Ordinals have two axes of advancement. The first is to train and practice with the Ordinal. Each Ordinal is a skill comparable to a musical instrument.

The second way one advances an Ordinal is using a higher level Ordinal slot(once you attain it, I'm fuzzy on what attaining a higher slot is metaphysically speaking) to advance an Ordinal one already has, as opposed to taking one of the two new Ordinal options available at that Ordinal.

New Ordinals get more powerful and esoteric the higher up the spiral one gets. Every Ordinal becomes more and more demand on the mental stats though practicing Ordinalism improves the Wits. Ten Thousand would probably be helpful for Ordinalism progression though. It takes skill to maintain multiple simultaneous Ordinals.

Gold's Luck booster would potentially be useful for feeding our cloak.

I could see the cardinal system being used to generate cloak feeding wealth too assuming I understood emission/copy/etc.

Ah, so it's like Defining Advancements mixed with Colors. They can supercharge an existing skillset, but they have an opportunity cost in that an Ordinalist who supercharges an Ordinal can get incredibly powerful with the Ordinal, but someone who branches out is going to have more variety. Sort of the difference between a PvP build and an PvE build in an MMO. However direct training provides immediate benefits beyond the direct empowerment of the Ordinal, sort of like Green provides a Wisdom buff as it's cultivated, beyond the more combat and sensory applications.

@ilbgar123 That sounds right I think.

There's also Attainments. Normally you get 3. One every 7 Ordinals IIRC(7, 14, 21). They provide some kind of personalizable, unique ability that works with an Ordinal you've got. Haeliel used TSH with Ordinalism to get Attainments: YES, kept adding more attainments to get stronger after Ordinal 26.

For an example of skill benefits, skill combined with supercharging the Terrascape Ordinal lets you tamper with the laws of physics inside in a symmetrical fashion(I presume that means changes effect everybody in the Terrascape)

Update in 10-20.

"That's true." Adorie said, smoothing out her skirts as she sat. "Lord Hunger is still a wiser ruler than me. There's so much of the outside world that I don't understand. But being in here, it feels a little like returning to the Tower again... Not in a bad way! To me, more than anything, it feels like home."

"The home of your childhood," Hunger replied. "I suppose we have Augustine's mercy to credit, that you still have fond memories of such."

"Mm," she replied, subdued. "It's strange. Even though I've taken the Oath of Winter and eclipsed her power, it feels like I've still a long way to go before truly catching up to her. Sometimes I wonder what she would think of our present circumstances. Did she have any confidants, anyone she was close to? Did anyone know her true mind?"

"Gisena and I had a glimpse," Hunger said. "Provided by the Astral Entity I summoned. She was pragmatic. Focused on her task. Wary of her mother and her mother's forces. The position of Lord Protector brought little joy to her. Necessity pressed her forward. In some ways she reminded me of my own experiences against the Tyrant."

"Even though you were her enemy, you may have understood her best, at the end," Adorie mused. "How would she have felt about that? If you two had worked together, who knows what you might have accomplished? I may have remained the princess in the tower for ever..."

"Perhaps," Hunger conceded, "But it is unlikely. Cooperation often requires hierarchy, especially when the stakes are high and timing urgent. She would not have accepted the subordinate position, and I am unable to. And to retain the tenuous balance of equals, is a noble ideal that rarely persists."

It's a shame Augustine was slain beyond recovery honestly. If we could resurrect her and allow her to Coalesce via Hyper Reactor, we might've ended up with two fledging Builders in our party.

The struggle to pick safety is ongoing, and will not stop. Don't forget that the nature of the Geas and the Apocryphal Curse means that actual 100% safety is unattainable.

That's not meant to discourage, however. 100% safety is unattainable IRL and yet most of us have made it through 2020!

If only we could rez her like 6 months from now when we could step on the Shard and watch her be bewildered as her revenge has been done for her.
