Hmm, is the side entrance perhaps big enough to squeeze him through now that we're probably good to enter the encampment? Or is there some other reason restoring him would give us some boost in the temple?
I'm wondering if we could use our Ring to have the temple alter itself to admit the armament. The temple is a construct of another Ring, after all... One designed not to impede the entrance of another ringbearer.

[X] True Maiming
[X] Feat
: Kinslayer

The plan is pretty simple. True Maiming is a very, very harsh drawback but it doesn't make us significantly less competent at fighting in the short to medium term, which is very important because even if we can't enter the Temple, we should be spending these Apocryphal free days growing in power. With that in mind, instead of going into the Temple, we're going to heal Verschlengorge to Rank 5, buff our companions and grind on Astral monsters. With the picks derived from there, we can invest heavily into the Ring for +Stats until we save up for Ruling.

With that power in hand, I think resolving the complications of True Maiming should be possible within a year or so, assuming we reach the level of our former self by then. But the most important thing is to take stuff that will help us live right now.

We'll suffer severe damage from strenuous exertion for the next three days, which makes life really really hard in that timespan.

But, seriously we fucking burned two Arete for essentially nothing more than new options that we might not actually pick. That seriously burns.

If Hunger hadn't used his social attack, he never would have stunned Amarlt for the other R-type to smash him! And he wouldn't have gotten so perfect a chance to set up a Ring block!

I think we didn't kill space guy though? It says we get Evocations from people we've slain.

Hm...

True Maiming is just a terrible idea. Don't expect it to get healed any time soon, seriously, and if someone happens to use poison or disease as a weapon it means we've lost the fight right there.

You do have the Evening Sky, which protects somewhat against most poisons. But yeah, it'll be a significant weakness.

Wow okay that was pretty epic. Sad that we couldn't talk to Van more, he deserved better. Also our ring finger is invincible apparently?

Is it?

that was really satisfying. Not an unparalleled diplomatic success a la Byakuya, but Hunger's relationship with Amarlt is much less intimate than Ishida's with the Captain.

Indeed. Plus, Hunger's just not really that talkative of a guy. Maybe if Vanreir had brought up fishing, the two of them could have left the battlefield in peace...

...What kind of insanity did we roll? A nat 100?

A 92, actually.

Wow in retrospect this is actually astonishingly absurd. I feel like this makes stranglethorn even more appropriate. Is there a reason we didn't pick up rank from such an intense fight?

Using the Accursed is cheat.

I got another thought. Could the power of the Librarian have Poison Resistance buffs to mitigate the damage from True Maiming?

The Library is capable of many things. The main question is whether it will fully counter the debility or merely reduce its severity.

Fuck, what about Erii. Spending so much time brainstorming dialogue has corrupted me with empathy. She's all alone now. Her brother always comes home at about the same time, all linear-like, and this time he won't. ;_;

You could always take Unerring Inheritor! The Stats are quite good and the ability is okay. It's basically Dexterity Essence Triumphant with a few utility / esoteric effects.

I'm of the opinion that IF we want to choose that, the best thing we can do is to fix Hunger's arm at this time. At least that way, the number of permanent crippling wound's stays the same.

Not sure that is the best plan though. Needs more thought.

[X] Hunger - Stranglethorn

It's the pick that works best when picked early. As we now know every single defining advancement has drawbacks, and this is the least
With that in mind, instead of going into the Temple, we're going to heal Verschlengorge to Rank 5 and grind on the monsters it summons.
I'm not sold on plans that will require multiple contentious steps into the future to all work in concert (vote to stop Templing, vote to heal instead of buff or hunt, vote to grind outside for the remaining time)

So much brainstorming, two Arete spent to even unlock dialogue, and turning him totally failed. The acknowledgement was nice, but in terms of value it was... not worth it. Now his sister's alone in the world and we have a devastating complication. I'm glad we're not dead, but wow. In hindsight we should have just gone for the Close or peaced out.

If we're willing to work in lockstep we can do it. We can't keep crippling ourselves out of fear the next vote will go stupidly.

This isn't worth going Nuclear over but since the power of the Library is likely to be able to at least mitigate our poison weakness from True Maiming and the Evening sky helps us against poisons...

[x] The Ring of Power - Inheritor (3 picks, 2 Arete)

Remember to save for The Ring, people. So I'd either pick the three Fierce+Dominion: War or a 4-pick. Since Kinslaying already has a vote; I will support long term options with:

[X] Fierce Quickening
[X] Fierce QuickeningX2
[X] Fierce QuickeningX3
[X] The Ring of Power - Dominion - War

Also, of all the Soul Evocations we can enslave to our will, can we get someone more meaningful than "random archer"? It's so out of left field; not feeling it at all.

We can just rest, y'know? It's not significantly worse to our capabilities than Exhaustion and healing Verschlengorge would do a lot to make our party much safer.

If we're moronic enough to go back into the Temple after this just happened, we deserve to die.

Turns out, he was just too weak to be worth converting!

Sure, sounds relatively safe in case something comes down on us, while getting ready to continue scaling.

It's a random archer whose soul evocation matches our abilities perfectly and we get TSH applied to it.

It's not always the most impressive opponents that drop the best things.

This leaves us slightly weaker than before, but with .2 higher effective rank, this means we'll be able to more effectively select targets/avoid hostiles. Meanwhile Gisena took El Stats and now is an effective force on the battlefield in addition to her debuffing, making up for our weakness, letting us get some more picks under our belt.

But space-time powers with To Shatter Heaven, so anything they can't do we can probably make them do!

Librarian is also really cool powerwise, but has the worst passenger attached to it. Unerring has the best passenger but is a poor power - it's only half of the killer combo and I don't see many methods of expanding it via TSH the way I do Correspondent.

I feel we should pick a 4-pick option, that's the main benefit of this clusterfuck of a fight. Upgrades with lower picks can be bought later almost at any time, but I doubt we're going to voluntarily seek another battle of this magnitude for a while.

An added advantage is they are free. We really cannot afford to spend even more Arete at the moment.

I'm not sure we'll ever see Inheritor again, at least not any time soon.

Having a major weakness to poison and disease is just begging to be exploited, especially considering Apocryphal. No thanks.

Maiming isn't a trap option, per say, but there's a pretty giant glaring weakspot to it.
Permanently reduce CON and CON improvements by 10% and suffer 400% increased vulnerability to poison and supernatural disease. Suffer severe damage upon strenuous exertion for the next three days.

Looking forward to the next Aprocryphal backed supernatural plague beast or whatever if we pick it, a 400% multiplier is something we'd have to weight our whole build to patch up

[X] True Maiming
[X] Forebear's Blade - Uttermost

Tentatively voting this, probably will flip with a convincing enough argument. This fight...was freaking amazing, but the sheer risk of it was not worth it. This was the result of a 92. We really, really should have withdrawn, but ultimately, we won, and i suposse that's what matters most.

I usually would be against taking Uttermost, but frankly, we need the power. We need some game-changer after this fihght, especially if people want to stay in the temple. If they want to try leaving, i would pick something like fierce quickening*3+Vigor, but otherwise, we need the power, even if this means being a tyrant forever more.

On Truea Maiming, again, mostly because i think people will want to remain in the temple. It sucks, can't be healed for a long, long time, but it's the option that allows us to survive inside the temple.

If we want to stay, we will need to choose the least bad options in the short-term. And at this point, i don't think Hunger would be willing to leave.

Hm... I think people are sleeping on how absurd Uttermost is. It multiplies the effective speed and power of all your sword attacks by 7, for free! There's a huge difference between Thousand Cuts as an expensive attack with wind-up and a spammable attack that's as easy as cutting your enemy! Plus, it narratively fits as Hunger's reward for this fight!

I'm of the opinion that IF we want to choose that, the best thing we can do is to fix Hunger's arm at this time. At least that way, the number of permanent crippling wound's stays the same.

Interesting symmetry...

So much brainstorming, two Arete spent to even unlock dialogue, and turning him totally failed. The acknowledgement was nice, but in terms of value it was... not worth it.

The social component was a significant reason for Hunger's victory. It could certainly have been crucial, especially if Hunger rolled less well.

This isn't worth going Nuclear over but since the power of the Library is likely to be able to at least mitigate our poison weakness from True Maiming and the Evening sky helps us against poisons...

Opalescence is still pretty meh though. You'd probably be better off with Vigor Itself.

We have to go back in, Hunger won't accept otherwise. I assume there's some leeway about how soon it needs to be though.

Indeed. He probably won't venture in while Exhausted, etc.

Uttermost prevents ever mitigating Tyrant. No.

I might be sold on Exhaustion, spending time to focus on ourselves and our party members and get rid of the other lingering paralysis that's currently also debuffing us sounds nice.
