Yes. This makes perfect sense. But we could... share? ... No, no, clearly that's madness. Never mind.Because, clearly, when you do not want anyone to be with your signifigant other, you murder everyone else!

Mook_Squad said:"We have a problem."
The sentence sends a chill down your spine, and you turn, to see Alice Greenglass stomp into your office, the doors slamming shut behind her as she did so.
"What is the issue, Ms. Greenglass?"
You hope to hell that it's just Alice being paranoid, as she had been ever since Oswald had been crippled in that ambush they'd set at the Atlesian Museum. Her next words dash those hopes, like a ship being tossed on the rocks of Atlas's shorelines.
"I think I know who the high-ranking loyalist at the Museum was."
The pause that follows is as deep as one of the SDC Dust Mines, as neither you nor her want to risk saying anything to be misconstrued.
Finally deciding to fill in the silence, you reply "Well, who was it? And how did you find out who it was in the first place?"
Alice says, in an out of character shaky tone of voice "I remembered that Oswald had wounded the assailant at the museum, so I decided to run an DNA test on the blood, figure we could at least eliminate some possibles. Tests took awhile to run though, the sample was pretty corrupted from the extreme weather conditions in there. I got two matches off it, which should be impossible."
She slaps down two pictures on your desk, and you look at them, curiously. The first is of the infamous Princess Krom, at one of the public events she'd been attending before the Great War. This made a bit of sense, the Krom heir had been rumored to be good with Dust, and her wanting a icon of her twisted heritage back would've been laudable, under any other circumstances.
The other though.... Was Cherise Cheshire, of Cheshire Crafts, and you look up in shock, your face paling as you consider the possibilities. How had you missed such a obvious plant like that? Her backstory had nobody to collaborate it, she was skilled with Dust to a point one would almost start getting worried about, and she was running a successful business that specialized in making Dust in new forms, of all things.
This was.... troubling. Especially since moving on her with evidence like this was going to provoke a firestorm, to say the least. The Faunus had been incessant about praising Cherise to a point that could be considered cultish, and attempting to arrest her would cause severe social backlash. Hell, three of the four Academies had solid relations with her, to say nothing of any potential Royalist survivors who would flock to such a ranking figure! She could have a ready made army in no time at all, one well armed with the latest and greatest in weapons and aircraft, a well motivated one at that.
That wasn't even considering the PR issues that could arise from this, it could be easily argued that this was just Mistral attempting to get Cherise under their thumbs, or knocking her down a peg for daring to actually be nice to the Faunus. Which is just what that turbulent region needed, as the Faunus there were already getting close to revolting against the Council's misrule. Also, Councilman Dreyfus would be so smug as to be insufferable.
"So what do we do, sir?"
What do we do indeed?
AN: You would not believe how lucky those dice rolls were. Or how long I've been waiting to pull this reveal on you guys.

Holy fucking shit. Guess this is going to derail my plans to offer a marriage between Oswald and Cherise now.

We need more evidence before we do anything. We move on this, we're looking at widescale revolts, bare minimum. The Faunus working for the SDC sure as hell are going to go on strike in favor of the woman who's done miracles for their Valeian comrades.
So what lead to the breakthrough? If Atlas quest is to have any chance of pulling this off, one of the things they'll need to be able to prove the DNA link. If the sample's been degraded by the freezing temperatures, then an argument can made that the test is in error. What's more, if Cheshire has DNA on record, shouldn't she already have an explanation for why it's closely related to Wrachïod Krom? Are the two recorded samples even that close? It all seems a bit Hollywood CSI to be suddenly declaring 'we got our mark'.Alice says, in an out of character shaky tone of voice "I remembered that Oswald had wounded the assailant at the museum, so I decided to run an DNA test on the blood, figure we could at least eliminate some possibles. It's rather understated, and I'm 50/50 on that. On the one hand, this should be the Big Reveal: They finally found Salem, everything the players knew about the quest has been thrown into doubt. There should be sheer, raw emotion. Rioting, ragequits, mods being brought in to restore order. On the other hand, the daunting, sobering scale task ahead of the playerbase might be enough to put people in too much shock to be freaking out.OK, this baby kept rattling around in my head for way too long, so I finally just sat down and did it. Enjoy.

Agreed. But, while we're on the topic, just how good ARE Remnant's forensic sciences anyway? Would this even be possible? There's a chance they never really NEEDED advanced investigative techniques, seeing as how a criminals options were "Stay here where the cops are looking" and "Go outside and get eaten by Grimm." Probably not a large chance, but we've no evidence to the contrary. So what lead to the breakthrough? Not exactly admissible in court, but eh.Figured she was lying awake at night, trying to sleep, had a Eureka moment.
Maybe this is just me, but that sounds more like a failure of Krom's than Atlas doing something super-super-super good. That assumes anyone's done a proper comparison of her DNA to anyone else. There's like thousands of DNA profiles out there, she probably felt that the odds of anyone getting a sample then matching it....
We can always ask @Redshirt Army what Remnant's forensic sciences are like.Agreed. But, while we're on the topic, just how good ARE Remnant's forensic sciences anyway? Would this even be possible? Hey, Krom's not perfect.Maybe this is just me, but that sounds more like a failure of Krom's than Atlas doing something super-super-super good.
You know, we could claim we're a royal bastard double agent who stole the crown and didn't hand it over to Krom. After all, they can't prove we're not one with just our father's DNA.Hey, Krom's not perfect.
Plus, technically it's not Krom's DNA that got matched. It's her dad's, showing a relation between the two.
Plot twist: Krom is Cheshire's Evil Twin :}You know, we could claim we're a royal bastard double agent who stole the crown and didn't hand it over to Krom. After all, they can't prove we're not one with just our father's DNA.

Cherise isn't the good twin, though. More the HARD WOMAN MAKING HARD DECISIONS twin? Morally ambigous twin? Revolver Ocelot-esque twin?
Diplomacy negatives to non-bandits/terrorists/certain situations.Being a raging asshole is a character trait that doesn't necessarily translate amazingly to stat sheets.
We are not nearly hammy enough to be Revolver Ocelot.Cherise isn't the good twin, though. More the HARD WOMAN MAKING HARD DECISIONS twin? Morally ambigous twin? Revolver Ocelot-esque twin?

Wait, does that make us Liquid?... Mistral Quest Protagonist, King of Mantle's bastard daughter.
I can't seem to find fanart of Salem that's not Grimm-ified,
We're not spouting stupid pseudo-scientific ideas and angsting about mom/dad.
Our job is saying those things and then making them work.
No, we're angsting about them.
