[X] The Ring of Power - Dominion
[X] Exalted Spirit

Waaait a minute, I was okay with spending 2 Arete on a non-Ring pick, but rejected this option because it spent 4. I'm an idiot. I've been so immersed in SAVing that I didn't even spend on the Ring, this is some kind of irony for sure.

Well I think people are missing something for the Infiltration option. We are not infiltrating solid snake/sam fisher style through the ventilation shafts of the temple into its insides. We are presenting ourselves and trying to pass as a mercenary to gain entrance. Due to Doom we might actually fail the first exchange and be forced to kill everyone and then the stealth is useless.

Honestly I would have liked to pick Vigor and Magic Defeating stance for 9 Arete and fix two the issues in our build - low protection and low magic defense.

Picking up Vigor would've helped regardless of the Infiltration flavor, I think. Increased Protection for any possible fights, and Charisma for necessary bullshit excuses as to why an increasingly attractive one eyed individual was hanging around the place. That's how I understand the thing, at least.

Shadowlord helps Hunger keep his edginess, which is the best part really for when any kind of stealth is needed. There's also actual +Stealth too, and some +Thievery which increases the viability of Hunger's roots ala Abduction. Hunger really was that kid. Kidnapping your shit and holding it hostage until it somehow gets proven that it's legally his and not yours.

I could use that kinda lawyering.

Ring options are nice for added rank, general saving, and working towards Ruling Ring because fuck the battle of primacy.

Edelross is pretty disgusting, which is why I was voting for it. After all the details and detachments though, it's lost a bit of its shine and got that fence-sitter taste for a bit. It makes the 30% increase permanent for the shit that matters. Let's us go SANRAIT OBUDURAIIIIBUUU for a bit, essentially going full Hamon but not through breathing. I guess there's also better magic options for it, but that's like a side dish i'm not particularly interested in eating.

Hunger would fucking suck at Hamon given he's missing a lung.

I think there were a few other options, but none really stood out to me? Different flavors of saving, and different flavors of asking how is this gonna help us for real. Though, it is pretty rad that we can still snap buy MDS regardless of our picks. Then again, that's basically giving everyone an out to use up even more of our dwindling effective Arete.

...But that might not be an inherently bad thing given our situation? Like, the chances of going full ring is getting lower. And sure, it will open up more Picks for us since higher-exp conversion even for low-tier mobs. but that's only after we survive the shitfest to come. Which sounds really fucking hard given we're in the DLC dungeon and Fate/Apocryphal is back in business before Hunger can pick up steam again.

Getting more Fierce Quickening would be cool too, I guess. There's got to be something amazing gated behind two 2 Pick 2 Arete options, which could lead to opening another EFB path for the Ring. Would probably make getting Bloodwraith easier to swallow despite the potential losses to be had. Maybe.

Spending a bit more than our usual might at least let us dictate the terms of battle. MDS is reactive and basically proves that we fucked up somewhere, but the chances of it happening is essentially going to be less if we can manipulate the situation hard enough that we won't find ourselves between a pointy end of a sword and the hand holding it.

maybe.

400-ish words that matter.

Oh, that is not close at all. Surprising when everything is so cool! Nobody loves Exalted Spirit but me, isn't it sad? : (

[X] Edeldross Adept

I'm still pretty torn between Edeldross and Shadowlord. I'm pretty inclined to save though, and Edeldross Adept feels very strong for a 2-cost.

As per Rihaku Adept does almost nothing for the next update,

Rihaku has literally never said this though? He said Shadowlord was the safest option, but of course it is it's 7 Arete and a day sacrificed, it by necessity has to be better then cheaper options in some way. There is no post where Rihaku says that Adept does almost nothing for us. I checked every post he's made since last update, and he never says anything close to that. The most negative thing he has to say about Edeldross Adept is that it's a good buff, but it's unfocused and we may want something more specific. So yeah, this is a factually incorrect assertion.

I very dearly hope that this was just a mistake on your part, because the alternative is that you actively tried to gaslight the thread just to shit on your opponent's preferred option in a quest vote.

I'm going to assume it's a mistake. Try to not make those in the future ok? You don't want to mislead people by accident.

[X] Edeldross Adept

Shadowlord, while good, is a lot worse in raw stats when you compare to Edeldross Adept, which should be taken into consideration, because options are not taken in a vacuum. 30% agi, vs the 25% extra agi from Eldross Adept in combat situations(at least i think it's 25%, i'm not entirely sure if i got the math correctly.)
I also personally dislike the thief aesthetic, so i'm really oppossed to shadowlord.

I'm also salty that Eldeldross Adept would have been really, really good with Philosoper's wreath, such is the power of having synergetic magical systems. And now a lot of those people want to vote for Shadowlord...
I'm also salty that after roughly 40 updates, we are finally as strong as an Unshattered Hunger, since we can probably take on 7 rank Hunger at this point.

Also salty with bad-faiths arguments. Shadowlord is a very safe and strong option. Edeldross Adept also is a strong option, i just prefer the aesthetics of Edeldross. A lot of people accentuate the negatives of the opossing options while accentuating the positives of their own options, which while normal behaviour, is incredibly annoying for arguing...

I don't think we can take on Rank 7 Hunger. An difference of nearly three Rank is near impossible to overcome I think.

Given how Rank scales - with every progressing rank having significantly more value than the previous one - Unshattered Hunger would probably still roll us like a pretzel.

We are still growing pretty rapidly, though. If we pick up Pillars or One and Future we'll get there pretty much instantly, I think. Otherwise, incremental growth will get us there in a couple of days, a week max, assuming we don't just die.

I think Unshattered Hunger was Rank 6~6.5. Apex Hunger being 7~7.5.

Then again, Unshattered Hunger still had another 40 updates and theoretically like 50 Arete, so.

I reckon in 40 updates, we'll have around 2 more EFBs (probably at least 1) and an assortment of new systems and cool advancements. We've only really had 50 updates in this quest, many of them not major updates. So if this is what it takes to become Unshattered Hunger, then I'm pretty sure we'll outpace him soon-ish. Although, there is something to be said about accumulating power early, and using that to accumulate more...

Rihaku stated that we would have had 7 rank. Due to the hyper-logharitimic scale, apex Hunger was 7.5

Also, that's the joke. Jumping ahead in the power curve means that you can progress much safer and quicker, because power compounds on top of power.

How powerful would an Unshattered Hunger be by this same point, I wonder?

Rihaku stated that we could take on a 6.8 Rank person right now, so it's not impossible for us to defeat a 7 rank Hunger. Still would probably be something like 50% odds, though.

All the options are going to be roughly equivalent for things like this.

That's exactly the opposite of what I've been saying!

In the end, the essence of frugality is asking yourself if we really need stuff. I don't think that we really need any of Arete spending right now, and Stances really help with allowing us great deal of security with SAVEing.

Stances really are incredibly great. But there's something to be said for introducing lateral capabilities like stealth and theft! They open avenues of possibility that would be closed even to a devastatingly powerful combatant Hunger!

Yes? I gave the percentage increase to show it's a significant increase.

It's actually 1.8 Charisma, too! It'd bring you to CHA 8.1, or 9.9 with Guile-Defeating Stance! That's very impressive, close to on par with Sublime Gisena who is nearly a memetic hazard!

[X] Evening Sky: Shadowlord

When both your offense and defense depend on swordplay, controlling the flow of combat is critical. Remember how one cut killed the Primary? Or how Vanreir died because his Thrust was parried? Stealth can buy us that one cut, the first and the last. Is it perfect? No. But it's literally a paradigm shift, and we're still only 1.5 Arete away from a Stance if we need to panic-buy.

Indeed. The extra AGI in a non-defining Advancement is also quite rare and improves the efficiency of countless other options! The +Manipulation is useful for baiting enemies as well.

Hmmm... not gonna lie, but the AGI bonus is kinda getting to me.

Sorry, SAVEfriends, but STATS wins this time.
