Also, y'know, saving time in the metaphorical late-game is a benefit in it of itself. Especially from a utilitarian perspective which seeks to minimize the length of their yoke and the consequences of their schemes.

It would also likely be better for the mental health of the Hero and the general health of those around him that his Vengeance takes as little time as possible, even if he dies trying. In that sense, taking a higher chance of death early might be the "Healthier" approach.

His goals weren't really that ambitious, they'd be more on the level of like,

Justice:
Basic civil / legal protections for all citizens
Legal protections for commoners against noble abuse, and the actual enforcement thereof

Truth:
Some form of reasonably decent education available to a good fraction of the general public

Freedom:
Giving serfs and the like a reasonably achievable option to purchase / acquire their freedom, or at least that of their kids
Wow, he died for that little, huh?
If you die at t=1, it doesn't matter if you'd be more powerful at t=30!
But if we survive, we'd be glad for the extra power, that's how gambles work.

But if we survive, we'd be glad for the extra power, that's how gambles work.

The tasks of our Geas scale with our power so that extra power doesn't actually matter very much. You can potentially get an edge with constant training but that's in relative terms and only equal the strongest in that world at the moment of insertion or somewhere thereabouts.

I wonder why the Praxis is referred as the Accursed Blade as opposed to the Praxis. Hmm. The Praxis seems to be a commonality between what Cursebearers are offered.
It was called Admin Privileges back when Seram was signing on. I think I recall it saying something about how the interface adapts to suit the prospective cursebearer's perspective?

Luckily our goal is to kill the hidden masters, not going from world to world forever, that's just what we'd do in the meantime and after. More power faster would help with this.

It's ironic that he'd likely be much more successful in his objectives had he used the methods of the Tyrant, rather than noble means. That's realpolitik for you.

If your only goal is to kill the hidden masters, you should optimize for survival. A Progression type will inevitably reach the level of power necessary to achieve their objectives* as long as they don't die in the process. Since our tasks scale with our power, the best way to achieve our Vengeance is by choosing options that let us survive fuckups regardless, like Regalia or Three Wishes.

*so long as those objectives aren't related to surpassing the Accursed or other Progression types

Because of rihaku quest ,I used to argue with other people about kyouya build in Konosuba is not so bad.

What wrong with choose hax sword that can give you immediate power to survive?

Of course we can argue that Kyouya fail and lose the sword to Kazuma.

But if Kyouya don't have the sword then he maybe already death by giant toad or rookie killer wolves.

That requires he can prevent functionally-legal means of subverting his institutions against their intended functions. It's a relatively common skill among the agents of the social elite, so I doubt Tyrannical forms of success would have been more than superficial.

It's a bit late for this but since Rihaku brought up taking King's Scepter if one really wanted The Incredible Hulk thematics I remembered Chromatic Aberration from a Simple Transaction, and that I was arguing for that back when it happened. Also that there are some examples applicable to upgrade type lesser remittances in a Simple Transaction. Putting things up top rather then among bits of data, I've been pondering where Chromatic Aberration would fit in the superpower Hierarchy. Sub Regalia Tier? Regalia Tier? Does it have an Elder Sibling at King's Scepter Tier? Do we have to be a Progression type Cursebearer to get a power like that or is there a Combat Cursebearer edition?

Game of the Year Edition Blurb that produced Chromatic Aberration:
The Accursed will grant you, in addition to your core Remittances, one of the minor abilities he has accumulated over the years. Even this sliver of power will elevate you to 20th level, equivalent to the deadliest mortal human ever to step foot on Earth. You are currently level 5. The exact nature of this superpower will be determined somewhat randomly, but it is guaranteed to be relevant in combat and reasonably compatible with you. Both your proficiency and its raw intensity are likely to be trainable.

Compare this to Regalias superpower Blurb:

You will acquire a modest but useful superpower synergistic with your existing capabilities.

Or King's Scepter's Superpower Blurb:

*The Accursed will grant you a mighty power, broad in remit and scope of action and well-suited to your nature. If you are a Combat type, the power granted will be of formidable scale. If you are a Progression type, the power will be optimized to grow with you.

[ ] Chromatic Aberration - The King of Monsters.

Conscious and subconscious alteration of various facets of the Self. Three aspects can be transfigured:

Choma - By adopting a Choma, become immune to the harm presented by a concept and vulnerable to its opposite. Gain an affinity for Pattern-level alterations that increase the concept. Example Chroma:

Red - Heat // Cold
Pale - Moon // Sun
Yellow - Lightning // Stone
Vitriol - Acid // Base
Leaden - Bludgeoning // Cutting
Steely - Cutting // Bludgeoning
Violet - Inevitable // Mysterious

A maximum of 5 Chroma may be developed at one time. Once a Chroma arsenal is developed, it is fixed until the character's maximum Chroma are increased.

Pattern - Constantly shapeshifting into a healthy version of the self, providing a generalized healing factor. Removes need for nutrition, water, air. Does not prevent formation of new neural structures. No effect on Curses. Rate of change is modest.

Organ - Focus Pattern shapeshifting into the Organ level in order to rapidly force monstrous adaptations appropriate to the present Chroma. Limbs and other nonvital organs are the suggested vehicles of this effect.

Advancement:
-Size of Chroma arsenal
-Speed of Pattern shapeshifting
-Power of shifted Organs
-Heal from Chroma affinity
-Multiple simultaneous Chroma

Lesser Remittances are available for purchase. Current Remittance Value is 0.

Remittance Value of 0. An uneasiness overtook Seram as he glanced at the Accursed, who stared blandly back.

He really disliked that guy.

<Game of the Year Edition>

[ ] Seed of Genesis
- Remittance will be sequestered into a psuedo-autonomous vessel with corporeal form separate from your own. The vessel's personality and values will be created favorable to your interests. The vessel is subject to your Curses and affected by them. The vessel gains XP at 70% of your own rate and is responsible for administration, advancement, and control of the Remittance. If its physical form is destroyed, the vessel will re-manifest over time so long as you remain alive.

[ ] Intensify - Scope of the Remittance will be narrowed but overall strength will be substantially increased. The Cursebearer will instead qualify as a character of the 30th level.

[ ] To Shatter Heaven - An additional exertion by the Accursed will modify the Remittance for superior intuitive compatibility with the Cursebearer, increasing rate of advancement for Skills pertinent to the Remittance by 400%. Conceptual limits of the Remittance can be broken with sufficient training.

I do not merely want to kill the masters, but want to do so as fast as possible, and it's quite plausible for the Hero to share this sentiment. Both to help the world his comrades sacrificed themselves for, and because Vengeance is a hard road to walk, it's worth notwithstanding. It would likely be better for him if things were over as fast as possible, one way or the other.

Just kill the social elite. Flee the capital before they get an inkling of your true intentions, get in contact with a middle class that would benefit from those above them dying, use your popularity to cause constant uprisings to hamper their ability to coordinate, and generally just make clear it's the reeducation camps or death. Those are usually hallmarks of successful revolutions.

Maybe just do corporation take over ?

Conquer and seize the mean of production.

If the duke and king try to kill us,Build the enemy and introduce our superior knowledge of war industry and topple the third world King with CIA tactic.

Discussion = good stuff, so here's some discussion.

Every story spoken has been spoken before.

The boy from Earth stumbles into another realm. A world of wonder and magic, suffering beneath the Tyrant's cruel yoke. The boy becomes a man, the man becomes a hero, the hero defeats the Tyrant, and all live happily ever after. So destiny has decreed.

But the Tyrant is not so easily overcome.

He is wise to destiny's tricks, greater than destiny's stewards. He sets the world spinning to the direction of a new master. Destiny falters; only causality remains. And mere causality does not suffice a hero from coddled Earth to stand against the Tyrant.

This makes me think that the whole Tyrant and Hero situation is an AU situation of EFB, just shifted slightly for a swords and sorcery universe instead of Xianxia. Tyrant appears, somehow outscales the Gods, and wrecks Destined Hero. Certainly sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Although, something doesn't add up. If the Tyrant was able to scale up enough to break Destiny over his knee, why did he have trouble with literally anything else in the setting, let alone weak little Isekai Lad who had only a few months of training at that time?

Like, either by strength of arms or force of will or some other way, the Tyrant was able to break Destiny. We've seen in EFB that such an act generally requires you to be at the pinnacle of the local power scaling, so the Tyrant should've automatically won at that point.

The fact that this isn't what happened is a little suspicious. We see that the Hero tries again and again to defeat the Tyrant, but always fails, suffering for it each time. But here's the even more suspicious part: Though the Hero was rebuffed at every turn, though the Tyrant seemed almost unassailable, the Hero was never killed. Isn't that a bit odd? Like, literally every character of importance except the Hero is immediately killed by the Tyrant, no hesitation (except for the moment of hesitation after killing Waifu). But the Hero is just increasingly wounded every single time, despite the fact that the Tyrant growing past destiny meaning that he should have just as easy a time killing the Hero as he would everyone else.

The fact that the Hero was able to get away with crippling injuries the many, many times he attacked the Tyrant seems to indicate to me that there was some higher force at work, safeguarding the Hero. Perhaps some more malicious entity was able to take control of this world in the absence of Destiny, and decided that it would allow the Hero to win only after he'd lost everything.

I dunno, just spitballing there.

The killing stroke descends. The hero's final companion throws herself into its path. The hero becomes a widower.

In the Tyrant's implacable guard, a momentary opening appears.

I wonder what this right here means. Sure it might just be shock at there suddenly being a dying woman on the ground, but this still feels important. Like there was something about that specific girl that would make the Tyrant have a momentary lapse in the middle of battle. Pure speculation here, but what if the Tyrant is the Hero from the future, come back in time to preserve his own existence, and the hesitation that occurs is because "Oh god oh fuck I just murdered my waifu".

[ ] Three Wishes - Your heart's desire.
There's some pretty decent cheese here, if taken with Progression. Use the Lesser and then Least Wishes to improve your capabilities right off the bat, immediately jumping past the period of vulnerability that all Progression Types possess. Sure, you won't have Wishes, but they recharge if you do extraordinarily well or substantially mitigate Curses, which is something we'd want to do as we go along anyway.

It'd change the metric from being an early Progression Type with two get out of jail free cards to being an already strong Progression Type with the opportunity to earn Wishes as the Quest went on.

If your only goal is to kill the hidden masters, you should optimize for survival. A Progression type will inevitably reach the level of power necessary to achieve their objectives* as long as they don't die in the process. Except we have Apocryphal Curse(which has double the standard potency) whose downsides directly scale with amount of time we are needed to complete our goal.

Gullitones are there for the elites who are not willing to embrace the Eternal Revolution. Freedom has been denied for too long for there to be an compromise. The Hero has already learned what happens when you try to do so. Perhaps, he won't make the same mistake again. :p

[X] Vengeance
[X] Doom of Lunacy
[X] Plenary Brand

How can I pass up the choice to learn who is really responsible for our misfortune and take vengence? And how can I pass up the Path of the Yandere? The Plenary Brand will be... difficult, but we've been told that Doom of the Tyrant interacts badly with the Doom of Lunacy, the Decimator's Affliction makes us a wound on the world possibly as bad as what we're fighting (and it might kill our waifu!), the Brand of the Champion will just make everything so irritating forever, and the Affliction of Slumber is so bad for someone who depends on training to grow in power (it would be a much better choice for a combat-type though).

[X] The King's Scepter

As much as I dearly wish to take the Praxis, it won't work with the Plenary Brand, at all. An initial power boost is not optional, especially with the Doom of Lunacy reducing our already megare starting power.

Oh-ho. Are we truly going full poetry with this? Because I've had some poetry brewing for a while, thanks.

JUST

~~~
Many have asked
and many have known
what is it
to be just?
Is it the knowledge and wisdom to judge?
Or the strength and swiftness to act?
Does it strike down evil and good alike?
Or does it claim none at all?
Is it the domain of gavels and files?
Or instead soaked in blood and bile?
Can you find it in the chains of the guilty?
Or the weeping instead of those who stand free?
We've debated and challenged and made the rules all anew
We who bring justice to the world
But when all is said and done what have we brought
But ruin and strife and harsh sun?
Is it justice we seek
Who stand upon this world?
Or perhaps the truth is we seek to just
Be
Instead of morals and ideals as shackles
Perhaps we could instead break free
But when all is new and there are no more slaves
Somehow more always emerge
Is it truth?
Control?
Violence?
Society?
Are we in its grasp?
Do we stand behind it?
Can we see what it does?
To those who stand before it?
Justice, they say
Is an emergent property
Sum the world, and not an atom you'll miss
But to them I say
You divide far too sloppily
Five fingers merely make a fist
Yes, surviving your first encounters in universe is a relevant challenge, why wouldn't it be? You have not only the Geas and your other Curses to worry about but also the Apocryphal Curse. Mathematically speaking, taking the Sword and Progression would be something like choosing A of the following:
A) 40% chance to survive the first world and 99% chance to complete your final objective if you survive
B) 80% chance to survive the first world and 90% chance to complete your final objective if you survive, though it may take significantly longer than A
Seram also had the Brand which caused the orc to attack him. There are many decisions he could have made to survive that encounter, like taking Pay to Win or New Game Plus.
Perhaps, but for myself, the goal is the plumb the depths of the Praxis. Thus, the choices are either a 100% chance of making partial progress and 0% chance of actually succeeding, by taking the more limited non growing Combat version, or by taking Progression having a non-zero chance of achieving success. Thus, there is only one choice with any possibility of success, no matter how poor the odds are otherwise.
Just kill the social elite. Flee the capital before they get an inkling of your true intentions, get in contact with a middle class that would benefit from those above them dying, use your popularity to cause constant uprisings to hamper their ability to coordinate, and generally just make clear it's the reeducation camps or death. Those are usually hallmarks of successful revolutions.
So you're going to take an army of abused citizens led by ambitious traitors to create an age of... peace? You can't pay soldiers with peace, they'll need their reward for risking their lives. The factions they formed during the war don't disappear either. Decadence can hold back the internal conflict for a time, but fundamentally it's a perfect design for civil war.
Except we have Apocryphal Curse(which has double the standard potency) whose downsides directly scale with amount of time we are needed to complete our goal.
The challenges involved with the Apocryphal will scale to your power, which still makes the various forms of plot armour better at dealing with them than hoping to speedrun your Vengeance before the Curse procs and kills you.
I do not merely want to kill the masters, but want to do so as fast as possible, and it's quite plausible for the Hero to share this sentiment. Both to help the world his comrades sacrificed themselves for, and because Vengeance is a hard road to walk, it's worth notwithstanding. It would likely be better for him if things were over as fast as possible, one way or the other.
Vengeance is explicitly not about helping the world and its definitely not about the protagonist's wellfare. If you care about either of those things, you should choose Freedom. Vengeance is about murdering the gods of the world, no matter the cost. Just look at Baenlixnaire. He waited thousands upon thousands of years for his time to come and when it did, he burned his very soul to arm the scion of his mortal enemy, all due to his rage against the Fates. He certainly didn't throw his life away on a gamble.
If I was pursuing Vengeance, I'd substitute the Sword for the Three Wishes:
[ ] No Matter the Cost.
-[ ] Vengeance
-[ ] The Geas of Indenture
-[ ] Decimator's Affliction
-[ ] Doom of the Tyrant
-[ ] The Apocryphal Curse
-[ ] Three Wishes
The Decimator's Affliction is unlikely to be traced in the world of a starting Progression type Cursebearer, the effect is hard to notice and there are many avenues for mitigation. The Doom can be resolved through persuasion, coercion and simple avoidance of other human beings. Neither is an issue in the short term. Use the Least Wish to restore yourself to full power, then progress in either our existing disciplines, the arts of the new world or simple physical ability and skill.
Once powerful enough, make a Lesser Wish for the Royal Praxis (if you feel that's necessary) and use the interactions between your abilities to propel yourself into power. Any mortal threats from the Curse are easily resolved through defensive True Wishes, even if we can't manage to overcome them through our own power. This plan is significantly more survivable than the Sword (and thus more likely to achieve Vengeance) while still including the Praxis, though the delayed gratification might make it unappealing to some.
