Avatar: The Last Dicebender (A:TLA/A:LOK Quest)

I want our reveal to be something grand. Like saving a lot of people or revealing ourselves to the Vilian who starts saying that the Avatar has abandoned the world; only for us the sweep in and announce ourself.

Out of curiosity for general mechanics, and since we have the opportunity to learn bloodbending and the opportunity to fight bloodbenders, do waterbenders have a higher DC to successfully bloodbend and/or get to make an opposing roll? That would maybe fit thematically, since Aang, Katara, and Amon all resist bloodbending at some point.

And regarding the secrecy of the Avatar, I do like the idea, but don't think it will last forever. I suppose I agree that it should be revealed at an appropriate time.

[x] Plan Kyoshi can do it, Tié can too!
- [x] (Bending Prodigy) Why limit yourself? Organize a sandbender militia, which you will be the leader of. (Ambition. +7,500 XP, +7 Chi Points.)
- [x] Disagree, but follow them to help the creatures get away.
- [x] Dad.
- [x] Bending.
- [x] Physical exercise.

Ah, but that change will be resting on strength of arm and reputation of previous Avatars, rather than on the good elements of the change itself.
The good elements of a change alone aren't always enough for said idea to gain traction. Sometimes it needs the support of someone influential to do so, and I'm completely fine with using the reputation of previous Avatars to do so if Tie's isn't enough yet.

Which you know is half the deal of the Avatar
That he is the ultimate Bender and strong enough to take on Armies on his own
Don't forget that the Avatar is an Diplomat that back up his arguements with being the guy with the biggest Stick, which is half the reason why the kingdoms accept the Avatars role as well as they do

I haven't confirmed the edits yet.
Alright, with the new stats, its' 37.375 years to mastery of all 4 Elements (note: This has been excluding the sub-bendings) on our own, 1 training session per turn.
Also, under the current system, Earthbending Culture is a tad negligible. It turns a 6 into a 5.

Also also, does being The Avatar not give us any bonuses to learning? The way you described it earlier, sounds like everyone is working under this system, so without any Avatar bonus, we learn just as "slowly" as any other Prodigy.
If we don't get a bonus by default, could we uncover something as we work on our Spirituality, and become more intune with our past lives? Connecting to them to allow easier relearning of skills we technically already know?

I'm pretty sure Waterbenders to get to make a resist roll, especially since Katara states that she is able to turn the tables on whats-her-face by saying that she's a stronger bender.

Multiplication by eight instead of ten is advantage enough. Oh, and yes, you can meditate and ask previous Avatars for advice, cool stories and life lessons; but they can't teach you nbending. If they could, Aang would be capable of bending volcanoes and look for teachers, while Korra wouldn't have to travel the world with the White Lotus goons to learn.

Yup, they do.

@Birdsie
I'm guessing those changes are in part incentive to find teachers instead of training alone?

Yup, they do.
Oh, so everyone else multiplies by 10? Alright. Though... that still aint much of an advantage. Cutting learning time by 1/5 only.

Korra was a spiritual brick wall, she had next to no connection to his past selves until Aang decided to magically give her advanced knowledge of Energy Bending (Proof that knowledge of bending styles CAN be passed on by past selves), and even Aang had trouble connecting with his past selves for a few reasons. He could chat them up, but that was about it for the majority of the series. What I'm thinking, is something even deeper. Something half way to the Avatar State, where we immerse ourselves in them. We are a Spiritual Prodigy AND the Son of a Witch. It feels like we should be able to accomplish spiritual stuff far in excess of what they ever did. And since it's impressed many times throughout the various series that the previous incarnations, while generally treated as separate people, are all still the same person. If we could but remember the skills we have forgotten, reforge the links that have been lost, it seems like we should be able to learn faster than someone without an ounce of spirituality like Korra.

Trust me when I tell you that you can do pretty insane stuff thanks to the MC's perks (had you tried Spiritual training, you'd have found out,) but I want to avoid bending from past incarnations for several reasons. The first is that it makes shit too easy and lets you level up bending for pretty much free, the second is that Spirits in Avatar can't bend and I personally think that the whole "Aang teaching Korra about Energybending" thing was utter bullshit for the same reason, and the third is that taking advice from past Avatars regarding bending can give you some neat training points already and I wouldn't like to take it to another level by having them as full-blown mentors for the MC or have the MC recall ancient history.

Maybe I missed where it was said, but how do future perks work? Do we receive a perk vote after level up or are perks rewards for great rolls and playing?

What I was thinking wouldn't be leveling up for free. It'd be more like giving us 3 sessions per session, rather than the current 2. It is not free, we have to put in the work all the same, it's just a little easier. Also expected it to be a pretty difficult feat of spirituality.

Spirits can't normally bend but Avatar spirits are... unique, to put it simply. Avatar Roku did some bending in TLA, for example. I think the reason that Avatar Spirits can bend is, they aren't dead. Not really. They are alive and well, just in a new body that can rarely remember (but can somewhat, as indicated by the Toy Test). With Raava's help, the mortal mind can transcend and remember who they used to be, allowing them to interact with themselves, or even truely merge ala The Avatar State. So when a Avatar Spirit does something, they aren't JUST a Spirit, they are acting through The Avatar, and perhaps even through Raava and the connections SHE has made with the wider world (those various statues have to be able to light up somehow). Aang was able to teach Korra through this connection, because bending the energy in a person apparently is how Energy Bending is taught, since that's how he learned it from the Lion Turtle (and how Lion Turtles in general taught the people of the world Bending).

So yeah, I don't expect them to be mentors, or knowing Ancient History, but rather calling upon spiritual muscle memory. Tie has DONE all this before, this is not actually new, he just has to remember. Something to supplement having teachers and practice and what not, not replace it. Course, I don't know what "neat training points" you are thinking of, so those might already fill the purpose I'm thinking of, just under different narrative packaging. I guess I'll just have ot wait and see what you already got planned.

Son of the Chief - 2
"Alright," you agree to go. Shuluo gives you an excited look, which deflates as soon as you cross your arms and sternly look at him. "But I'm not hunting."

His joy turns into a worried expression. "W-what do you mean, you're not hunting?" He looks around frantically, as if he was about to be assassinated by some unseen, demonic force. You quirk an eyebrow and look left and right, but see no one who would do such a thing.

Your eyes once again focus on him. "I'll come only to keep an eye on all of you."

Shuluo nods, very slowly. You sense fear oozing off of him. Shuluo leads you through the village streets, until you come near the gate, or rather, the empty space in the sandstone wall through which one can leave. There's a dozen or so boys there, waiting.

"Look!" Shoh, the ringleader says. "Shuluo was right. Tié is coming."

Shoh looked at Shuluo, then reached into his pocket. He starts looking for something, but stopped when you said, "Yeah, but I'm not hunting."

As if a stone hit into a fence and broke it in half, Shoh's glare hardens with a degree of suspicion. He takes his hand out of his pocket and looks at you, smiling in self-confidence. "Of course you're not. You're a coward that can't even kill dumb lizards." He then looks at Shuluo. "As for you, don't make bets you can't win."

"Let's go, guys," Shoh orders, then walks past the boys. The group of boys release a sequence of quiet snickers and follow their alpha male.

You feel warmth in your chest, different from the scorching sand. You clench your fists in wrath, but you keep it on the inside and try to calm down. You can practically feel your mother whispering from behind your shoulder that violence doesn't solve problems, and your father whispering from the other shoulder that he's not even worth it. You manage to control yourself. His face gets to live another day without turning dark purple.

Following behind the group, you watch out for any dangers that might assault you. An arduous walk through the desert that takes eight minutes to get to the place where the gilacorns live. Even from far away, you can see the lizards hiding in the shadows of tall cacti plants, away from the sun.

Shoh smiles and cracks his knuckles, turning to the rest of the boys. "Watch how it's done."

He steps forward, then raises his hands to level with his face, with his arms slightly bent. He makes delicate movements with his hands as if he was forming an invisible ball from clay. The sand around several lizard-creatures collects into a fine ball, trapping them inside with a constant application of pressure. The ball is roughly a meter in diameter; an impressive feat for Shoh, even if he's three years older than you.

You shield your gaze. No need to watch it.

Indeed, it is too late. You hear a sudden growl, followed by a whipping sound. You look back at Shoh, who is suddenly struck by a pink object that unveiled from the ball of sand. As soon as he is hit, he drops to the floor with a very loud grunt of pain.

The ball of sand drops with him, as he stops bending. From among the gilacorns, one creature stands out, as it is different. It must have been buried under the sand.

Your skin pales and your blood becomes cold in fear. You stare the newborn shirshu in the eyes.

A shirshu is a species of creatures native to the southern Earth Kingdom. Although rarely seen in the desert they adapted somewhat. They have excellent smell, but no eyesight. In addition, their tongues are coated in a substance that causes paralysis.

You look down at Shoh, who convulses on the ground.

1-10 = Fight
11-20 = Flight

You gulp and snap into position. You told yourself you'd be here to keep watch over the rest of these idiots, so you step through the boys who are retreating, commanding them: "Run to get help!"

The creature hisses, but keeps itself in control. It takes one step back, then jumps back in your direction hastily. You step to the side and react with a violent sweep of your two hands. As you do this, sand follows the movement. A gust of sand moving at roughly thirty kilometers per hour. The shirshu is blown away several meters and it releases a moan of wild pain.

The creature soon arises, hisses at you once again, and runs off with all due speed, but before it can run away, it is hit by cold steel. A thrown dagger digs itself into the shirshu's neck.

You look at the thrower, only to see one of the men from the village. As the creature struggles to escape, he bends sand and throws it in his direction with a strong sweep of it. As it flies near him, he places his foot on its belly, takes another dagger, and quickly decapitates it to keep it from using its tongue.

It releases a last, pained moan a split-second before its death.

You witness the whole thing, jaw dropped. The sand in the place the creature died is now bloodied. You contain yourself as the sandbender looks at you and comments, "Good job with the bending, child. Is anyone paralyzed?"

You don't even speak. You just point to Shoh without turning, your eyes empty and blank.

"Sis, why do dad and mom berate you all the time?" You shuffle your feet in the sand, sitting at the porch of your quote-on-quote backyard with Siph next to you.

Her eyebrows jump and looks away from you. A gesture that shows pain. "I just..." Her eyes get dull and melancholic.

You don't cut in, as you have nothing to say. You let her think it through and find the answer.

She sighs and looks at you, with the same eyes, "I just... I make a lot of mistakes."

"Why do you make mistakes?" You follow up.

She quirks an eyebrow suspiciously, then glares. "I know what you're trying to do." She shakes her head. You feel something grip your chest from the inside, like anxiety. She's accusing you of something, and you don't even know what it is. Suddenly, her glare turns into a brilliant smile with closed eyes as Siph embraces you in a hug. "Help me fix my mistakes!"

"O-Oh, yeah. That's... exactly... what... I was trying... to do..." You smile sheepishly, glad that she can't see your face while hugging you and equally happy that she didn't sense anything off in the way you spoke your last sentence. Thanks be to emotional white noise. "Just, y'know... hehe... trying to help you get to the bottom of the barrel here."

She lets go. "I'm just like that, Tié. I like to take risks."

"Having a boyfriend is risky?" you ask. Not that you care personally, girls are yucky.

She ponders the question. "In this economy?" She raises her finger and boops you on the nose, "Yes!"

You frown, not at the answer, but at the unwarranted booping. Your sister has no respect for your delicate nose. With a sigh, you change the topic. "You know, I've been thinking about leaving Si Wong and going to Republic City. Training to become a metalbender and a police officer."

"You'd really leave the tribe?"

You feel something grip your chest, again. Although you haven't gotten attached to many people here, you'd definitely miss your family and the few colleagues and buddies you've made. You nod to her, almost grimly, "Yeah. I don't think there's enough for me out here."

"At least write letters or something," she mutters sadly.

"Of course!" You smile, looking at her.

"And promise to visit me sometime," she pouts.

Make a promise that you, possibly, can't keep?

[] "Anything for you, sister."
[] "If there's time, sure." (Lie, +1 to being an asshole.)

She stands up, then looks at you. "Alright, I've got to go. I was supposed to go to the oasis with the girls to get some fresh water at noon, and..." She looks up, covering her eyes with her hand. "It's about noon." She looks back at you and waves. "See you later."

"See you!"

+4 to interactions with Siph.

You train in the backyard after Siph left.

You bend sand around yourself. As an exercise to train your focus, you have two, separate rings of sand - one wider but thinner - floating around you diagonally and slowly tilting as they move. Your hand movements are quick, but fluid, and at the same time, you try to match them with your breathing. You have been doing this nonstop for the last two minutes.

You decide to try something else and collect the rings of sand into balls, making them float around you. Every five seconds, a ball goes past your face.

They spin around.

And again.

And again.

And then, you notice something. They are getting more brown with each turn. You spin around and look behind you, only to notice something that makes you drop all of the sand at once.

You have been bending water out of a jug behind you and mixing it with the sand to create mud. You look around and sigh in relief once you confirm that no one saw you. This is the second time you've bent a different element than earth-slash-sand. First, it was a small sparkle of fire. Now, it was water from a jug.

You grit your teeth.

Should you tell anyone?

Note on Waterbending TP you got: You don't get the prodigy bonus, because those points, in and of themselves, I consider a bonus you got by accidentally realizing: "Hey, shit! Moving my arms like this makes water move too!"

Another note: Feel free to propose write-in options to me. If I approve them, you can vote for them.

Definitely this. Come hell or high water, we will visit. The only thing we'll allow to force us to break our word, is Sister suddenly becomes unvisitable, AKA Dead, and I think she'd forgive us in that case.

As for the rest... I'm conflicted. I already love our sister, and I think it'd be neat to tell her a secret, but our Parents are also super cool intellectual times so telling them might also turn out good.

Ooo, nice. You got any prices and what not set up for spending CP? You gave some examples of what it can be spent on, but no prices to guage how much 1 CP is worth.
