I could hear the Hail Mary in my sleep.
What the fuck happened in my sleep??
I woke up like two hours before the time I typically wake up. I was wondering about it up until I saw our arete count. It is a good time to be awake.
- You've dithered long enough. Cut through.
Hunger's estimated risk assessment:
*40% chance of uneventful victory
*15% chance of potent foe (1 major condition)
*35% chance of peer-level foe (enter battle)
*5% chance of overwhelming foe (enter battle)
*5% chance of stupendously dangerous foe (enter battle and prepare to die)
These were the probabilities for just rushing face-first into the Inner Temple as of High Glades. Not doing a careful methodic approach, but just bullrushing into the Inner defenses.

We then became significantly stronger since then by picking a Combat-oriented Surge Element that grants considerable immediate power, picked some incremental improvement like Vigor, and now are most likely going to pick up Eldendross Adept, which is another +your everything option of considerable power.

To sum it up, no we are not immediately dead if we fuck up infiltration. There is also an option of snap-buying Magic Defeating stance if we really must.

Full moon was when we first arrived. It's been almost 14 days. A new moon is 15 days after a Full Moon.

Full Moon was when we arrived at the False Moon temple right?

It took us a day and a half to reach there, and the two weeks (14 days) Apocryphal Mitigation activated when we departed for False Moon. Conclusion: the time for Pillars activation is about one-two days after Apocryphal kicks back in.

THE PLAN:
1 - We infiltrate the Temple, likely getting an update of negotiating our way in and another of information gathering. Maybe more then that. We're likely to get a few picks in this time, we take that chance to buy Pillars of Creation.
2 - We abandon the infiltration when the Apocryphal is a few hours away from kicking back in.
3 - We weather the Apocryphal Curse for 1 or 2 days, taking complications freely because...
4 - The time is right, we activate Pillars, healing all complications, suddenly jumping ahead in power by pocket dimension grinding, and also heal the Armament to high rank.
5 - Emerge from the Realm of Evening and bust through the Temple with our giant mecha and massively improved powers!
6 - The Apocryphal Curse will activate when we try to bust the Temple, but the Apocryphal can be outscaled, we're already ahead of the curve and our gains from the Realm of Evening should allow us to outclass whatever it throws up against us.
7 - Rescue the Moon Ring and win!

Also because Pillars cheats and time doesn't pass in the mortal world while there Hunger will have no reason not to go and train up - it doesn't extend the Ring's suffering.

Invoking Pros Pal Magic all those pages ago definitely helped.

We have 18 fucking Arete.

And now a good chunk of the thread is gunning for...an honest to goodness Shounen Power Up sequence.

The last time Hunger tried this, the Tyrant said fuck you and most likely murdered a teammate.

Fuck it, I guess.

[X] Edeldross Adept
[X] +1 pick below

If we end up snap buying then it's all good. More Forebear shit is aiight with me.

Hunger generated those probabilities from next to no data. There's a reason it got wrecked in the voting. It's also a pretty different scenario than ceding the initiative and letting the opposition dictate the pace.

do we really want Pillars next? I thought we were told it would take a while to get it tuned to produce Worthy Opponents for us?

We know it isn't perfect right off the bat, but even a few 2-pick choices is perfectly fine for something that also heals Hunger's conditions. We also have not been told how long it will take, or how far off it will be until properly calibrated.

Well, fair enough.
On another point, for the record, even if we do decide we need a Stance, I oppose getting All-Defeating Stance and will be committed to voting against any 25 Arete development path except getting one for each artifact in our panoply until that succeeds or is actually impossible.
Even if we get Once and Future, I would probably pivot to just going for a relationship 25 Arete option or even just finishing the Ruling Ring.

So you agree with me then, to oppose Once and Future as the next EFB we get. That was what that post was about.
Yes. I was making a counter argument against the argument that spending here to prevent Once and Future from winning next time was a wise decision. I believe we can pull off a Pillars win, given it's effectively the same price as Once and Future so any decision point with one would offer both. And by the time we have enough arete for it to matter again we should have at least some info from the Lunar Ring to know if going Ruling Ring is a massive risk or not.

hhhhhhh i wanna see what's behind Total Eclipse but i also wanna Evenin Sky
Due to Hunger's training problem with regard to magic we probably won't get far into Total Eclipse if it's the kind of magic that requires studying. Not without setting up methods to benefit from ring growth while doing so.

I figure Pillars is the best support for any future option, since it removes pick limits in the long term.

Of course if it doesn't, Coalescence is a secondary growth scheme. I'm currently going on the unwarranted assumption it is, since that puts it and Pillars in the same mental category, "Future Progression Security". This being alongside the Blade's "Future Progression Engine" and the RIng's "Future Progression Enhancer."

I think you would be surprised at just what Total Eclipse can do.

Update in 30.

[ ] High Marshall Avecarn

The world-weary High Marshall served in the outriders for seven decades before retiring to the Inner Ring. A mighty warrior and tactician beyond compare, he is resentful at being summoned out of his now-idyllic life to steamroll some uninteresting R-type. That the Council considers itself unquestionable does not mean it can expect the enthusiasm of its hunting hounds when it would deny them even basic knowledge of the entity they face. He suspects, perhaps rightly, that the Council's divinations were defeated by this R-type's protections and they have decided to drop the hammer, employing massive overkill in lieu of more direct solutions.

Avecarn wishes only to get this over with as soon as possible. He would much rather be tending his gardens and spoiling his grandchildren than have anything to do with you. His expansive experience and formidable Rank make him difficult to deceive, however.

*Rank 6.5
*Active Astral Rank
*Physical parameters: Generally below Hunger's. A battle would not be as suicidal as your respective Ranks would indicate, though his Soul Evocation, below, does further advantage him against beings of lower Rank.
*Soul Evocation: The Administration. While he fights best alongside a group of underlings, Avecarn has a broad and deep enough well of effects to comport himself well in personal combat. Order and hierarchy in all their forms are his weapons. Authority equals asskicking, after all.
*Enthusiasm: Minimal. If he can be convinced of your sincerity, motivated reasoning would ensure he would have no problem accepting that you've turned your coat. One does not grow to be a solider of Avecarn's age by taking undue risks in battle. Who is to say you do not have some sort of trump card that could narrow or overcome the apparent harrowing gap between you?
