Attempting To Fulfil Your Contract: A Noveria Planquest [Mass Effect]

I think we should finish up getting everyone's approval up to at least zero so as not to have issues going forward, which is what my plan is focused towards.

Suppose it's better to check one time to many instead of one time to few.

But what about the favor economie? Unless I misread this doesn't take us in the black for all.
A couple of corps on -1 Favour isn't the end of the world, it's just a bit of paperwork to delay their rent payments; And we've got more money than we can spend as-is. Next turn our Advanced Industry can work on the Holoaugmented Design Space for Itavan and HI can go for Nezo's Destructive Testing Range once the Spaceport is done.

I think we should finish up getting everyone's approval up to at least zero so as not to have issues going forward, which is what my plan is focused towards.
I can see delaying the spaceport upgrade to get Nezo up if we're willing to delay Platinum Mines, but for Advanced Industry, I consider the Network Isolation Lab to be the top priority: That's where Synthetic Insights is going to be studying Geth technology, and the last thing we need is that going wrong.

The lack of Network Isolation Lab right after we gave Synthetic Insights Gethtech to do science on isn't acceptable to me.

Alright, wrote up two plans here. One is focused on pushing out as much progress on the Spaceport as possible (it's big enough that even if we focus on it it'll be a multi turn thing), while the other tries to get the only two Corps that are on negative relations with us up to neutral. Both however, put two dice on Network Isolation Lab for Synthetic Insights' Geth studies.

I'll support just about any plan that finally starts the Space Port Expansion.

[ ] Network Isolation Lab
One of the biggest difficulties in safely researching dangerous digital intelligences is that they are all, to varying degrees, capable of propagation through communication networks. Any network connection is a potential threat vector and containment if a malicious intelligence reaches the extranet is nigh impossible. As per Council regulations, dedicated Network Isolation Labs must be established for such research. These labs must follow stringent data security guidelines and operate in complete isolation from the extranet to ensure security.
(Progress: 0/150 - 15 Resources per die) (-1 Power)
Synthetic Insights: +1P, +1F)
Noveria is a privately funded and developed colony and is technically not part of Citadel space or subject to Citadel law.
Then again, I suppose Synthetic Insights still operates in Citadel space and therefore will face a lot of questions about such research given the high tensions with the Geth and wants to demonstrate they did all their research with the highest safety precautions. Or it's one of those 'exceptions' written into the colony Charter like how we have to give special previlages to Council Spectres.
AI research regulation seems to be one of the only things the Council will rigorously enforce.

The fact that Noveria doesn't need to follow Citadel law just increases the priority of getting Network Isolation Lab up. Because if we take too long, Synthetic Insights (or just some scientists in the corp) might get impatient and just start research without the proper safety measures.

People raise a good point with the geth lab, once I get a chance to update my own plan I will switch out my choice there for the geth option.

I don't really have a preference, but I do think any plan needs to include the mountain monsters option, because workers aside, if there are any 'issues' in that area, it's a lot easier to put out a fire or deal with a pest issue if you deal with it when it's contained in a small area.

Yup. Having the AI License is a massive selling point for Synthetic Insights, and they really don't want it taken from them. Of all the corporations supporting the NDC, they're the ones most in favour of doing things to not piss off the Council - they're the ones who initially pushed for Spectres to be extended weapons and access freedoms for Port Hanshan.

They don't legally need the Isolation Lab on Noveria, but they'd rather not give the Council an excuse to smack 'em with the book, and, like, as much as the Mass Effect universe is full of examples of questionable competence in scientific practices, I am assuming for the purposes of this quest that the corporations trend towards competence at least enough to say "hey letting a hostile networked intelligence loose into our network is a fucking terrible idea, let's set up a dummy network for it". Like, even Cerberus got most of the way to figuring that one out. (Although admittedly, poor network security is one of the lesser sins of Project Overlord)

To reference the meme, I wouldn't trust Cerberus to run a taco truck without it burning down, killing the employees, or being taken over by some horrible experiment.

Honestly if you're going to do mad science at least do reasonably safe mad science. Mad scientists don't grow on trees.

Having anti-ethical experiments breakout, take over the lab/base & kill all their guys is practically standard proceedure.

This is why we build facilities and infrastructures but never sell geth/reaper samples willy nilly.

It's not like SI has the best rep out there but at least they mostly know what they are doing.

Also I think expanding the hangar, getting a larger power source and maybe getting that mine running could be projects for next turn or the one after that.

Alright I have plans this evening so I'll go ahead and open the vote a smidge early for yall

I'll be going for both my plans for now.

[X] Plan Spaceport Push

I regret having to put of favor economy but this may very well be our best shot to get this done.
