A Penguin Plays RULE THE WAVES

030.1 WAR! - Spain vs Italy - Coastal Raid off Catalonia
Did they just pass by a juicy convoy target for a reprisal raid like what we pulled off Messina?
Do they plan to humiliate us by hanging around outside their port shooting stuff up with impunity?

All right.
Who do we got?

CA ADOBO and ADOBE again, eh?
Good. Good.
Best in the fleet.

>> CA ADOBE> It's not like the fleet have any better.

>> CA ADOBO> So... where's the enemy?

It is literally midnight.

>> CA ADOBO> Cain't see shite, admiral!

Oh. Good.

>> CA ADOBE> Enemy last heading course South West.
>> CA ADOBE> WE are due South West.

WHERE ARE YOUUUUUU

>> CA ADOBE> Who is even reporting this?

Wait.

THESE MOTHERFUCKERS HAVE A FUNCTIONAL MAP.

They were able to head straight to their bombardment target.

>> B ROMA-class>> Buon giorno.

So, can your two cruisers handle a pre-dreadnought? It has bigger main guns and I think tougher armor? Though I don't expect the 5inch secondaries to be of much use against your vessels.

030.2 WAR! - Spain vs Italy - Coastal Raid off Catalonia

>>CA ADOBO> Buenas dias.

>> CA ADOBE> Identified 1 B, 1 CA, 3 DD.

>>CA ADOBO> Welcome to Catalonia.
>>CA ADOBO> For breakfast today the plate is coffee, bacon, and solid slug AP.

So they're really just turning around and running away, huh?

>> CA ADOBE> Adobo, I know you're badass but trading blows with a Battleship-

>> CA ADOBO> (superstructure hit by nine-inch gun)
>> CA ADOBO> (splinters damage hull and deck)

>> CA ADOBO> I'MMA GET ME A BADASS EYEPATCH!

You already have flooding and your maximum speed dropped.

Wait, is ADOBO the Cruiser Division leader this time?

>> CA ADOBO> COME BACK!
>> CA ADOBO> FIGHT ME!
>> CA ADOBO> THE SOUP IS CALLED PAIN! THE BREAD IS PAN DE FUCK YOU.

>> CA ADOBE> Nine inch guns can penetrate our armor, much more so twelve-inchers.

Crap.

>> CA ADOBE> They happened to come across a Spanish Merchant Vessel and sank it in short order.

>> CA ADOBO> (critical hit, rudder damaged)
>> CA ADOBO> OUCH MY SPINE

>> CA ADOBO> I know this feeling. Those are MEDIUM GUN hits.

Six inches of black magic!

>>CA ADOBO> Buenas dias.
Hi!
>>CA ADOBO> Welcome to Catalonia.
>>CA ADOBO> For breakfast today the plate is coffee, bacon, and solid slug AP.
Starting off today strong eh?
>> CA ADOBE> Adobo, I know you're badass but trading blows with a Battleship-

>> CA ADOBO> (superstructure hit by nine-inch gun)
>> CA ADOBO> (splinters damage hull and deck)

>> CA ADOBO> I'MMA GET ME A BADASS EYEPATCH!
Adobo, what did we say about your aggressive business tactics?
>> CA ADOBO> COME BACK!
>> CA ADOBO> FIGHT ME!
>> CA ADOBO> THE SOUP IS CALLED PAIN! THE BREAD IS PAN DE FUCK YOU.
AGAIN! What did we say about your tactics Adobo!
Edit:
Kek.

>> CA ADOBO> Scars?
>> CA ADOBO> You mean THE WAGES OF BADASSERY?
-Pillar Men theme plays in the distance-

if your CAs sink a B, I will stop mentally disparaging their yellow paint scheme. But damn, you're good at giving these ships personalities

030.3 WAR! - Spain vs Italy - Coastal Raid off Catalonia

Flotation damage increasing.
1 Heavy hit, but a lot of Medium hits.

Those six-inchers ain't messing around against our EIGHT INCHES OF BELT ARMOR.

>> CA ADOBO> Ouch my nose.
>> CA ADOBO> Ouch my ass.

>> CA ADOBE> Enemy is getting away due East while Adobo's rudder is jammed South West.

>> CA ADOBO> I got the stick up my ass unstuck.
>> CA ADOBO> Sadly ADOBE's stick is still up there.

>> CA ADOBE> Look, we may be identical as sister ships but going off alone to "Pull an Adobo" is nowhere in my handbook.

>> CA ADOBE> Squadron top speed is down to 15 knots.

>> CA ADOBE> Enemy lead increasing.

Screw it then.
You're just wasting fuel.

Turn around.

Take a break.
Have a Kit Kat.

030.3 AFTER ACTION REPORT - Spain vs Italy - Coastal Raid off Catalonia

Craptastic.

Although it looks like 8-inch guns can damage a B with 8.5" of armor... or our own six inch guns are doing that.
Superstructure damage is also considered Light Damage.

We could have done some real damage and sank a DD or CA in turn if it wasn't for that early Engine hit.

The battle technically lasted from midnight to early morning, but it was only around sunrise that anything happened.

At 5:00 - we figured out that the enemy was going back and forth in front of a group of six-inch land gun batteries.

The enemy almost immediately broke off and headed South and then South West.

At 8:30 - CA ADOBO took engine damage that somehow dropped top speed from 21 knots to 17 knots.
Flooding reduced top speed further to 16 knots.

At around 9:00 - a Spanish Merchant happened to be in the path of the dueling fleets, and was sunk by the Italian fleet as they passed by.

CA ADOBO and B ROMA traded blows for a while, and then

At 9:30 - somehow CA ADOBO took a six-inch gun hit from CA GIUSEPPE GARIBALDI-class that jammed her rudder in the centerline position.

With the Spanish CA Division locked in a S-SW position, the enemy fleet banked to a South East exit route.

At about 10:00 CA ADOBO regained steering and the Cruiser Division chased the enemy fleet
Until 11:00 - Increased flooding reduced CA ADOBO's top speed to 15 knots.

By 11:30 it was clear that the enemy was moving out of visual range.
The Spanish Cruiser Division turned around and made course towards Barcelona.

By 13:00 the battle was concluded.

That was unsatisfying.

>> CA ADOBO> We could have taken 'em!

You could have... if you could just catch up.
It was that early unlucky hit that made this battle end so unconclusively.

It was just bad luck.

And don't say anything about ADOBE going off ahead to fight by herself.
2 vs 1 is needed against any decent amount of armor or we're just blasting away for hours with main guns unable to penetrate anything except at point blank range.

We need more six-inch secondaries.

031.1 WAR! - Spain vs Italy - May 1906

Again with the raiding around the Philippines.

We have... a couple of MS gunboats in South East Asia.
They're not going to be able to go up against an Armored Cruiser.

Hmm.
Well we don't have any Battleships or 12-inch guns to beat the B ROMA anyway...

What can we get?

Yes we pretty clearly won this war.
What do we have under "some concessions and minor territories"?

I GOT SHITE!

>>Dockmaster> What's the mood today?
>>CA Lechon> Adobo's throwing a tantrum in her berth and demolishing her supply of punching bags.
>>CA Lechon> Adobe keeps creepily cleaning her nails with a knife no matter how many times it gets confiscated.
>>CA Lechon> Adontbe's been looping her victory album and wailing that her best years are over.
>>CA Lechon> Furiosa says she's invented a new maneuver for peacetime displays called a 'donut' and keeps trying to put in for engine upgrades.
>>Dockmaster> Business as usual, then.
>>CA Lechon> Si.

31.1 Spain - April 1906

We... we just finished building those.
Did we just waste FOUR MILLION on hulls we never got to use?!

May I load senators into them?

... dammit they snuck in industrial espionage through peace negotiations too.

I went from a monthly budget of 4.75 million to 3.5 million!

Wait, what was my budget BEFORE the war?

3.8 million!
It's one thing to reward good work with more work, but what spoils did we actually get from Italy from winning this war?

32.1 Spain - July 1906

Peace dividend ahoy?
That's a slight balm to the emotional pain I have right now, but we'll have to see what that means once we get the monthly economic report.

Good.
With more training, this should help up in the next war.

700 tons aren't that much of an improvement, but at least any new DDs we build we can be sure we won't need to use Cramped conditions.

Considering how we destroyed their Destroyers, looks like they're making some MS gunboats for coastal patrol and anti-submarine duty.

We don't have any submarines though.

Our budget is now back up to almost 3.65 million, and we get our first BB in seven months.
Figuring work-up time, that's about nine months before they're ready to use.

Almost two years for the next BB.

We could have fought and delayed the peace for the wartime economy, but nine more months is a significant hassle to getting things done.
We only have so much labor in our yards to go around, and only so much sanity in reserve before Adobo ends up burning most of it away trying to ram herself into a Battleship.

>> CA ADOBO> I would resent that, but there's only like a half-inch of armor difference and only 3,000 tons weight advantage, so... yeah.
>> CA ADOBO> You shouldn't have ended the war so quickly so I could try that!

33.1 Spain - August 1906 to February 1907

Well this is great!

Though our BB BARACO-class are built in Great Britain who already have Quality 0 12 inch guns so not really relevant for our present constructions.
This would be awesome when we resolve to build capital ships locally next time.

I would have been pissed if we were building 12 inch battleships locally and then need to spend even more time in the yards for refit.

Let's have a look at how that works.

In theory for the most part the CA ADOBO-class should be immune to 12 inch shellfire at over 8000 yards...
But it's just that their 8-inch guns would also just plink off at that range.

The "Heavy Cruiser" CA ADOBO class are cruiser destroyers, not pocket battleships.

Six inch guns should not be anywhere close to penetrating eight inch armor plate goddamit.

Hmm.

No, 15,000 tons is really not enough for a pocket battleship.

I have 30 million in the bank anyway, let's do this!

Are those Beyblades or fidget spinners?

Beyblades it is, then.

I'll set up a tournament un momento!

>>CA ADOBO> YEAH!!!!!! LET 'ER RIP!!!!
>>CA FURIOSA> She's still banned from coffee, right?
>>CA LECHON> Yep. That's allllll her.

33.2 Spain - August 1906 to February 1907

The world's moving past us and soon armor designed to defeat 12 inches may no longer be enough.

Let's see it then.

Identical but otherwise inferior to the French COLBERT-class.

We already know about the BB RESOLUTION, why are they building so many of these slowbotes?
Even our six-gun BBs can do 20 knots with eleven inches of armor, although it's the weight difference between 12 and 13 inches that allows that.

We were just there for the prostitutes, honest!

And in exchange you spies seem to have gotten fatter.

Is... is this it?
Can we finally BUILD submarines?!

(We don't have any budget for that while BBs are building unfortunately)

(Italy has increased naval spending)
Given how low our tensions are, that's not good.

I'm going to put my meager income into training instead!

Haha no.
Get out.

3.3 Spain - August 1906 to February 1907

Good. Good.
Soon enough our torpedoes won't have a uselessly short range and would actually be worth firing at ships.

(Now Austria-Hungary is increasing naval spending)
Should I start picking fights with people to get any real funding around here?

Don't worry about it.
All our battle plans basically boil down to yeet into close range and pound the enemy at the point where both our armor values are useless.

Marvelous!
You guys at least are doing great with your budget that I can't increase more than 10% of our total naval income.

CROSS DECK DREADNOUGHT IS A GO!

Let's go to the yard and-

WE STILL DON'T HAVE THE ACTUAL WING TURRET TECHNOLOGY.

33.3 Spain - August 1906 to February 1907
Am I even in the right tech tree for this?

Looks like it.
But maybe it's in Ship Design?

(Austria Hungary has to pause building a BB)
Hah!

But we have a BB sitting in drydock for over half a year now.
Great Britain really ought to be charging us rent.

African Adventure time is a go?

Welcome to the fleet, you big beautiful beauty!

This may be a bit spoilers, but yeah.

I was tempted to make the loadout 6/6/6 12"/8"/6", but what the hey.

>> CA ADOBO>You... look like you got some clipping problems there.
>> CA ADOBO> Queen of the Fleet has her nose turned up so high her mast is floating.

It's... a crown. Yes. That's it.
Totally not a mistake.
It's a feature, not a bug.

>> CA LECHON> Are you Bethesda?
