Northwards Turning
Third Day of the Greensinging 1348 A. L. (After Landfall)
Though the growing shadow in the west is heavy on your mind you cannot think of aught to do that would be a great use in lifting it. Ohun might know more but he is not here and you do not know when he might return. As to the thought of swearing yourself to the young king to aid him how you may... no you cannot bring yourself to it. True you have no reason to distrust Ansefu Osane, but he has given you no reason to trust him either, perhaps it speaks of a hardened heart, but still you cannot go against it, not when the fates of all your men hang in the same balance, the fate of Inge certainly, perhaps even of Antonio and his ship though you doubt he would think of himself as one needing protection.
For his part Zaia applauds the decision to sail north with the Pride for seeking out the secrets of distant lands appeals to him and war, be it against man or demon does not. 'Just because you have a walking stick to test the waters does not mean you should seek out swamps to walk though in place of other roads,' is how he puts it and when he you ask him which sage he is quoting he scoffs and says that thought is to obvious to have made it into the mouth of any philosopher, being naught but his own words.
When you see Antonio over thee next day, which is not very often the man seems torn between anticipation at the chance to sail north and reap the profits of the tin trade and frustration that he is not able to leverage the loss of Lirman Longboats to sell his own prize. He practically chews your ear off talking about all the ways one can disguise a ship. Once you might have found it troubling, now... well one might as well blame the fox for having a liking for chicken.
Esha keeps her own counsel and keeps to the ship, seeming quite content not to have to explain her nature or her magic to the king and clan heads of Lirman. She had agreed to sail north before you reached the port and would have nothing here to hold her back.
Alas the same cannot be said of Inge. You hear a timid knock on your cabin door than night and there she stands a pale light held in one hand for a torch, looking pale, circles beneath her eyes. "I want to stay, I want to help, but I'm not... strong,"
The memory of a man's head shattering like overripe fruit comes vividly to mind, but you push it away. That is not quite what she means.
"...not wise in understanding Her mind and even if if I was who would listen to me?"
"I would," you answer at once. "You have earned that trust and more besides."
She looks startled a moment, though perhaps more at the vehemence than at the words, for there is no surprise in the child's dark eyes. "Well you aren't king now are you?" she asks with a smile, faint but true.
"That I am not," you agree with a laugh. "Come on let's see how Ripper is doing..."
Sleep can wait a while longer.
What do you do before departing Apuku for the White Lands?
Choose Two:
[] Speak to Aina about how the raids have been going, perhaps learn more than common court rumor about her suitors
[] Seek out a bowyer to arm as many of the sailors with a bow as can use them
[] Ask Watcher and Tender if they wish to return north with you, you could certainly use their aid on such a long and likely perilous journey
[] Go to the market and see if there is any blessed weapon armor or talisman for yourself or your companions to be found
-[] Write in what you are searching for (Optional will increase the DC)
[] Investigate who the people that tried to bribe James and Hugh were
[] Help Antonio find a guide willing to sail with you to the White Lands who has been there before
OOC: Your time is relatively limited since the captain of the Pride of Koire wants to get going as soon as possible.
