A Penguin Plays RULE THE WAVES

43.1 Spain - February, March 1909

That's fine. Everyone has terrible torpedoes anyway.

That reminds me - why are we having our BBs built in the UK anyway instead of France?
I just remembered the British ships are supposed to have 'hidden flaws'.

Ah right. Now I remember.
I don't know what an SFAX is, but it was the fear of our warships being accidentally turned into penis ships.

Man you are so eager to please.

Very good.

Two more months, baby.
Two more months!

44.1 Spain - April 1909

Yes!
Come on Barbie let's go party!

>> BB BARBARA> I'm a material girl in a material world.
>> BB BARBARA> Time to loot and plunder.

Good. Good.
Dying in a submarine is one of the most terrifying ways to go.

Cold, coffin of steel
Silent, scratching in the dark
Down, to eldritch depths we go
Crushed by the weight of the world.

Not as big as a problem as well since everybody's got shitty short range subs for now.

Another mine sweeper gone!
How do I stop these old ships from wearing out?!

That was even a Foreign Service ship.
Although that would explain the terrible maintenance.

Let's put Furiosa on Foreign Service.
Fantastica is already in South East Asia, so she might go to Cuba.

MUY BUENO!
We need most of our guns in front anyway, the superimposed X turret is only good for broadsides.

So maybe 3 gun forward turret + 2 gun midships + 2 gun aft.

What.

Another mine sweeper gone!
How do I stop these old ships from wearing out?!
You see in your list of ships in service how some of them are marked with (o) next to the year they were built? That signifies the ship is getting old, and needs to undergo refit to continue service. The cheapest, fastest refit option is sometimes called a blank refit, and doesn't update any of the onboard machinery.

Right-click on the ship, select open design for refit, then immediately save the design that opens without making changes. You can now refit existing ships to the new design, which will take several months and remove the (o) tag.

41.1 WAR! - Spain vs Italy - Cruiser Action off Eastern Spain

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

It's FURIOSA.

Wait, aren't you on Foreign Service?
Why are here and not Cuba?!

>> CL FURIOSA> I'm furious that I won't get to hunt the enemy.

I see.

Wait, that's not a DD.

It shouldn't be a match for FURIOSA anyway.

You're only about as fast as each other though.

By heedlessly going north at max speed while forcing CA FURIOSA to turn, the CL BRINDISI-class was able to extend the range.

>> CA FURIOSA> It's not a problem.

>> CA FURIOSA> Ok this might be a problem.

41.2 WAR! - Spain vs Italy - Cruiser Action off Eastern Spain

Just keep on that BRINDISI, ignoring all considerations!

>> CA FURIOSA> Aye aye, admiral.

>> CA FURIOSA> Closing range.

>> CA FURIOSA> This is a tricky one, going north and then south again.
>> CA FURIOSA> Spotted unknown ships.

It's just the DD squadron from before, don't worry about it.

Ohohoho NOPE.

41.3 WAR! - Spain vs Italy - Cruiser Action off Eastern Spain

>> CA FURIOSA> Maybe they didn't see us yet.
>> CA FURIOSA> Admiral... I really don't want to disengage just yet.

How can they NOT have seen us -

Okay. Okay.
This might not be as bad as it seems.

Bs are deadly, but they are also SLOW.
Keep to the North-West, and the moment you see them start to turn, break GTFO at full speed to the East.

>>CA FURIOSA> Thank you, admiral!

Well crap.

>> CA FURIOSA> Nooooooooo.

Wait, this is a good thing!

Whew.

41.4 AFTER ACTION REPORT - Spain vs Italy - Cruiser Action off Eastern Spain

Well that could have gone much worse.

>> CA FURIOSA> Boo.
>> CA FURIOSA> Boo, I say.

That wasn't a B after all, but four Armored Cruisers are nowhere a Fast Raider Cruiser should be.

There was a short chase starting from 18:00 hours or 6 PM.

But at around 20:00 or 8 PM no one could see anything so everybody just went home.

Inconclusive, but there's victory enough in wasting their time.

That's fine.

>> CA FURIOSA> If it was day, I could have tried to sink at least one ship before breaking off.

Maybe next time.

it's time to war-emergency convert some fishing trawlers into minesweepers. You lose them at the end of the war, but there's literally nothing cheaper.

43.1 WAR! - Spain vs Italy - June 1909

How does that even make sense!

It's not just tonnage but numbers that matter.

Then explain the previous action, in which CA FURIOSA at 6300 tons faced off alone against 4 CA, 2CL, 4 DD, and 11 LT!

Friendly ships got lost in home waters.

Sounds legit.

Ugh. We have no hope of dealing with the Patrol Requirement situation.

So let's just put LECHON into Foreign Service and out of everyone's way.

With friends like these, who needs enemies?

>> CA LECHON> HEY.

Continue.

44.2 WAR! - Spain vs Italy - Raid on Coastal Installations on the Straits of Messina

>> BB BARACO> (is hit)

>> BB BARACO> It's nothing.
>> BB BARACO> Ruffled my hat a little bit.

You sure about that?

>> BB BARACO> Apparently 9 inch guns are considered Medium Guns.

>> BB BARACO> Let me show you how it's done.
>> BB BARACO> ** hits with all goddamn weapons in one barrage*

>> 9-inch Coastal Battery> ** is frakked **

>> BB BARBARA> ** participation ribbon **

Well dang.

>> BB BARACO> It's on fire.

>> BB BARACO> It's done.
>> BB BARACO> What else you got?

Well you could... try sailing around the island, see if you can hit that other land-based gun battery?

>> BB BARACO> Sure.
>> BB BARACO> There were no ships to hit around Trapani anyway.

Woops we didn't make it.

But that was a pretty conclusive effort, don't you think?

44.2 AFTER ACTION REPORT - Spain vs Italy - Raid on Coastal Installations on the Straits of Messina

WHAT.

The fuck where else could it be?!

YOU OVERBOILED PASTAS!

>> BB BARACO> Yeah that sounds... odd.

INTEL A SHITE!

>> BB BARBARA> It would make sense that there should be shore guns overlooking the important strait though.

>> BB BARACO> But anyone could just sail around Sicily.
>> BB BARACO> If anyone really needed to attack Southern Italy, they could land troops anywhere and take it by land instead.

>> BB BARACO> Maybe we should have turned for Messina instead.
>> BB BARACO> Trapani didn't have anything interesting, all the ships were around Messina.

Better than nothing, I suppose.

>> BB BARBARA> What a mess.

Well at least the game started you on the right side of the island this time, just bad luck you sailed in the wrong direction. Seems like Sicily actions demand checking the straight for the objective, regardless of how nonsense its placement might be.

45.1 WAR! - Spain vs Italy - July 1909

ADOBO, ADOBE, explain to me why any mere CA could thwart your efforts.

>> CA ADOBE> We both encountered it alone, so it engaged each of us while allowing merchant ships to flee and then disengaged as well.
>> CA ADOBE> ADOBO's bloodthirstiness for sinking a capital ship worked against us.

>> CA ADOBO> Feh. So what if I ignore little fish to get the big fish?

And your failing here is?

CA ADOBE> Excessive conservatism.
CA ADOBE> I was trying to find the 'zone of immunity' where its 10-inch guns could only deflect upon my belt while my guns would punch through its 3 1/2 belt.
CA ADOBE> Unfortunately, because it was identified as an Armored Cruiser, I was using AP instead of HE against such a comparatively thin-skinned craft.

Fair enough.
You may go.

All right so how are we doing?
Well we're not losing, at least.

Let's run some combat drills so the boys don't freeze up in an actual fight.

So let's build some hulls in a hurry.
We can afford it, fortunately.

Go on.

Ugh.

The only thing we can do is hit them as hard as they hit us.
Most of our trade happens outside of Gibraltar, the Mediterranean is an after-thought.

We can sustain this longer than the Italian economy can.

No one's Cruisers are as good as our Cruisers.
Fight me!
