Ah right, I somehow missed that Uttermost doesn't let us mitigate Tyrant. That's off the list for me then.

Comes down to Inheritor, Kinslayer, and Stranglethorn...

Inheritor: Librarian would get me the mage-type powers I've long desired, but The Magus was supremely unlikable. I don't want Hunger to have that guy's soul sticking around contaminating him. Why does my best chance come with such a downside...?

Maybe I should just go for Unerring. Convincing people to keep Vanreir around wouldn't be that hard, and maybe we can use To Shatter Heaven to expand his powerset into some kind of actual magic and not just "Sword better."

[ ] The Ring of Power - Inheritor (3 picks, 2 Arete)
So, strange idea but hear me out:

We get Inheritor and grab The correspondent. The Archer's ability works ridiculously well with Wind Blade spam, and is not a particularly nasty mind to have with us.

If we grab this the remaining pick should go on [ ] Fierce Quickening

If we took exhausted that would basically use up all our deferment (We'd have 1-2 days I believe), that would leave us Tired with Apocryphal trying to deal with whatever response the inners muster for the first blade killer. Doesn't seem that feasible.

To be honest I'm feeling more or less exhausted with the temple for now, since we've reached the point where people are picking options that are making a good attempt at crippling us faster than we're increasing in power. We could have just been Exhausted for a day and Tired for one, instead we choose a long term 15% physical debuff because people assumed that we really needed to be in near top shape for the trek back to base. We could have buffed Gisena and gotten a good shot at reducing the most terrible foes we face by an extra 10%, but the main argument against it was losing an extra day.

I realize that Hunger isn't in the mood to give up, but cripes I can really easily foresee people picking permanent cripplings in exchange for pushing just a little further. We need to slow down, even considering the looming Apocryphal curse, there's a danger curve here alongside the EXP curve that we're clearly off track on if we're picking up 'forever lose another important organ despite three different and powerful healing abilities' or 'get soul flayed, but successfully this time' as victory complications.

[X] Punctured Soul

Exhausted will kick our ass and liver damage is permanent. Punctured Soul is a nice in-between, allowing us the use of our rank as well as not lasting for too long.

I can't pick between the big ticket options, so instead I will suggest a combo of picks to offset what I see as the most amenable complication.

[X] The Ring of Power
[X] Fierce Quickening
[X] Vigor Itself
[X] Augment Dominion: Blood

[X] The Ring of Power - Inheritor (3 picks, 2 Arete)
[X]The Correspondent
[X] Fierce Quickening
[X] Lingering Exhaustion

Holy shit we can get that busted OP infinitely scaling shadow clone bullshit the archer was using? Sign me up! Plus a super echo for stats.

A week of downtime doesn't sound too bad, since we've still got time afterwards before the apocryphal comes back.

Fuck, what about Erii. Spending so much time brainstorming dialogue has corrupted me with empathy. She's all alone now. Her brother always comes home at about the same time, all linear-like, and this time he won't. ;_;

@Rihaku: When you say the Liver damage is permanent, how permanent do you mean?

Is it like the wounds the Tyrant inflicted, where enough skill and expenditure of power can heal them?

Preliminary vote count?

Man, I'm actually kind of sad that we won! Still pleased on the balance, but gosh, what a tragic end.

Will we learn anything, though. That I don't know. I'm still weak, easily swayed and lacking focus. What has to change to pull out of this death spiral, I wonder?

I wonder... you could try getting sources of power that aren't Hunger himself, though! Such as healing a certain Armament that's been lying around and sleeping all day. What a lazy thing it's been...

Alternatively, you could get really lucky and get even more power! That would probably do it.

Anyway, fantastic fight! As usual, I'm deeply upset about the seemingly obvious advantage which Rihaku used to win the fight. Of course the ring is indestructible, it's of the Accursed! Using it as a shield is a wonderful gambit, and I didn't see it coming at all. Age and Treachery wins again, and I think that's the tragic element of the update. The greater hero lost, and Hunger goes further and further toward becoming his nemesis.

Ah, but the totality of which Hunger is the shattered remnant was a greater hero still! One who had already given almost everything to the cause...

We've seen a couple times that Age and Treachery are cornerstone's of Hunger's characterisation. He's a crippled hero past his prime, with little of a hero's strength and nothing of a hero's honour. What he has got is a hero's will.

And a hero's scamming guile!

I would say he's only that way towards his enemies, though. Unlike a certain person who shall remain... Nameless.

Furthermore, we get to apply To Shatter Heaven to the Soul Evocation we pick up. That lets us break the conceptual limits of a magic that controls Space-Time. Which can lead to us expanding the power to do all kinds of cool space and time manipulating things!

[X] True Maiming
[X] Feat
: Kinslayer

The plan is pretty simple. True Maiming is a very, very harsh drawback but it doesn't make us significantly less competent at fighting in the short to medium term, which is very important because even if we can't enter the Temple, we should be spending these Apocryphal free days growing in power. With that in mind, instead of going into the Temple, we're going to heal Verschlengorge to Rank 5, buff our companions and grind on Astral monsters. With the picks derived from there, we can invest heavily into the Ring for +Stats until we save up for Ruling.

With that power in hand, I think resolving the complications of True Maiming should be possible within a year or so, assuming we reach the level of our former self by then. But the most important thing is to take stuff that will help us live right now.

I think The Correspendent was one of the fandoms we killed, we let the Archer dude live.
Rihaku said it was the Archer. Not entirely sure how, but I'm believing it.
Killing people is not required to benefit, just defeating them:
The Ring Hunger triggers upon "defeat," not "death."
You can also see this in the Archer update. Hunger uses it to tell when the Archer really gave up.

I'm not sure what kind of setup would be optimal here, but we could go for 3 iterations of Fierce Quickening and 1 Iteration of Vigor Itself for 6 Agility, 3 Wits, 2 Might, 1 Charisma or the reverse 3 iterations of Vigor Itself and 1 Iteration of Fierce Quickening for 6 Might, 3 Charisma, 2 Agility, 1 Wits.

We could also split the difference, go full balancebro. Take Opalesence, Iridescence, Fierce Quickening and Vigor Itself.

We may also get a pick that allows us to restore it, like our Arm and Eye. It seems to be the exact same kind of wound, only dealt by a much lesser foe.

Yeah, it's just this particular trick grabs a piece of the opponents soul. The opponent that is still alive...

Want to help Erii? There's a way that Hunger could learn about her, and probably start caring about her... Heck, her brother would still be around, in a way! Not necessarily a fun way, but it's better then nothing.
