I am picturing as the omnitool having a many many abilities with the VI prioritizing and activating programs based on standard issue and on historical use of the user. Encountering a new language and activating program "begin translating language" is quite simple.

As it is now it is only a glorified search engine with a voice. Which in ME cannon it is with some added options. But really it is a military version so it should have some more capabilities that are useful, like doing the obvious without saying.
The Omnitools you (and other soldiers/spectres/mercenaries) use in the games are already mostly high end military versions. They don't do much automaticly without user input. EDI does, but she is a AI, not a VI.

Alright, you don't like a decision made by the author, you say it, butyou don't fucking tell the author that he/she is lazy just because he/she did something you didn't agree with.

And another thing, this is not your story, your ideas, while they might inspire the author are not fucking canon, so stop acting like what you think has to happen is the only thing allowed to happen.
If I would respond to things I don't like then I will never do anything else. I respond because it does not make sense and Hiver is better then that.

Hiver is the one writing I agree and he desides how the Orcs will communicate. I simply disagree with his explanation, which does not fit and I suggest something else. If there is something else then of course I agree. But when I say "your VI will do it for you without your input" and you respond with "but the character is tired" then somewhere there is a failure of communication.

If it is about my aggression and choice of words for the author it is because his responses to my post contain more emotions than the story posts, which is the problem I have with it in general.

Also his omnitool isn't "military". It's better than military, because the military issues out cheap serviceable stuff in bulk but his was a top of the line custom model he had Cerberus order for him.
The Omnitools Shepard uses (even the one you start with) are not cheap models for grunts, but spec ops gear. And Winters Omni is modified for a larger memory, not more computing power. It isn't that much different from the ones in the game besides that.

You are attributing abilities to the VI that it doesn't have. How is it supposed to know it has encountered a new language and not simply a bunch of random noises? The only way it would know to start translating is if Winter turned the program on and told it to start analyzing and translating stuff. Even then without context of what is being discussed (the VI might be able to hear the words, but it probably won't know what to make of the context or syntax) it probably won't be able to help much. In the games the omnitool serves as a translator because it is constantly receiving updated language programs.

Also his omnitool isn't "military". It's better than military, because the military issues out cheap serviceable stuff in bulk but his was a top of the line custom model he had Cerberus order for him. That doesn't give it magical "I automatically know what I should be doing without input" abilities though.

Regardless of all of that please STFU about it and stop harassing the author. I'm fairly certain shit like what you, Fictiondevourer, are doing is highly frowned upon and report worthy.
Most likely it doesn't. The response that anyone would turn of translating and the absence of the VI struck a cord of annoyance which I wanted to out.

I know it cannot translate what it does not know but that it doesn't tries is flabbergasting to me. And Brellin for a top of the line custom model I am making assumptions what it can do, maybe my hopes are to high but Hiver has not defined those limits, so I am running with that it can be useful for the roles the omnitool fulfils.

Though about harassing, I admit to feeling embarrassed that my posts are seen as that.

For that Hiver you have my heartfelt apology.

I just feel very conflicted with your stories. Overall they touch fascinating subjects which you only gloss over and I let my temper overrule my temperance.

By the time it was dark I felt like a living bruise but I could see the light of fires ahead between the bouncing.

Our destination.

Well...or so I dearly hoped. There is only so much of this kind of treatment I will stand for anyone, and these Orcs would not be very happy if I lost my temper.

I was patient before but having to deal with my so called 'worshippers' back in Westeros drove it up to completely new heights.

Glory was crazier than I first thought when I met her.

Luckily the wolves slowed down to a trot as we approached. My stomach and chest thanked them for that.

Between the small, steep, hills there was a grey and black tower. It was surrounded by tents and wooden fortifications. It was reasonably large from what I was able to detect. Maybe a population of a couple of hundred.

It was dark and it didn't look exactly like it did when I saw it in the game, but I did recognized the place as we entered the campsite.

Crossroads. The Barrens.

Well, that matched up with the landscape, if not the scale. But then again, that make sense. Azeroth would have been the size of a small asteroid if it was actually to scale...

I was pulled from my thoughts as the Orc that was treating me like a piece of luggage tugged on the chain of my shackles, pulling me of the wolf, causing me to land hard on the ground, gasping for breath.

As I regained the ability to breath I reminded myself that I do this to save a terrified young girl. Struggling onto my feet I let some white mana circulate through my body to heal the bruises and other damage caused by the mode of transportation here.

At least it stopped hurting, leaving me just dusty and thirsty. And tired. Don't forget tired.

The Orc said something I couldn't understand and gave the chain a small tug to lead me across the camp.

"Watch it. Tough, it will be amusing to see your face when you realize exactly what it is you have been pulling the tail of." I grumbled but followed him.

If I just thought of activating the translation module on my omnitool before I was 'captured'. By now it would have had at least a basic understanding of their language.

And not like I can pop it open with these guys watching without anyone trying to steal it. I'll set it up when everyone are sleeping.

The camp was bigger than I remembered from the game. Tents and people with carts everywhere. Well, that did make some kind of sense...not only was it a crossroads between ratchet, Orgrimmar and Thunder Bluff, it might be the major military base keeping the Barrens safe for travelers.

The Orc pulled me over to some kind of large tent made from some kind of red fabric. His commander's tent, maybe?

He pulled me forward and gave the back of my knee a small kick, causing me to drop to my knees on the ground with a sigh before he yelled something at the tent.

There was a moment before another Orc pushed the tent flap to the side and then walked out. This one was definitely female even if nobody but a Orc would ever call her pretty.

'My' Orc did some sort of salute and then they exchanged words.

Gee, would have been nice to be able to know what they say, wouldn't it, brain? Maybe next time you remember to activate the damn translation software.

After a couple of minutes she turned to me "Here you why?" She asked in the worst English accent I have ever heard outside of Indian tech support.

Well, at least she might understand me better than I understood Orcish.

"My name is Winter. First of all I want to apologize for intruding on your lands. I am looking for a human girl, her name is Dawn Summers. She is about this tall, long brown hair." I said, indicating with my bound hands the best I could while speaking slowly to give her a chance to follow.

She frowned and turned to the Orc that brought me here before saying something to him. Only words I caught was Damn Summers so my best guess is that she translated for him.

...Now that I think about it though, I probably should have brought a picture. Well, hindsight and all that.

At the end he nodded and grabbed my shackles, pulling be back onto my feet as the female Orc turned and walked into the tent.

My Orc pulled me along to a bunch of cages with locks and thick bars before pushing me inside one and closing the door behind me before saying something more and turning to leave.

I looked around my cage. Two by two by two meters.

I just sighed and moved to sit down with my back against the bars "Well. That went better than usual." I snarked, before leaning my head back against the cold iron.

It would take more than iron bars to keep me, but by now I was interested in what would happen next. The Orcs seemed somewhat at a loss as what to do with me it seems as this was a animal cage as proven by the lion in the cage to the right of mine.

I quickly glanced around to check that nobody was watching before I activated my omnitool and turned on the first contact translation software before I relaxed against the bars. It takes a rather good amount of the CPU of the omnitool so I usually have it off to save power.

Now I just needed to wait until it had enough conversation to analyze and it would be able to translate for me.

Sighing I closed my eyes.

Tired.

AN// Big thanks to bookmonkey786 for betaing this part.

You know, odds are at least one of them will noticed and be somewhat concerned about the fact you are not worried about any of this. Only certain types of individuals take this grade of crap completely in stride. If you are expressing annoyance at all, that only makes it worse.

edit- That said he was just in contact with an Orc patrol leader and it's worg (or whatever) mount for quite some time. I hope he picked up their essence. Being able to summon a small group of loyal orcs and warg mounts would be exceptionally useful in Horde territory, since they could just claim he's a prisoner or something if anyone asks and escort him around that way.
Maybe just the mounts, since the Orcs are sapient.

Especially considering this might not be the plane that Dawn landed in. The trail is already running cold, and if he creates a sapient creature on Azeroth without being sure she's there he can't leave until it has become real without violating his moral code.

A big problem he's going to have here is the time differential. He has no way to immediately tell how fast time in Azeroth flows in comparison to the Buffyverse. A reasonable assumption would be anywhere from 1-9 months (*3 or /3), but for all he knows it could have 1 second being 1 year in Azeroth, or vice versa.

Granted they're warhammer orcs (and thus worthy of a great deal more respect and consideration than most of their kind) but that doesn't change terribly much.
Brellin said:
Yup, realized that and revised it with an edit. Then again like I said, they're orcs. Even if warhammer orcs are a bit more deserving of respect and regard than regular orcs that doesn't exactly change much.
WarHammer? You mean WarCraft, right?

Out of curiosity, How much mana of what colors does Hiver control at this point? He could get essence of warg and ork.

Ixenathier said:
I would estimate them at 2/2, green.

They are about twice to four times the size of normal wolves depending on how you look at it, and much nastier teeth.

So a two Green creature roughly?
Just something to keep in mind, bears are 2/2s, so are a pack of wolves, but groups of infantry are 1/1.

Since he seems reasonable sane he has probably a balanced amount of all colors, but we have no idea how much he has. More then two of each, if you take the end of the first story i accaont and the time he had.

I always thaught that was the same deal as with infantry - groups of animals.

In some cases, I guess. At least a few cards used the singular, though. My intent was that the card designers didn't keep it consistent/believable between themselves, so trying to scale is weird at the low end.

So he has enough to theoretically power a planet-killer spell if he had one.

Theoritically maybe yes, if he learns to use his mana better. He mentioned once that he compensates for his lack of precission, knowledge and experience with pure force and wastes a lot of mana that way. There is also the queston if the costs for spells and the costs for cards match each other, when he tried to summon his ME pistol which would be a pretty cheap card he couldn't do it despie using all of his mana at the time.

Yes. While it does have its share of warmongering assholes, speciest holier-then-you assholes, demonic assholes, undead assholes, genocidal dragon assholes and many more, there are quite a few who hold it together as best they can.
