[A number of defenders are caught in the blast, their screams cut off as the heated, acidic blood dissolves them on the spot.]
The ones not dissolved by acid blood may be still alive. Though granted since they were hit by redirected powers launched against Behemoth that possibility is unlikely. There's a possibility that if we choose to save Capes we might be able to get them to healers in time.

We're sufficiently close to dying, and suffering enough wound penalties (-4) that it is quite possible further efforts will endanger people by making them have to worry about saving us. Not to mention that any further injuries will involve weeks of additional healing.

I believe that this is traditional.

Granted, it is preferable not to be on this side of things.

So... any ideas how we can recover the Iris? With luck, Behemoth didn't punt it to escape velocity, but...
Recover? Pretty sure Eidolan's going to have a nervous breakdown if he doesn't blurt something in public that crushes the Protectorate, Brockton Bay might be condemned with a majority of its active capes dead, pretty widespread civilian destruction in one of its few profitable areas & horrific contamination from whatever Noel released. Iris is out of the game, likely intercepted by the Simurgh to be punted into space. Overall the Endbringers are now attacking out of schedule & their full power is now known by the public.

Basically the veneer of power the Triumphurate will fade with one of its members likely withdrawing from public life, the unveiling of the true power of the Endbringers & them attacking out of schedule will make them less "forecastable if chaotic disasters" to "when are they planning to stop playing & finish us off". This doesn't even cover what negative reactions Noelle might have, especially if the nature of Cauldron gets out.

No access to Vats, Iris gone, & the relative inability of Robot Taylor to hurt Behemoth. It's all downhill from hear. I'm just wondering what's collapsing first.

Basically the vary narrow sense of stability that may have existed is shattered in the public's eye, with that predicted collapse in a few decades now looking like mere years, or less if the Endbringers stop apparently toying with us. IC Most of the heroes Taylor know died, she got a real sense at how ineffective she, and by contrast well every other parahuman, is against the Endbringers. She lost Iris & well any chance of summoning Autochan(IC as far as she knows). Her dad is going to the Birdcage if he isn't dead?

Pretty much downhill from here.

[X] 4xp - Presence
[X] 2xp - Presence (Swarms ●●○)
[X] 2xp - Investigation (Swarms ●○○)
[X] 2xp - Survival (Training Swarms ●○○)

Reasoning, we always need more Presence due to our low social stats.

Investigation would help with both the "save X" options, since our swarms will be better at locating wounded.
Presence because we're laboring under the Clarity penalty AND a -4 wound penalty, every bit of bonus is needed.
And finally, since we might fall unconscious before the rescue finishes, we should try to automate the process, so the swarm automatically looks for wounded even if we're out cold.
Updated my vote with these expenditures.

Clairvoyant can't see out of the atmosphere, and Doormaker can't aim there.

Legend may be able to fly after him.

Alternatively, Iris is capable of self-locomotion while we're fuelling him. We've just run out of Essence. It's possible that if we recover some or heighten our recovery we can re-connect to Iris and fuel him so he can fly back. However last time we broke the connection, when we re-created it he was within range of our SoPA, so that may be a requirement. In that case ... well, we don't need to breathe and are in fact completely immune to unintended environmental damage, so we can fly after him I suppose? If Behemoth managed to fling him out of orbit though it gets a lot more difficult....

We can probably fill that time entirely with meditation to catch up on the occult stuff we should have been studying.

I think you forgot about the interlude?

For Doormaker, I'm thinking a Door assisted takeoff, then use antigrav in upper atmosphere to complete escape.

May need extra power though, and a Thinker to plot the trajectory of a projectile flung by Behemoth.

Eidolan's cracking as expected in it
There's a brief lull, broken only by the soft shuffling of clothes as the Number Man and the Doctor shift in their seats, until Eidolon finally smiles and starts laughing softly.

"David? What's-"

Legend is interrupted by the doctor, her controlled voice cutting through his hesitant question.

"David is still recovering from Weaver's power. Just give him time."
"It's not her we need to bring in. It's her creator."
With Iris gone, well, lockout on that outcome.

Should be pretty easy for the simurgh to smash him into the moon & keep him there.

Downhill from here.

The third, an average-looking man whose ordinary, late-40's physical appearance would make him seem out-of-place next to his two partners, were it not for the green-backlit helmet in his hands and matching green-and-black armored costume. His expression, too, does not match the others in the room; not sad, remorseful, or penitent, this beacon of parahuman power is… wistful; there is a ghost of a smile upon the face of this Eidolon.

Wistful, smiling, laughing. About the best response we could hope for, and something that bodes well in the long-term.

[X] Save The Capes
[X] 4xp - Presence

If all the civilians in Brockton Bay die, it'll be sad the but world will survive.
If all the capes in Brockton Bay die, the world is pretty much fucked.

I think that right there puts our priorities in perspective.

Sure, right up until you feel like kicking us again. No thanks.
Hey give the QM credit. When a quest burned because of the dice roll, he had use lose the artifact that could save the world. In a lot of ways this outcome has been very true to the spirit & tone of Worm. Even when when it ends with you standing its a Pyrrhic victory at best.

...Are we sure that Gromweld isn't really Wildbow pretending to be a different user? Because the despair levels seem to be about right.

If Iris is under observation on earth, then she can watch humans track it. Zazie should be able to figure out what orientation Behemoth threw him.

:p. Stop blasting the QM. Matching the tone of the original setting is to be praised.

I'd make some type of gallows humor joke but of course Taylor's a robot. She'll probably to be there till the end to watch it all unfold. Hell since she doesn't need to breathe & appears functionally immune to most poisons I don't think she'd be able to suicide even if she wanted too. She's in for a front row seat as the world burns to the ground.

Okay people we need to think up a priority list. Which should include finding Iris, we saw him being thrown and know his trajectory so we should be able to calculate roughly where he landed

I love how much people are freaking out. What, were they expecting the first Endbringer attack - one that caught us by surprise - to be all sunshine and lollypops?

I also love how so many are jumping to conclusions and assuming that just because the locker got blown to smithereens it means the actual connection to Autochthon got lost.

Hmm. Gromweld we should be on our last -2 Health Level if the numbers (6L, 2B) are correct, meaning our wound penalty is still at -2 and not the -4 you have written there.

Which is precisely what I did *not* started participating in this quest for. If I wanted Worm's Grimdarkness, I would either read the story again, or play Wildbow's Worm-quest. Gromweld - despite claims and assurances to the contrary - obviously intends to keep the Grimdark as much as possible, given how much effort he's put into making things as difficult as possible, which I'm not interested in, so I'm leaving. Simple as that.
