Westeros is the center of this universe and the Targaryens are the beating heart of Westeros. It's that simple, really.

Maelys being killed off rather inevitably led the Targaryens to have to retrench though. Which is great politics, but makes things a bit uneventful in a NG.

It curtailed the crazy and opened up the door for Sybilla, Daena, Aethan, Ori and Aeryn all to shine, both politically and on a personal level stepping out of his shadow into new relationships and scenarios. Whereas Maelys was shut off to the world the new crop of Targs are able to relate and deal with most people...it's just time-consuming and taxing to do so.

Sibella and Daena were already both doing their own things, and realistically aren't going to get larger roles in the absence of Maelys, Aethan's trying to learn not to be an arse, confining himself to Chaisson, and the kids are all kids.

Edmure does need to redeem himself. As for why Robb can't do it... let's just say dragons are excellent negotiators when it comes to convincing your husband to take a vacation.
Nice. But yeah, I really want to keep this game running, and we have to keep Westeros turning for that to work.

Sibella and Daena are dragon-riders, one tied to the Tullys, the other to Braavos - they have their hands in several jars, and the kids are actually teenagers, which makes them adults in Westerosi thinking (not that kids and their actions can't be highly political, which is the whole point of fosterings and squirings and all the rest of it).

Generally speaking no game has survived a hiatus, in my limited experience.
At least one has, Greatest Game, which explicitly went on hiatus so people could have time to recover and bypass school, exams, etc.

And I'm sorry I've not been as active but as I mentioned to Mina, my SW NG is eating up a lot of my time and attention.

The Napoleonic Wars one Cetashwayo ran back on AH. It went on hiatus once and came back just fine later on.

Ah, I'm not familiar with it, but cool. I think ASOIAF has the boon/burden of being a popular...franchise? and with our community expanding and getting stronger (such that we have two/three games right now, plus the medieval exploration one which has a fairly similar feel/demographic) I feel...apprehensive about a hiatus being seen as anything but a deathknell.
