Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 6: Fatal Fires Flagrantly Fry Frantic Friends, Family

Hmm. I was just motivated to be incredibly vicious & petty in another quest. I think the last update upset me in an odd way. I'm not angry per say just nihilistic & wanting things to burn. It might be for the best if I withdraw from the quest, at least for a while. My mind is not in a good place & I think I'm more likely to sabotage things then try & help Robot! Taylor make good choices.

Props to Gromweld, my being upset over the update means he successfully made me attached to his characters.

Like that last line. That was intended to be vicious but I feel wrong typing it. I don't think I'm going to vote on most quests for a day or so.

*Reads update*
Whew. That could have gone a whole lot worse.

...Why do people find this so depressing?
As far as I can tell, this was practically a victory. An Endbringer attacked by surprise and went all-out, a power-boosted Coil broke the truce and tried to eliminate us, Echidna happened at the same time as Behemoth... and despite the universe basically trying to shiv us with a rusty chainsaw, we survived, most of the capes survived (more than can be expected for a Behemoth battle!), and hell, damage to the city is way below what it should have been.
Yes, we've suffered a setback in the "build Alchemical team" plan, which we weren't exactly ready to take to the next step anyway. So? We still accomplished something major today.

Anyway...
On one hand, I really want to focus on saving the civilians. That should be what we're all about.
On the other hand, we've just seen first-hand how horrific Endbringer battles are. And they've just demonstrated a willingness to break their usual patterns. If we don't get maximum parahuman readiness, far more people might die in the near future than Brockton Bay's entire population.

Plus the Cradle is still intact if what Gromweld said a few pages back is true, hell i'm pretty sure the Endbringer's only think they've won this one. Actually considering Behemoth apparently couldn't see us without our suit it's possible he thought we were dead

Forgot to stunt:
-[ ] Stunt: Whoever abducted our father seemed entirely willing to break the Endbringer truce to kill us. Make sure we are always accompanied by competent capes. Alexandria if possible.
-[ ] Stunt: Some of the healers might be shaken from their recent ordeal, and we have no time for them to act catatonic. Assign the most charismatic capes (such as Legend) to ensuring they are operating as well as possible.
No stunts.

Hopefully saving the Capes will include us getting Panacea back in working order, which should also put us in proximity to Lisa

Thought of the day: tell the Triumvirate right now (starting with Alexandria, who is right here) that Coil tried to have us murdered multiple times. Along with, quite possibly, even 2 murder attempts in the middle of an Endbringer battle.

That way we get the Triumvirate to defend us. Because we could use a bodyguard right now. (Heck, they may just get Coil to back off anyway.)

Because yeah, we are really wounded, we don't even have armor. We should tell Alexandria that we are worried about our life right now. And that there *specifically* is somebody out to kill us, and who would definitely love to have a go at us when we're out of motes, low on health, and have no armor.

Fuck it. Total failure despite everything we tried to do right. What was the point then?

How is that a total failure? Behemoth spent hours trying to kill us and failed. A solid majority of the capes in the battle survived. Echidna got eliminated ahead of schedule, and Coil may well have lost the surviving Travelers. Most of the city was left untouched.

And Iris got a free space vacation, the lucky guy!

We got a good rep with the community. We are now "Valuable" to cauldron. They Want us to be alive. Iris will be back and we will get our sentai Alchemical team. Coil overextended. Coil is an obstacle in keeping us alive. So ya not as bad as it could be.

You will pardon me if I don't share your view of the situation.

Alright, I guess I need to hint at things to come to get people out of Depress Mode.

- Iris is not out of the game yet. We'll see him again before 5.1, and he'll be on Earth.
- Death toll so far isn't as high as it seems, and there are survivors at the medical station back on the beach.
- The Cradle is still intact, more Exalts are on the horizon.
- We have the whole world as our playground.
- Autobot's going to be talking to us again shortly.

This is the worst it's going to get until the ultimate climax of the story. The Behemoth Arc has been very hard to write because it's been so damning, so we won't be seeing its like again for a long, long while - my plan was for a five-part story, with this arc being the end of Part 1.

There is hope, there is optimism. This was called the Scenic Route for a reason.

emember, 90% death rate of the defending capes AND the entire location being attacked being left as a radioactive crater is a common result of Behemoth attacks.
Whoah, 90%? Can you source that? I can't recall that from Worm.

This.

AFAIK, this is a minor to moderate stumble for Exhalted style shenanigans. Likely the most irritating thing about the whole deal for this Taylor is that we lost our entire population of spiders when the base went up. Everything else is easily and quickly recoverable except the lives lost, which is far FAR lower than a normal Behemoth attack due to his hyper-focus on us.

Remember, 90% death rate of the defending capes AND the entire location being attacked being left as a radioactive crater is a common result of Behemoth attacks. This attack has neither due entirely to our efforts.

Plus, Echinda was removed far cleaner than she could have been otherwise. MAJOR bonus there, even if we don't know it IC

As for the Danny situation, we have Tattletale and Coil just broke several MAJOR rules, several times. Coil is fucked, Lisa knows it, and she is going to sing like she has never sung before to speed up the process as much as possible. He has also lost the surviving Travelers who are going to turn on him for this.

He's down to unpowered mercs with Tinkertech lasers vs a large population of surviving capes who are likely VERY grateful to us(including the Triumvirate) and with the Essence we've been throwing around like confetti, his power is probably FUBAR.
All of that.
Plus, we've just demonstrated to the entire cape community that we are someone very valuable, and worth listening to in a crisis. And we have demonstrated that we can boost Eidolon from "world's most powerful parahuman" to "world's most powerful parahuman by far".

Sure. Doesn't help where we need it though.

Eidolon, hand halfway-extended as if to summon forth some new power, floats motionless high in the sky. What insects you have near him can make out a whispered utterance before he grows silent again.

"...my fault."
Did Eidolon just figure out he's responsible for the Endbringers?

While I agree with you that it isn't as bad as some people are making it out to be, if you look at the map and see Behemoth's path, it nearly bisects the entire city. If it had been Leviathan that wouldn't have been to much of a problem. the thing here is that there is a trail of lethal radiation going through the middle of the city and covering almost the entirety of the docks.
Maybe. He doesn't always pump out lethal radiation, and I don't know that he did here (silvery glow, I can't check at the moment).

Actually, we don't even know for sure the spiders are dead. They were in a big silk bouncy ball that could have fallen through the hole Behemoth blasted in the oil rig, then floated away before Behemoth blew the generator, riding the shockwave to safety!

Yeah, also who wants to bet that Tattletale used her dose of Incomparable Efficiency upgrade to figure out how to beat Coil?

Sudden brainwave and theory.

What if TAYLOR is the Cradle? Everything delivered from Autochton came through her aside from herself. Essence, Iris, communications....

Also, Gromweld, good work there capturing the scene of an Endbringer battle, even despite the changes(no holding back, Exalt mucking things up). Somewhat curious as to how so many people got maimed instead of killed in the fight, but I suppose they had cover through superior organization which was destroyed and slammed into them instead of getting direct lethal lightning?

I sincerely doubt Gromweld will make it that easy Veekie. And the Autochthon speaking to us bit? Likely a variation of "Wow, didn't expect you to fuck up this badly." Yeah, I'm bitter right now. Can you tell?

Well, if it's true, think of how much ribbing Dennis would unleash. "You can turn people into robots by taking them into your body?"
