Ascensions and Transgressions: the Tales of Keris Dulmeadokht (Exalted game)

I'm hoping Asarin actually manages to become a Third Circle Demon. That would be pretty awesome to see! Though, hmm... I wonder what'd happen if both she and her sister soul managed to evolve into a Third Circle demon? What'd be the reactions of the other Unquestionables?

Probably the same as yours would be if some bodies finger grew to the size of a hand and sprouted fingers while slowly consuming the old hand to take its place.

So I'm getting a definite sense that Keris will initiate into Celestial Sorcery sooner rather than later. I suppose her Sacrifice will be her lack of appreciation for her own intelligence?

I'm also getting a sense that this is going to be the sort of discussion that requires Aiko to be elsewhere for a while. Maybe inside Sasi's soul-world?

And how long before the Sidereals start sending diplomats to keep an eye on the Althing? The first time that happens should be quite interesting.

Wow, that may be the best answer I've ever seen to the bullshit "what is your greatest weakness" interview question.
To be fair, there's a flip side: it means she won't be able to use stupidity as an excuse for mistakes or failure. It requires her to have higher expectations of herself than she currently does. That's why it would be a sacrifice; true, it's something holding her back, but it would also cost her something to give up.

mMMMMOOOOARBLEG
[12:38 PM] Aleph: Part the 14th
[12:38 PM] Rook: When last we left my favorite psychotic mass-murderer, she had just forgotten how to get back to fish-elf reef.
[12:39 PM] Rook: port of DRAGON'S JAW
[12:39 PM] Aleph: Indeed
[12:39 PM] Rook: Keris follows her nose.
[12:39 PM] Rook: Eaaateries and whorehouses.
[12:40 PM] Rook: heh
[12:40 PM] Aleph: Keris's inner Nexan approves.
[12:40 PM] Rook: "the notes that I didn't read talked a lot about this"
[12:40 PM] Aleph: (Nexus is basically Ankh Morpork)
[12:40 PM] Rook: lol
[12:40 PM] Rook: "and then there's the poor people"
[12:40 PM] Aleph: no hang on
[12:40 PM] Aleph: I think we need to pay attention to this
[12:40 PM] Aleph: "Child," Dulmea points out, "you do not actually know how to sail. At all."
'Well it can't be that hard,' Keris points out logically. 'Mortals do it all the time.'
[12:41 PM] Aleph: KERIS
[12:41 PM] Aleph: NO
[12:41 PM] Rook: KERIS YES
[12:41 PM] Rook: "Keris being Keris" is like
[12:41 PM] Rook: How you can sum up basically everything that goes on in this game
[12:42 PM] Aleph: "Kerisian" is an adjective with many meanings.
[12:42 PM] Rook: lol
[12:42 PM] Aleph: many of which have bodycounts and/or collateral damage estimates attached
[12:42 PM] Aleph: anyway yes continue
[12:42 PM] Rook: Perfect for Kerisplan
[12:42 PM] Rook: "how did I miss them" "OKAY MAYBE I DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION"
[12:43 PM] Rook: well gee Keris I wonder how that works
[12:43 PM] Rook: it's not like you don't pay attention to people
[12:43 PM] Aleph: hush
[12:43 PM] Rook: performance~
[12:43 PM] Aleph: I got a pied piper demon out of this
[12:44 PM] Rook: "at talking stuffs"
[12:44 PM] Rook: Keris u so eloquent
[12:44 PM] Aleph: indeed.
[12:45 PM] Rook: o_o TRANSFORMATION SEQUEEENCE
[12:45 PM] Aleph: Yeah, in hindsight her methodology here was... not very good.
[12:45 PM] Aleph: but, eh
[12:45 PM] Aleph: Keris was young and stupid at this point
[12:45 PM] Rook: 8 sux huh
[12:45 PM] Aleph: ... young and stupid with big dice pools
[12:46 PM] Rook: BRIBERY
[12:46 PM] Rook: with FOOD

[12:46 PM] Rook: >bureaucracy
[12:46 PM] Rook: ahahahahahahahahahahaha
[12:46 PM] Aleph: Oh, though yes, actually

[12:48 PM] Aleph: bleagh
[12:48 PM] Rook: patpat
[12:48 PM] Aleph: wince in hindsight
[12:48 PM] Aleph: ah well
[12:48 PM] Aleph: "You were not always so willing to embrace the unknown," Dulmea reminds her, gentle but chiding. "It is only since you gained the power of the All-Makers and became confident in your safety that you have lost your caution."
[12:48 PM] Aleph: oooohhhhhh yeah
[12:48 PM] Aleph: I think you've noted that before.
[12:48 PM] Rook: Mm.
[12:49 PM] Rook: <keris> *headpats small child*
[12:50 PM] Aleph: aha
[12:50 PM] Aleph: A character we will see more of appears
[12:50 PM] Rook: It's nice to see Keris being genuinely respectful to other people
[12:50 PM] Aleph: conteeeext(edited)
[12:50 PM] Rook: That aren't, you know
[12:50 PM] Rook: Demons
[12:51 PM] Aleph: : P
[12:51 PM] Rook: "Because... I'd like to hear what she has to say," she eventually answers.
[12:51 PM] Rook: YYYOOOOOOOOOO 7 SUX
[12:51 PM] Aleph: boomshaka
[12:51 PM] Rook: Darling Yellow eh
[12:51 PM] Rook: ...
[12:51 PM] Rook: >priestess of Mercury
[12:52 PM] Rook: lolololololololol
[12:52 PM] Aleph: Eh
[12:52 PM] Aleph: Not in the sense of "Mercury directly pays attention to her"
[12:52 PM] Aleph: Just that she is a self-taught priestess who worships Mercury.
[12:52 PM] Rook: I see
[12:52 PM] Rook: also lol
[12:53 PM] Rook: "her hair only eats a little bit"
[12:53 PM] Rook: ... eeesh poor woman
[12:53 PM] Rook: the grandmother ain't doing so hot
[12:53 PM] Aleph: life of a misbegotten
[12:53 PM] Aleph: not a fun thing
[12:53 PM] Rook: 9 sux o_o
[12:54 PM] Aleph: Keris is actually a very good liar, as long as she isn't lying flat-out.
[12:54 PM] Rook: one success over SQUID
[12:54 PM] Rook: This conversation is rather touching actually
[12:55 PM] Aleph: You're picking up on what Keris is implying?
[12:55 PM] Aleph: That is, her false backstory?
[12:55 PM] Rook: I am
[12:55 PM] Rook: I also note that this is as genuine as Keris can be in the circumstances
[12:55 PM] Rook: At least afaict
[12:55 PM] Aleph: Do tell, do tell.
[12:55 PM] Rook: Keris may be a psychotic demon demigod princess, but a large part of her character
[12:55 PM] Rook: Really her overarching thing
[12:56 PM] Rook: It's less a want to be loved and more a compulsive, aching, neurotic need
[12:56 PM] Aleph: Yyyyup
[12:56 PM] Rook: The way this manifests is very broad, granted
[12:56 PM] Rook: But she does mean to do right by those that she thinks love her, and that she loves - or wants to
[12:56 PM] Aleph: ^_^
[12:57 PM] Rook: And it seems that on some level she is genuinely engaging with the idea of leading these people as a nurturer, as someone to take care of them, and wants them to reciprocate this care
[12:57 PM] Rook: Which is, like I said, why this is as genuine as she can be
[12:57 PM] Rook: Of course she has to lie
[12:57 PM] Rook: But that doesn't mean there isn't any desire to actually make their lives better.
[12:57 PM] Rook: Even if it is coming from this place of... neurosis I suppose.
[12:57 PM] Aleph: Indeed. Heh. And her fictitious backstory?
[12:57 PM] Rook: The best lies are the most honest.
[12:58 PM] Aleph: So this "goddess" who's meeting them
[12:58 PM] Aleph: she used to be a spiritblooded child of a goddess
[12:58 PM] Aleph: who clawed her way up the Enlightenment ladder to become a goddess herself
[12:58 PM] Aleph: and who was at some point cast out by her family - probably her divine mother - and has reason to hate the Realm
[12:59 PM] Rook: yyyyep?
[12:59 PM] Rook: ... reminds me of Sasi a bit
[12:59 PM] Aleph: All of which Keris has implied with absolutely true statements (from her perspective) about herself and Dulmea and the Yozis.
[12:59 PM] Rook: Mmhm!
[12:59 PM] Aleph: "I'm a child of the divine," she answers, "but I've grown a lot since I was young. I'm stronger than my mother now; divine in my own right."
[12:59 PM] Aleph: She's just neglecting to mention that her mother isn't the one who gave birth to her, her growth was due to Exalting, and her mother was only stronger than her before they really met, when Keris was a mortal.
[1:00 PM] Rook: Oh, Keris. ^_^
[1:00 PM] Aleph: This is how Keris gets away with lying to people like Sasi.
[1:00 PM] Aleph: She doesn't deceive
[1:00 PM] Aleph: she just states true things and lets people draw their own conclusions.
[1:00 PM] Aleph: And does it so often that Charms which ping for "partial truths" always ping, no matter what she says.
[1:00 PM] Rook: Hee.
[1:01 PM] Rook: Anyway yes continuing~
[1:01 PM] Aleph: (Sasi gets very annoyed by that trait sometimes)
[1:01 PM] Rook: She smiles. "I think I could see that done."
[1:01 PM] Rook: aaaaaaaand here we are
[1:01 PM] Aleph: : D
[1:01 PM] Rook: Wind of the Ocean.
[1:01 PM] Rook: :D
[1:02 PM] Aleph: wheee cult~
[1:02 PM] Aleph: yes, Keris is teriblu
[1:02 PM] Aleph: Riyaah MuHiitiyah; a spirit of the wind, waves and mangrove swamps, is Keris's "goddess" identity.
[1:02 PM] Aleph: She'll be using that again.
[1:03 PM] Aleph: It's quite a powerful cover that lets her use a lot of her magic openly.(edited)
[snip off-topic]
[1:05 PM] Aleph: Part the Fifteenth?
[1:05 PM] Rook: Keris manages well enough, unsure how it goes
[1:05 PM] Rook: aaaaaaand aye that is part the fourteenth!
[1:06 PM] Aleph: 15, then!
[1:06 PM] Rook: Yessssssss.
[1:06 PM] Rook: ... actually I'm curious
[1:06 PM] Aleph: Hmm?
[1:06 PM] Rook: I never did get an answer from you about Firetongue and language abstraction
[1:06 PM] Rook: I got one from ES though which is basically the same thing often times
[1:06 PM] Aleph: ?
[1:06 PM] Aleph: On whether it was one tongue or many?
[1:06 PM] Rook: alif do u no reed ma posts
[1:06 PM] Rook: Mmmmmmmmkinda
[1:47 PM] Aleph: indeed
[1:47 PM] Rook: he's a kid, now
[1:47 PM] Rook: he's a squid now
[1:47 PM] Aleph: he is like a qt3.14 squid-boy splatoon
[1:47 PM] Rook: perfect
[1:47 PM] Aleph: and has similar attitudes to paint
[1:48 PM] Rook: Flail and put it on everything?
[1:48 PM] Aleph: : P
[1:48 PM] Aleph: Here comes Echo!
[1:48 PM] Rook: >((Do de do, rolling Haneyl's Valour))
[1:48 PM] Rook: OH BOY
[1:48 PM] Aleph: Keris blinks a few times. "The boss tree? Wait, you mean... but why are you making out like it's shorter than... right, you're gone. Again."
[1:48 PM] Rook: too slow :p
[1:48 PM] Aleph: Oh, you've gone forward
[1:48 PM] Aleph: bah
[1:48 PM] Aleph: warn me when you do that
[1:48 PM] Rook: ^_^;
[1:49 PM] Aleph: though
[1:49 PM] Aleph: "I think I'm going to stroll back to the city," she announces to the trees and herself. The not-noise doesn't-sounds somewhat more attentive at that.
[1:49 PM] Aleph: keris
[1:49 PM] Aleph: language
[1:49 PM] Aleph: verbs
[1:49 PM] Rook: lol
[1:49 PM] Rook: "
The girl just stares silently down at her. She's very young, Keris thinks. Maybe four or five at the most. She's wearing a sundress which seems to be made of leaves, and that's almost the only colour on her. Her skin is pale as porcelain, her long hair - done in a hime cut, and also gripping onto the branches - is grey, and her irises are a splash of vivid Ligier-green that almost glow from within.

In fact, she looks... quite a lot like Sasi. And it's not the colour alone. There's a Realm-like slant to her eyes, and she has Keris' lover's stubborn jawline and pointed chin. But her cheeks and her forehead are... are Keris'..."
[1:49 PM] Rook: o:
[1:49 PM] Aleph: : O(edited)
[1:50 PM] Aleph: : D
[1:50 PM] Aleph: ; )
[1:50 PM] Rook: ... :D
[1:50 PM] Aleph: Where are you?
[1:50 PM] Rook: >There's a red line in the soil just outside the city walls. No, wait. That's the wrong phrasing. There's a line of red soil; a bright arterial scarlet band about a foot wide. And not just soil. Keris can see where it crosses a stony outcropping, and the rock seamlessly changes from greyish to sanguine and back again. In fact...
[1:50 PM] Aleph: "... it's her declaration of Dulmea's authority. In Old Realm. Transcribed over and over and over again.
"... well then."
[1:50 PM] Aleph: o keris
[1:50 PM] Rook: keris pls
[1:51 PM] Rook: also, so, Haneyl looks like a Sylvari
[1:51 PM] Rook: You ever see them, from Guild Wars 2?
[1:51 PM] Aleph: Hmm. A bit.
[1:51 PM] Aleph: has googled
[1:51 PM] Aleph: She could probably pass for human without much work.
[1:51 PM] Aleph: She's a little fire-dryad.
[1:51 PM] Rook: Mm.
[1:52 PM] Rook: Also, if you ever run a game set in the far east
[1:52 PM] Rook: Go watch a lets-play of GW2 in the Sylvari starting area.
[1:52 PM] Aleph: : P
[1:52 PM] Aleph: will do
[1:52 PM] Rook: I mean that 100%
[1:52 PM] Rook: GW2 isn't a game I'm into because lol MMORPGs but the area design is GORGEOUS
[1:52 PM] Rook: Absolutely phenomenal
[1:52 PM] Rook: but yes ONWARD
[1:52 PM] Aleph: God, I had forgotten how moe Haneyl was early on
[1:52 PM] Rook: >The patter of tiny feet follows her, and Keris feels a little hand grab the back of her dress. A little hand and a few locks of hair. The little girl looks up at her solemnly, biting on her lip, and hesitantly offers Keris her other hand.
[1:52 PM] Rook: eeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
[1:53 PM] Aleph: SO MOE
[1:53 PM] Rook: >Keris laughs in wonder as she realises that each of the three enormous harps that share the tower as a common column is playing a different tune - three songs that blend together into a single rich and complex melody.
[1:53 PM] Rook: thiss
[1:53 PM] Rook: I'm just imagining and
[1:53 PM] Rook: asgjiushrdgiohareiuygh aer
[1:53 PM] Aleph: ...
[1:53 PM] Aleph: ... good? Bad?
[1:53 PM] Aleph: sowwy
[1:53 PM] Rook: yes
[1:53 PM] Rook: good
[1:53 PM] Aleph: : D
[1:53 PM] Rook: verrah verrah good
[1:53 PM] Aleph: : P
[1:53 PM] Aleph: "So. It turns out there was something beyond the cloud wall. And it was more cloud wall. But also a small country."
[1:54 PM] Rook: Well like
[1:54 PM] Rook: I could get technical and into it but ish blegtime now not music time
[1:54 PM] Rook: and lol
[1:54 PM] Aleph: you can musicbabble at me after bleg
[1:54 PM] Rook: >
Keris pauses. "... tore? How? Wait, no, something can't be nothingness and then be there. There are trees and forests and rivers out there; they can't just have..."
[1:54 PM] Rook: keris honey
[1:54 PM] Rook: this is what we call "clipping through the rendered chunks"
[1:54 PM] Aleph: : P
[1:55 PM] Rook: >A sullen expression appears on her face. She tries again, in a rather more strident, demanding tone.
[1:55 PM] Rook: oho
[1:55 PM] Rook: this one's got spunk(edited)
[1:55 PM] Aleph: : P
[1:55 PM] Rook: >Echo is half me, half
[1:56 PM] Rook: She came from her run with Adorjan
[1:56 PM] Rook: Right?
[1:56 PM] Rook: iirc
[1:56 PM] Aleph: Yyyyup
[1:56 PM] Rook: ... lol
[1:56 PM] Aleph: Yyyyyup
[1:56 PM] Rook: "the Silent Wind is my baby mama"
[1:56 PM] Rook: "get on my level"
[1:56 PM] Rook: eeeeee Haneyl
[1:56 PM] Aleph: Dulmea stares at Keris. She has one eyebrow raised. It is super effective.
[1:56 PM] Rook: yes
[1:57 PM] Rook: :D
[1:57 PM] Rook: " Maybe this one might be better behaved than the other two."
[1:57 PM] Rook: hahaha FAT FUCKING CHANCE
[1:58 PM] Aleph: : P
[1:58 PM] Rook: aaand that is part the 16!
[1:58 PM] Aleph: And that is Haneyl!
[1:58 PM] Aleph: The Flower Maiden.

o-or it can freak out and totally wipe like half an hour okay
;-;

It means she can't honestly use it as an excuse.

I'm mostly excited for when we get to see Haneyl's Second Circles.

They are awesome and cool and @Aleph is probably going to hunt me down and devour my heart for not providing a proper response to them beyond what can be summarized as "Awesome! I think they're great!".

Hahaha

Yeah, they are pretty great- they're also a rather good example of how 2CDs relate to a 3CD IMO.

Aleph's shared them with Manus and I (as part of a bigger discussion on 2CDs and how they relate to their Third Circle in my case), but I'm not sure she'd want us sharing them just yet- @Aleph?

As opposed to Echo's Second Circles, who are all universally terrible. Especially her Expressive Soul.

(Dammit Shahani.)

You all suck. Freaking teases. gmblermble razafrazza..

"Asarin"

Awwww, she made a friend.

*reads up on Asarin "The False (T)sun"*

:/ ... :) With a fair amount of potential parallels to her too.

*reads up on Balanodo and his other souls*

Okay, ES, I have to say I like the idea of the Harem Protagonist Demon Prince. It looks incredibly terrible but manages to be on point in a number of ways. And I like the example variation that the dynamic between third and second circles can be one where it almost seems like the second circles are pulling around their progenitor, or if not that then very close to hitting that point and snapping something in the process.

On which note I wonder what part of him Asarin personifies, "Love lessens you." perhaps? Then again by the other variants on that in the other second circles, that seems pretty core to Balanodo as a whole.

@Mock-coadjuster sorcery progress

Hunh, if it has lower failure rates when the target is willing I wonder if it plays off principles in the same way that second and third circles do, with success in part based on how well the demon resonates with the host to be.

...

*Quickly ends post before it can bloat into a pair of thousand word hypothesis-essays.*
