Could have been better, but at least nothing completely exploded. Going to have to manage Morale again, which is fantastic. And doesn't seem as if trying to go Humanist worked out so well, alas (kinda mixed I guess).

...Sounds like the plan we went with was pretty poor :/ When you have the time (and no headache), can you share more about why it was a "fumbled handling"?
Be very careful about judging strictly from results because you have no idea what he rolled and what the modifiers were to begin with (plagues are no joke).

That was my thought at first, but phrases like "attempts to organize criers is met with confusion and inexperience", "the religious work you'd commissioned earlier offends the sensibilities of the people and poisons his interaction with them.", "sudden change of orders", and most importantly "fumbled handling of the crisis" sounded to me like PoM warning us that we planned poorly

The religious work was a holdover from the turn plan. It was the write-in for trying to encourage religious coexistence.

Fumbled handling of the crisis doesn't necessarily say anything about planning. You can fumble if you intend to do the right things but just screw up for whatever reason.

The others reflect difficulties with emergency situations in general. Sudden change of orders is always going to be a penalty vs just sitting there and doing nothing if you were lucky enough to either not need the person or what they were doing before would help anyway.

Hey, hey. Don't bash the art. We managed to get one of our neighbors on our side, and I'm quite happy having difficulties with the plague with an ally in our League.

The difficulties were a combination of our choices, the choices of the previous turns, and luck. It wasn't all planning. Don't dwell on it, and help me smother our maimed sister.

Making one enemy in trade and confirming/giving an excuse for the guy who probably didn't like us to definitely not like is not really a great trade.

Well, it didn't go nearly as well as we hoped, but it wasn't disaster or a failure, so I'd say things went somewhat well. Dropped morale is something we can handle, but I'm worried about our neighbors.

Prospects of Marriage 1: Megara's first husband; Turn 3
Prospects of Marriage

[] Sophocles Rex - Your huntsman superior has nigh-immediately offered you his hand when word spread that you were seeking a consort. He is a capable Huntsman, despite the weakness of his body.

[] Pankratius Vettum - A cousin of King Nestopheles, Pankratius is a good choice for marriage. Nestopheles has enigmatically offered you a line of communication with the man, though you cannot be sure as to why. Still, he is proper marriage material, willing to marry under your name. You have, on occasion, seen Pankratius as a girl, and though he is a bit older than you, he is stout of stature and was fine company during league proceedings.

[] Ferva Harridan - Son of an eclectic Valesian Lord, Ferva would be quite the unusual figure in a Nikean court, his pale complexion and square features an exotic juxtaposition to the typically tanned and rounded faces of your Nikean brethren. Lord Harridan, Ferva's father, has had his praises sung far and wide in hopes of attracting a good wife, though Ferva's position in succession is low enough that he would be amenable to a matrilineal marriage. You have heard much from Lord Harridan's presenters, going into needless detail of Ferva's fineness of feature and talent for business.

[] Acadia of Lanta - Third Son of the Islanders' queen Sedea, Acadia is a prime candidate for marriage. Sedea, more a petty Queen than a proper one, is seeking allies among the Nikeans against Mistralan incursion into the Lantian inland sea. Going against Lantian tradition of isolation and maintaining the integrity of the dynasty's successors, Sedea is much more willing to acquiesce to marrying Acadia under your name. Lantian nobility is very closed off, only marrying from outsiders into their closed circle every so many years to refresh the blood of the line, so the opportunity to benefit from generations of careful selection is difficult to pass up.

[] Alphel Heiros - Hailing from the Callidian Islands south of the continent, Alphel Heiros is one of a large number of sons of the Callidian King, a man who boasts the title of 'One True Nikean King' compared to the City-States' much smaller landed holdings. Callidus VII has extolled his son's apparently myriad virtues, though his boastfulness is oft-known for being exaggerated. His greatest claim is Alphel's supposed brilliance and farfetched ability to recite from memory entire texts of religious and scientific import.

[] You will try again later - You are not especially happy with the current crop of suitors, or are hoping to engage with them more directly to help decide.

Charismatic and/or strong, possible alliance with Nestopheles? Nestopheles' motive unknown.

Good looking?, good Stewardship.

Lots of unknowns, possible bad traits from inbreeding, could draw us to conflict with Mistralans.

Genius?(doubtful), very good Learning.

Megara

Diplomacy - 5
Opinion of you: (0 of 10) Aristos is reeling at the sudden shift in the dynamic of Letum, but he respects your level-headed, immediate action in securing the state of the peace, despite that it was against family.
Current Apprentice: Astraea - A young girl of unnatural talent, Astraea was discovered by Sophocles entirely by accident of circumstance. She is a prodigy of impossible skill.

Opinion of you: (4 of 10) Kretes is pleased you have paid his retainer and offered him work following his apprenticeship.
Known other opinions: Kretes is well-respected, if not well-liked, by all in your court for his training in medicine. As he is a healer, Gnostras visits with him especially often for religious reasons.

Commoners aren't important enough to trace the lineage of!
Opinion of you: (-3 of 10) Liri finds the religious art you've had made to be incredibly crass and rude.
Opinion of you: (0 of 10) Rumors and reports of the execution of your traitor father, the capture of your murderous brother, and the dueling of your under-aged sister have reached Phithos. Apparently, this is leagues more entertaining news than your eight-years old bastard-dom.
Opinion of you: (1 of 10) Hermetius is more indifferent than other royals of the league.
No real surprises, aside from Kretes' non-garbo Martial score.

Marriage candidate evaluation:
[] Sophocles Rex - Your huntsman superior has nigh-immediately offered you his hand when word spread that you were seeking a consort. He is a capable Huntsman, despite the weakness of his body.
The default desperate option. He's a known quantity, at least.

[] Pankratius Vettum - A cousin of King Nestopheles, Pankratius is a good choice for marriage. Nestopheles has enigmatically offered you a line of communication with the man, though you cannot be sure as to why. Still, he is proper marriage material, willing to marry under your name. Vaguely Martial/Diplo option, potential Intrigue. Nestopheles doesn't like us but doesn't hate us to death and is at least in the League.

Foreigner! Hiss! Diplo/Stewardship pick if we believe it. Not sure how much help they'd be giving us.

Questionable diplo pick because I think the Mistralans seem vaguely positively inclined to us at the moment? Theoretically higher stats around but definitely insufficient information and potentially bad traits.

Theoretically smart all around and Learning+ pick, if he can be believed. He has a lot of land but also a lot of sons, so...maybe a lot of entanglements good or bad?

I think I lean towards Pankratius if we want to try and make this work and stay in the League, though if we really think we're going to be forced out then rolling the dice on Alphel or Ferva is probably better.

No vote yet, going to mull it over while at work.

@Powerofmind What do we know about the Vednian league? And of what happens when a city state switches leagues?

You can expect some upset for the defection, and a little distrust excepting your sponsor in the new league, but City-States are such hard targets that jockeying for better positions in new leagues and league break/formations are generally matters of curiosity more than massive news. You've more in common with a skilled laborer being bid on by two companies than a real political allegiance.

@Powerofmind
What do our courtiers and sisters think of the marriage candidates?
As courtiers, they lack the level of freedom you can boast in traveling abroad. You are receiving your most-knowledgeable information on the various candidates.

There are no especially strong feelings about marrying foreigners, unless they're Mistralan, in which case those sneaky ninjas are clearly trying to infiltrate your family.

Hmm, I think our best options are Pankratius and Alphel.

Okay. Pinging again for what we know about the Vednian League other than them being Progenitors. :)

I'm actually leaning towards Acadia after having thought it over during the day. Lanta's still a close neighbor, maaaaybe giving a trade in-road and still vaguely relevant protection wise, and that hedges against us leaving the league and Pankratius being useless/negative.

The Vednian league typically deals with the aggression of the northern Mistralans, a tribal chiefdom that often presses at the borders. Their kings and queens are about as varied as the ones you know in the Morian League, but the Vednian is more a series of independent defensive pacts than a pseudo-confederacy like the Morian is.

Your immediate neighbors across the border are eager to include you for political reasons that you're not versed in enough to know the intricacies of.

[X] Acadia of Lanta

Hedging against how any of the political developments go, since both leagues are a little up in the air.

@Powerofmind Say, did you account for the Large Unknown Dust Crystal piety/prestige effects at the end of Turn 3? Or did the boost we noticed before only kick in now and not from Turn 2? I can't remember exactly when it was first accounted but I thought it did kick in for Turn 2.

It had no effect the turn you acquired it, and due to it's .5, I'll be applying it every even numbered turn as a full 1.
