the hole, you see something uncanny. A color that is so foreign and so alien, that to you, seeing it might as well be a miracle.

You see green.

Green plants, green leaves, green grass.

You also see blue.

Blue water, blue flowers, blue... frogs?

Interesting.

As Bung finishes tying the ropes, he looks at you. "On second thought, one of us should stay up here in case the sand-slider begins to fall. You can't stay, since you're the only one who's good at talking with spirits here."

You never really explicitly said you're good at talking with spirits. You only said communicating with them is definitely possible and that you may be capable of doing it, or you may not. You feel like he's putting more weight and pressure on you than you asked for, but not on purpose.

Anyway...

[] Siph will stay.
[] Bung will stay.

Honestly, I don't think this update was as good, but that may be a personal opinion. I just couldn't put as much effort as I normally did because yesterday I went drinking with my friends so I was kind of... tired all day today and I guess this carried over to the update.

Still, I hope that doesn't ruin it and I hope that you still enjoy it. Also, first natural 20 of the Quest, rejoice!

@Birdsie - Do we know Korra's name, IC? Thinking something like Korran or Arrok for the name, though doesn't work so much if we don't know her name. :p

So, For goals I'm thinking Meditation and Communicating with a Spirit.

Definitely want to spend 5cp on meeting this stronger spirit, and save the rest. Or maybe use some to learn how to make tea.

Hopefully this will present an opportunity to complete both goals. Not sure I trust Bung with our 'lifeline' but I trust him knowing about whatever we get from a spirit and potential knowledge of us being the Avatar even less.
