Huh. I'm guessing that's because it's guarding the empty throne of heaven, or something, and getting far enough lets you Just Win.
It's not like my Preacher Man iteration wouldn't have all of this, anyway. (That was probably my favorite story premise I've gotten from a CYOA, by the way - wandering witch-doctor with a voice in his head he doesn't fully trust but which credibly claims to be God, Hell's General chasing him, and a prophecy that if he lives, he will one day be strong enough to cast out all the devils in Hell.)

Oh man, Horatio's really opening Pandora's Box here, huh?

Nah, Word of God would never tell you any of this. Just because it's immune to infohazards doesn't mean you are.

I think so far the only Ormulum SI who has any chance of not getting immediately blown away like dust on the wind with the knowledge I have now is Skyneath, since being the Krpytarch's blorbo might possibly provide him some protection.

Did none of them take Lethe?

Hope's still trapped in the bottom.

Ah, even more reason to not trust him. Also, Jacob's Ladder really isn't very usable, is it?

You wouldn't trust the man saving your life? Alright, Horatio, you do you.

Ladder's difficult to use, especially on its own. There are, however, some builds that can theoretically make good use of it. Overall, Expressive and Ladder is almost certain suicide, given the month of waiting time until you Express. An Originator or Ancient might have better luck, having the power to survive a rough start.

Of course, such mere power as an Ancient's isn't enough to truly face what's up there, but it's the immediate safety that counts: an Ancient can always seek out power, accumulate Authorities, steal or awaken an Expression; and eventually, climb. A corpse can hardly do the same.

Can you be followed up the Ladder? How quickly can you climb into it from Hell?

You can be followed up, yeah. Putting the Ladder in the Pit almost certainly lets Hell win, IIRC.

I would be justly suspicious of the extremely knowledgeable voice only I can hear claiming to be keeping secrets from me for my own good. Frankly, even just in the Ormulum, the odds of that being something manipulating me to its own ends is so much higher than what's actually happening that the truth is negligible on priors, let alone across the general space of superficially-isomorphic fiction.

Wait, it's a physical artifact, not like an equation or something? Whuh?

The 'storm raging in the vaults of heaven' is very clearly the Prevailing Wind or source thereof. How is anyone plausibly making it all the way to the top?

Wait, it's a physical artifact, not like an equation or something? Whuh?
Not necessarily. even if it's just something like a mathematical equation, people might be able to do stuff like 'use postcognitive brain-scans to find out exactly what you were thinking when you climbed the Ladder and then replicate the result' or similar sorts of bullshit.

So no one told me Glowfic was the non-Discord RP meetup. But thanks to @Archon, I have @Orm Embar's Glowfic Gallery. Of particular note is the fact that the Kryptarch (I think that's @Aabcehmu's mysterious green pseudodivine patron, and possibly also the Ouroboros or its predecessor) is listed next to the Ecumenist... and someone named the Elegiast.

Edit: Did you know that Orm commissioned @Andelevion for art of the Hand, the Progenitor Resurgent, and a third person who seems interesting?

Andelevion Adds Art to this Thread

HEY I'M ALIVE. Updated my Commission information with more recent work and prices, and got some commissions done!! Artist Commission Registry - For y'all on mobile, but it's in my signature as well~ I don't think I've shared @Orm Embar's commissions??? Weird. So here's a mix of some older...
Not commissioned art work obviously but this is the only bit of Canon ormulum "fan art" I've done.

It is fine my child, you will be safe in Raikorum! Even from the wind, just sign this terms and services paper...
I need to read the full contract before signing, and some explanation of why the Raikorum isn't known to the Hierarchy would be nice. If it's a trade secret I'll still need assurance that it works well enough for you to bet my obligations on.

Is that Bath Kol? Or just Birdsie?

...Yeah. Been there.
From context, though, it seems to be a stupid meme character that happens to be the canonical holder of Immortality, thus reinforcing the hypothesis that Orm has no idea what 'outside context problem' actually means. (Also the one where he does, but is not to be trusted.)

Orm has explicitly stated that Immortality is of a higher elevation than what That Bird possesses.
