A Villain In A World Of Heroes

So is there magic? As in HP magic system where everyone learns anything?

Or we have more like Fairy Tail, a sort of middle-ageish magic cape setting?

As for what kind of villain I want to be .. honestly, simple power hungry would work. Think Thanos. We simply want to get stronger so we go around sacrificing people and hunting Mcguffins to power up. We could even work with heroes as mercenary at times.

Actually the heroes out number the villains at least ten to one. Most of the fighting heroes do is either against monsters or other heroes. Also, YOU, personally, is fated to be defeated, HOW you are defeated is the part that can be manipulated.

1. Seriously we are already metaganeing before the first update

2.... Let's clarifie here WE are fated to lose just US not say someone who has been supported by our actions

The thing is, we're going to be defeated. There's no question about that. We're going to lose, and there's nothing protecting us from being shot in the head, no matter what we're trying to do. But the Heroes always win. So, the way I see it, the only way to be protected enough to manage to survive and have a reasonably good life, is to make it, not that our defeat condition means we survive and are happy, but that a hero's victory condition means we survive and are reasonably happy.

I m thinking more along the lines of a etexmest of sorts destroying fate is our goal so we do so in a way that makes us a target but our way of defeating fate is to let someone else not destined to lose get what we want .

Basically we might lose but our ideals win. Maybe even turn a few heroes to our goals at the end

The idea here guys is a thanos gambit

You people are not thinking outside the box. We are perfectly capable of winning as long as there are no Heroes opposing us.

Defeating Heroes may be impossible, but evading them is perfectly doable.

And there are ways of winning. Mess the destiny, go to parallel world where rules are different and so on.

Just make sure that hightail every time we see hero. Don't bother building shit we can carry around, just increase personal power.

Yes. This is known, there have been stories of former villainous lackeys becoming heroes.

Intent-based, but it is extremely difficult to use without foci or spells. For example, many mages can do little more then light some kindling without a spell, but throw a dozen fireballs with one. That is all you know about magic.

That's not how it works. It's not "Heroes always win." (how could they fight each other if that was the case?), it's "Villains always lose."

Clearly we must team up with a hero as soon as possible. That way, we can use them as a shield against the universe's tendency to screw us for as long as they're on our side.

That doesn't answer my question. Do everyone has same magic, or they are more like unique abilities?

So we can just go around threatening to try to save the cities if people don't pay us?

No, really, after you see "My quest is totally super hard!" enough times it just becomes cute.

Guys, we are thinking a bit too far ahead.
Let's see how everything starts and then we can start planning.

Not really, the universe is probably perfectly fine with screwing them over along with us.

You are assuming that the QM won't kill us off at the first opportunity because it would end the quest. There's nothing stopping him from killing us and making us start over with a new villain.

There are some unique abilities, but almost everyone can use magic if they work hard at it. While the amount of magical power differs and can manifest in different ways, almost every mage uses the same type of magic, but may have difficulties with other disciplines, most can still use other disciplines even if it's much harder though.

Not the first. The third or fourth though.......................

And you are assuming that i would see that as bad thing. I am perfectly fine with that.
There's nothing stopping him from killing us and making us start over with a new villain.
Which .. wouldn't make it hard.

You see the problem, huh? On paper, having main characters being killed off may sound good, but in reality writing everything from beginning just kills any will to do so because it is so fucking boring.

I have decided, because I am bored, to create a list with information we currently know about the setting from what the GM has revealed. I will continue to update this list when the GM reveals more information or answers questions. Be warned! I may place new information in areas in which it appears to fit, so don't just check the bottom of the list. This list only contains things that have been confirmed or 99% probably confirmed by the GM in discussion, with some paraphrasing.

1. Villains always lose.
2. We have no protection. We have no trope shields. There are no comic relief villains.
3. Heroes are protected by tropes.
4. Heroes don't have to be 'Heroic' or 'Good' to be a Hero. It could be luck or a Purple-Necktie morality mathematical formula beyond the comprehension of mortal ken.
5. The winner will always be a Hero if one or more is competing.
6. As long as the winner is a Hero, it doesn't matter if other Heroes lose.
7. The definition of a 'competition' for the purposes of this quest depend on the people, Heroes, or Villains involved.
8. People don't want to work with a Villain, because it'll probably be bad for their health.
9. The system changes, what worked once won't always work twice.
10. Magic exists.
  • Intent based, but relies on spells or focuses for more than lighting matches.
  • Anyone can use it.
  • All magic is basically the same with little unique things, but it has different 'disciplines'.
11. We will probably be killed if we make a bad decision.
12. We will not interact with Supermen-style farmboy heroes with the farmgirl background.
13. The general population, or at least the PC, can distinguish if someone is a Hero or not.

Plot information revealed:

Part of the idea of the farm girl was to wind up being the childhood friend of a farmboy hero(they tend to be naive and idealistic), and thus getting a measure of mercy when it comes to the final choppy.

Just going to tell you now, that isn't going to happen.
