A Little Trouble in Big China - A Chinese Warlord Quest

[X] Support: Long Jiguang
[X] Plan Southern Tiger: Whereas historically Long Jiguang fled from the south towards Beijing, TTL he shall remain in his historic powerbase of Guangdong, refusing to flee from Sun Yat-Sen. Relying on his lieutenant Ye Ju, Long Jiguang will rule from the city of Canton (Guangzhou) and cement his influence at the head of a Guangdong Clique, inviting support from anyone willing to oppose Sun Yat-Sen. Likewise, he will recognize whatever Beiyang authority is established, remaining fairly neutral in regards to national politics.

Have the media, as in newspaper reporters and film crews and stenographers recording everything that happens, to ensure that any fallout that happens from any walkout or bad thing happening will be fact based, not Trumpland fantasy propaganda.

It's 1916...

[X] Expand control over criminal underworld, particularly in and around Shanghai.

I played as the Legation Cities in Kaiserreich, so I'm interested in seeing how Du Yuesheng does.

[X] Plan Creating a power base : The Guomindang shall take steps to secure the areas around Canton while also creating the first nucleus of the National Revolutionary Army. Considering Comrade Sun's frail health all efforts must be made to create a chain of succession should the worst happen. Contacts must also be made with other Republican factions in order to coordinate our efforts against the Imperialists.

-[x] Plan seize all gun: Push for immediate control of Yuan's remaining army via bribery, assassination, and other underhanded methods. Then collaborate with Russia and Japanese for arms and light industry in exchange of selling out uncontrolled areas.

KMT and CCP had their shine in RL, I now want to see an alternate outcome. ;)

Shame we start off in the warring period, but I suppose it's not much of a game with Yuan or Dowager alive. Them OP yo.

Approval voting. :V

The entire conference idea seems kinda... out there? These leaders all have power based in their particular areas and are at their most vulnerable when away. There's a reason why Yuan Shikai moved the capital city from Nanjing to Beijing where he had all his military power concentrated, you know?

The media's not really the point, there's not really any neutral ground in China nor neutral corridors of travel. Agreeing to go on such a trip would be suicide for most candidates and quite possibly lead to ambitious underlings launching a coup in their absence even if it they survived the trip without an issue.

That's my thinking, pre-dead Yuan Shikai or pre-Revolutionary Qing would've been more appropriate to a traditionally styled CKII quest then the type I'm running now. Also just confirming your vote is the "approval voting" vote.

Also I'm loving this discussion everyone, it makes being a QM that much more enjoyable.

For people supporting Sun, you may want to add a blurb to have him form a dependable loyal and core; while considering his weaker health.

Getting the Whampoa Military academy in order seems better than than the conference farce.

What about 1916 is related to having the conference recorded as many times as possible in as many media formats as possible?
There's not really an established "media" in China, nor would I think it'd really matter. Power is derived from military support and warlordism, not particularly any sort of rule of law or honor. In the unlikely event that anyone but Sun's own followers attend this meeting, even if they flagrantly defied their statements, I don't think really anyone would have that information.

Chinese peasants, or soldiers, doubtfully even officers, would be voracious media consumers in 1916; there's not really much media at all. Some of them are actually illiterate bandits. Uh, I mean glorious protectors and men of honor.
