Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 6: Fatal Fires Flagrantly Fry Frantic Friends, Family

Guys, although giving Lung IEU would be a major asset, how do we know that he won't turn on us after we've beaten back Behemoth? Sure, there's the Truce and all, but there's also a very good chance that most of our capes will be in no condition to fight by then, and he could decide to take advantage of this. He's certainly violent and arrogant enough to at least consider it.

Also, yes, SBers are populating the ranks of capes here. There were 153 capes on the front line (excluding Taylor) when the fight started, for reference.

Damn I need to pop up more, would love for my name to make a cameo. Then again it's almost guaranteed to be a villain

So, in an attempt to summarize our option... what can we do?
-Organize the forces: According to Word Of GM, our War skill saved about a dozen capes back there. So, yeah, it's making a difference.
-Ping damage: Our attacks might do more to hurt Behemoth than most's, but... he regenerates, and that might not be enough.
-Fear aura: How effective is this again? Making Behemoth a bit less effective might be a big deal. Force multipliers and all that.
-Incomparable Efficiency Upgrades: Some capes become vastly more powerful when they have it. Others don't. I would expect Tattletale to have learned a lot about Behemoth from this battle.
-Iris: Probably not gonna save the day.
-Something I'm forgetting?

Yeah, I raised an eyebrow at "Zun Tsu". XD

Well I'm glad Fanfic the illusionist survived so far (hinthintwinkwinkwhatdoIhavetodoforacameo?).

Damn though, Behemoth being out for Blood is not fun.

And wasn't this the Easiest of the three possible Endbringer Fights?

Also, I really find it hard to imagine how Taylor would be willing to forgive Tattletale for all of this. The whole "I set things up so your father would be turned violently against you" isn't something that can be just wished away.

Though Coil being made even more bullshit from canon (Full out save scumming on top of "Take two routes at any given attempt) would potentially make him near Contessa-tier in terms of how badly he can fuck with things.

So 17 confirmed deaths out of 150+ capes in attendance (not marking Shyfter because apparently 'deceased' doesn't mean what it used to, damn revolving doors). 23 others with status unconfirmed here (although we know some of them, like Armsmaster and Cenotaph, were fine).

Should we drop IEU on Panacea so she can get to work while weeping? Or will all six of her mental-threads just weep?

EDIT: Updates!

Well to be fair Taylor is going full robot at the moment focused on the Endbringer in town, she'll probably have a few words to say once she has a moment to think normally

What about me? And do I at least get dakka and beamspam

Imagine what would have happened if Taylor went the villain route and joined the Undersiders with that Incomparable Efficiency Upgrade and spammed it on Coil. Would have been a lot more than just an A/B split.

You gained a few minutes of battery charge during your TIE absorption time, but not much. You're just over 30% charge at the moment, and another big hit is going to start taking out armor modules.
Thinking about this more, I don't think the repair functions could have kicked in anyway since they're predicated on us being in a relaxed mental state such as resting or meditating. Although apparently Tinkering with Armsmaster is relaxing enough to qualify (proooo~bably thanks to the Tinkering, and not Armsmasters sunny disposition), so who knows. Even 12 minutes would have been enough to get the coolant systems up and running since it only needs one hours worth of repair and TIE's PMI multiplies repair times by [Wits]. Even if we only spent, say, 20 minutes directing the cape response from inside the command center, that's still the equivalent of 100 minutes spent repairing our suit.

In fact, I actually want to kind of argue that we should have been able to restore the HES system to full operational capacity now, based completely on the incredibly disturbing things it would say about Taylor's (or, at least, high Clarity Taylor) mental state that she considers directing the cape response to a localized apocalypse where people are getting injured or killed in droves to be restful or meditative.

Think about how unbelievably fucked up that is, and yet...I keep trying to pick it apart and my brain still shrugs and says, "yeah, I can totally see that."

Hey people, I don't think War (Swarms) isn't going to help us much while we are directing parahuman troops. Though I think that a speciality for that might become available after this fight.

How long after death can we Alchemize people?

Without Auto-kun's direct intervention?
We probably can't. We'd still need to insert the soulstone (which takes a minute or so of pure pain) so raising the dead is unlikely. Saving dying people is possible, but we have access to healers anyway.

sure Vista and Gallant are 'just' down and not killed but the fact that most people seem to have missed that is a bit distressing.
Oh, I noticed them.

Lung is conscious yes the battle just moved away from him.

We haven't tried to use the Anima like that and I imagine rules as written we can't but it's worth a shot.
Then, rising from behind the comatose form of the great metallic dragon, Behemoth raises his bloody, battle-worn arms and propels Lung's body into the mass of defenders like a cannonball.
Lung's regeneration might well bring him back, but as of the end of this update he appears to be unconscious.

Sadly, our fear aura only works against attacks targeting us - it doesn't make it harder for Behemoth to target others. OTOH, it's an external penalty so unless Behemoth spends the 3 WP to resist it for a scene it'd subtract two successes from his attack rolls (in effect giving us another two DV). That's really helpful. We might want to tag him with it just to drain him of some more WP since fun things happen when people run out of the stuff. Might be a good way of driving him off if this battle goes on for a few more updates. Definitely worth including in a stunt.

Oh, and thanks to RCa for the death toll (you missed a batch), this'll allow me to update the tally. Although I am going to tally the last two batches, when Behemoth hit the base, seperately since they're lacking the whole recovered/unrevivable tag. Also, ignoring Dragon because Dragon.

Capes that RCa missed:
Entropy deceased, AZ-24. Gallant down, AZ-24. Iron Falcon deceased, AZ-24. Penitent down, AZ-24. WCM deceased, AZ-24. Hew deceased, AZ-24. Leaping Chaos deceased, AZ-24. Silverstreak deceased, AZ-24. Vista down, AZ-24.

+4 more, thanks to Gromweld pointing out some more.

Current tally
Cities destroyed: 0
PRT bases destroyed: 2
Coil bases destroyed via proper kiting: 0 (may~be)
Civilians dead: probably thousands by now
Capes dead: 16 (+7 unconfirmed)
Chubster: still alive
Carrots thrown: 1
Danny fuckups: 1, although it was a big one
Ping damage delivered: 0
Damage received: 2L, 1B

Nobody noticed as you died. Such is the life of one with a Stranger 12 rating: allways forgotten.

Über and Leet, everybody!
Chuckle-worthy, though Glory Girl got ashed. Obviously she was trying to look impressive for Gallant and trying to show Taylor up (j/k, she took a hit at the wrong time that downed her shield before the big hit). The way the wind was moving (because Behemoth is mean like that), Brandish got covered in the ash. Unpleasant. ANYWAY, +.5 XP!

I'm not sure how much clearer I can make it in the story that your Fear Aura is hitting EVERYONE and EVERYTHING around you. You currently have no friend-or-foe coordination of it, nor does it only affect people doing anything hostile towards you. Yes, this is another thing that has been clearly stated to be solved by Meditation.

You got 6 minutes of effective TIE time. Though there was a small trickle of charge to the battery, there was only really enough time to scrub some radiation and re-apply the paint job. Looking Good is Important.

Even as you watch, floating a few hundred feet in the air above the command center as you take stock of the casualties, the list updates again with a flickering of of the projection screen. You're missing some details from a part in the middle when calculating the body count. Not sure how, because this is right below the first body count, but whatever. :p

You know what? Considering I don't really know what stunts are valid and which aren't, I'm withdrawing my vote until something organized comes along. Shit's too confusing right now.

[X] "Even though we were barely organized, we still needed to stop the monster from tearing through the city like it was his playground. After only a few seconds of rest, everyone standing was teleported back into the fray. We didn't expect to see two monsters, though..."
-[X] Pass IEU to Lung to let him fight Behemoth better, possibly being able to to use his melee and control his pyrokinetics simultaneously more effectively. Hopefully with six mindstreams at once Lung can limit friendly fire.
-[X] Flare your anima at Behemoth, trying to focus the full brunt of the fear on him specifically somehow.

[X] Occult (4 XP)
[X] Dodge (4 XP)
[X] War (Swarms)

That's my vote for now, but I'm more than willing to change it if somebody comes up with something better.
