Also, I was thinking of a possible pre-boss battle strategy: We could try setting up a warded area first in the arena, then hand crosses to our allies. This way, there's a relatively safe spot in the battlefield where our allies can retreat and heal-up or reload without getting pancaked.

Depends how well the wards will hold up to Logarius' curses. The old man has serious magic mojo.
