Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 6: Fatal Fires Flagrantly Fry Frantic Friends, Family

[X] Save The People

As a Alchemical, we serve the People.

Thus, we must save The People. Yeah?

But without Capes the people are screwed. We serve the people as a whole, not as individuals or in this case even cities. Normally Taylor would likely go with Save the People, but at this level of clarity I think she's more likely to go with the cold arithmetic.

As bad as this is, there's a voice in the back of my head saying 'at least we go Panacea.'

And then I read the bit at the end and I get the suspicion that Simmurgh is about to pull a colony drop on us.

Did you notice that Eidolon figured out that the Endbringers are his fault?
Thanks for the spoilers. Again. I apparently just can't have nice things in this thread.

[X] Save The Capes

[X] 4 XP - Presence

I hate doing this, but capes are a limited resource, and with Iris out of reach and with the Cradle now out of commission, at least for now, we need to preserve our firepower as much as possible. Saving the city won't do any good if it costs us our long-term fighting power.

My guess at the options:

[ ] Save The People

We prioritize sending the rest of the response forces out to recover civilians who didn't evacuate in time. This includes numerous overworked and exhausted Movers and healers, we might lose some of them to the stress, accidents or irradiated areas. Many people can be saved, but capes who'd otherwise survive might die, or breakdown mentally from the load. Taylor herself would probably collapse at some point by the end, mandating even longer period of bed rest.

[ ] Save The Capes

We prioritize getting the healers back on their feet, set the Movers and Thinkers to haul wounded capes for first aid, and to find those who might have been hit by falling buildings or the like during the combat operation. This can't be done at the same time as saving people, as you're looking for wounded and reviveable dead in the combat zones. This would save much fewer people, but callous as it is, it'd save the less replaceable people. Noting that Clarity has Compassion depressed at this point, so we don't need to check for compassion if we prioritize capes. Taylor herself would probably collapse at some point by the end, mandating even longer period of bed rest.

[ ] Save Yourself

This would almost certainly set Conviction off as it's to surrender to the exhaustion. But we're mote tapped, badly wounded(we're at -4 health), almost out of willpower and even under Clarity we're feeling the stress. Saving ourselves would mean pulling back some of the Incomparable Efficiency Upgrades we're using to hasten the rescue effort so that we have some motes for self defense, and avoid fainting from the next accidental source of damage(we're in no danger of dying if first aid can be applied, but lethal converting to aggravated would suck kind of hard for recovery. Taylor would be back on her feet sooner, and we'd be in a good position to deal with Coil while his defenses hadn't been rebuilt.

The very first thing I posted two months ago, which sits at the very top of the first page of every Alchemical Solutions thread is this:

Worm, a fantastic web serial, is owned by Wildbow. This quest will spoil a great deal of the story if you haven't finished it, so go read it now if you haven't already!

Dude, there are limits to what allowances you expect people to make for you.
Expecting people not to discuss material directly pertinent to the update, is above and beyond reasonable.
You can't expect a spoiler free zone in a Worm Quest.
And to be honest, I wasn't even thinking about you.

I'm trying to finish it. It's just frustrating because this AWESOME quest is still going on in the meantime, and I still have 7 more arcs to go before I'm finished, as well as other activities to deal with between readings. I suppose I could try to marathon it, but that tends to fairly exhaustion, and may put me in a bad headspace considering the tone of the series.

Dude, if you're worried about spoilers don't follow quests based on the material. It'd almost certainly contain spoilers unless you finished it. This would go for any setting, many things are common knowledge to those who are up to date, and definitely relevant to the quest.

In this case it's directly relevant. Eidolon being stunned by Incomparable Efficiency Upgrade was because he realized the source of the Endbringers, rendering him useless for the early part of the fight, but also butterflying away his being killed by being stunned from the revelation in the middle of combat later on, and opening up the possibility of him increasing control of his power to end the Endbringers as a threat.

On the upside, Grom has really caught that "Fuck you for feeling optimistic at any point, here's some suffering and death to remind you that life is often short, ugly and brutal." Feeling you get from Worm sometimes.

*puts head on desk*

Okay, I understand that I should have expected spoilers, but given that I just brought it up, was it really necessary to tell me that Eidolon dies in combat later too??

EDIT: I'm up to Interlude 22. PLEASE don't tell me anything else beyond that point.

I knew that we'd go Agent K - I just didn't expect it to be mid-battle. It was for the best anyway, even though we didn't save everyone.

I didn't notice anything about Armsmaster in this update.
He was in medical earlier due to having his arm taken off at some point. It's unclear whether he went back into the field before Noelle flattened the zone.

Don't worry, everyone. Things will get better.
After they get worse, of course.

Can't get the second Socialize (Swarms). It's not ready yet.

Plus, we don't have the XP for it.
You can only buy one per update? Because one thing I noticed about specialties was that you didn't have to train it.

Also, we seem to have 10.5 XP looking at the google log sheet.
