Character Creation 1

Far away, in the lands of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air, there is a keeper and protector of balance and peace. They call him - they call you - the Avatar. A master of all Four Elements, destined to act as a conduit between spirits and mortals, as well as to protect peace in the world. The Avatar must seek knowledge of Bending, but also of Wisdom. For what physical characteristics matter when a spiritual being is without spirituality?

That is your duty. To protect the balance. To protect the peace. To seed law and prosperity where there is none.

And in these faraway lands, a mother gives birth to a child. That child is you...

Doing Earth kingdom or the Fire Nation during the war would be pretty interesting.

A quick google search gives this as the chinese word for iron.

[X] [Gender] Male.

Just picking male because I'm male.

[X] [Time] Post-War: You will replace Korra; born at roughly the same time as her. Out of the 3 options, I'd like to be the Avatar after Aang, since that state of the world interests me the most. [X] [Nation] Earth. I'd prefer to change things up and be an Earth Avatar[/Time]

Sooo how can I imagine that option, because there are certainly ways to interpret it, given how long the Great war was and how long Aang was involved in it

1. the Basic option (future), Aang never was the Avatar, instead our Character was, which makes us an Airbending Avatar and we made the same decisions Aang did, leading to us being sealed into ice, leading us to the canon timeline
2. the Basic option (past), Aang never was the Avatar, instead our Character was, we didn't run away and were trained when the Fire Nation attacked the Air Nomads, thus are now an Avatar 100 years before canon
3. the Advanced option; Aang was the Avatar, but never run away, instead got killed and now we are the next Avatar, as a Waterbender 14-20 years after the start of the Great War
4. Ironman mode, Aang was the Avatar, but never run away, instead got killed, as did the Waterbending Avatar after him and now we are the next Avatar, an Earthbender and are 20-60 years after the start of the War, but in a world without Airbenders, which is also our most difficult element to master

No option for post-Korra? Awwww...

[X] [Time] Before Aang [X] [Nation] Earth Let's firm up our fellow Earthbenders and derail canon before it even begins to hatch![/Time]

Ehm, you aren't deciding the Element here, just the country you are born in,

The Elements go in the cycle, so if we are to replace Korra as the Avatar born after Aang, we will be a Waterbender simple born within the Earth Kingdom, most likely the swamp lands then

I'd like Earth or Air not Fire to begin with, though we're the avatar so we get everything anyway eventually. :p Though I think I'd enjoy us ending up being known for a specific subtype of bending. Sandbending! I wonder if we'd be able to do Earth/Rocks into Sand?

True, but that's not as much of an issue if we replace Korra, because very likely we'll have the White Lotus to learn most of the bending styles from (Fire and Earth if we're Water, Water and Fire if Earth). And replacing Roku for similar reasons since the nations aren't at war.

Hey @Birdsie, are we locked into the Fire, Air, Water cycle of Avatar birth nations with the three periods? By which I mean, if for example becoming the Avatar after Aang wins, will we be someone from the Water Tribe born in whatever location wins?

It's not birth nations, but birth element that the Avatar is locked in,

Technically the Avatar can be born everywhere, as long as there is a parent with the corresponding element,
It's just that before the End of the Great War and the founding of the Republic Benders, between practicality and social standing had little reason to travel beyond their nations of birth

Works for me. I'm much more interested in exploring the setting and character interactions beyond just the bending, and this time period has the most interesting setting and characters imo.

I'd like confirmation on us not being locked into the Avatar element cycle, though.

I'd like confirmation on us not being locked into the Avatar element cycle, though.

That is one of the most fundamental & important rules of the whole setting

It literally shaped the world politics since the dawn of time and was the whole reason the Fire Nation started the war with the extermination of the Air Benders

We will be locked into the elemental cycle, else you literally cannot justify why the earth Kingdom hasn't conquered everybody else, nor why the Fire Nation went ahead and started the war by killing the Air nomads, instead of trying

I'm not even sure why people are even bothering to argue about it, it's like the only reason why the avatar is the avatar and not some glorified war machine in the name of the nation that currently holds him
