A Catgirl's Last Chance for High School Romance - COMPLETE

Oh, so I'm a little worried people are rather intimidated by the write-in option. There's no need to be. If you think of something, even if it sounds stupid in your head, just put it out here - it may not seem like it, but it helps.

Just, uh don't throw in anything deliberately senseless or malicious, please. You know, things like asking everyone on the baseball team whether Satou's gay or not.

I was kind of worried, too, honestly ^^; Honestly, even if it feels kinda silly throw it out there. This is supposed to be some light-hearted slice-of-life hijinks.

Phase one
Akane should approach Satou and see if he'd be interested in hanging out as friends. Don't lead him on, obv. The goal here is to find out if he likes guys, not our freshly minted lesbian.
Mari can see if she can find out what kinds of activities he enjoys
Hanyako is in charge of organising things for the hangout

Phase the second one
Hanyako's job here is to not be awkward.
Akane should talk to him about sports and stuff, idk.
Mari is the hyper-competent social butterfly if anyone can carefully insinuate that he's in a safe space and might be gay it'd be her.

Phase Profit
Hopefully we find out which way Satou bats
If not, see 'Phase Panic' below.

Phase Panic
See if we can swipe his phone and get Erika to unlock it. If it's anything like a normal smart phone his finger should've actually smeared the unlock pattern onto it. Then, we check his messages or something Idk.

This is more a draft of a plan, I'm eager to see any criticism of it because I banged this out in under a minute.

I would have made my own write in instead of periodically refreshing the page in hopes someone makes one, but i don't have a single creative bone in my body, so eh :V

I'm a few threadmarks behind and have no clue what's going on, due to certain circumstances, but I'm sure voting blindly without any context until I can catch up, is in no way a terrible idea that will end in tears! :D

[X] Operation Gaybois: Modified to remove Phase Panic because swiping someone's phone is just slightly sketchy.

I feel like going too much into planning here will end up ironing out the mistakes that make this kind of development both hilarious and awful. Also, I just got back from my friend's wedding, so the only plan I can think of right now is 'get Jesse list all of the people Satou knows and ask if he likes them until he gives in'. Which may or may not have actually been a thing that happened. Hence I'm just going to sit here for a bit and watch.

I mean, as bad as my plan was I think the basic idea is sound. We need a better panic option than theft though.

I mean there's a few reasons I'm not really adding much to the plan

1. I genuinely do bandwagon on write-ins because I suck at them except in special cases, that wasn't a lie

2. I feel like in this sort of quest especially, players get too risk-averse. I do this too in a lot of quests but I think there are places where it makes sense- an actiony Madoka quest where everything can be on the line due to a mistake in battle or a horrible social choice- and... here, where it's a dramatic quest but one that's probably going to be at least a little forgiving and also is simply far more organic and there is probably going to be lesser punishments for the slightest thing going wrong. Like in many ways I think this is a very human quest (for lack of a better way to put it), given that it's all about a young woman discovering herself and her orientation and that effecting her life, but also just because... because it's that kind of quest, if we don't act really stupid, I don't see the hammer coming down on us for some slight screw-up. And in some ways coming up with a plan like this your first time and not necessarily having it be perfect or having a good backup plan just... makes sense?

Like, nothing wrong with cleaning things up and tightening knots if you see a gaping hole but it's also okay to just like... chill and see what happens, you know?

Finally catching up!

"I just wanted to make sure. I mean, you did run out on the family, after all. And don't look at me like that, I know you said you had already agreed but family is important and you could have just canceled. Anyway--We went out to the lake yesterday and that was a lovely time. I'm sorry you missed it. And really, you will be too some day. Grandmother and grandfather aren't getting younger and they could be gone soon. Then what will you do, hm? Besides that, I was worried sick about you. Sleeping in a tent with people like that--what if she had decided to take a fancy to you? She didn't do anything to you, did she?" You can feel the anxiety in your belly starting to build up more towards anger, a sick, unhappy feeling that makes you wish you could scream. It's not like that, you want to say. Sayaka is like a sister to me. But you can't say that. So you don't. Your mom takes your silence as permission to continue. Not that she needs it from you.

"Also that new friend of yours? The Yamada girl? I wasn't sure what to think about her. She seemed so foreign. Your father seemed to think thought she was alright but she just gave me a weird feeling. What did she want hanging out with a high schooler when she's going into university? The only boys I knew when I was your age who hung out with high school girls were after one thing and she's probably just the same. Honestly, I don't think you should be hanging around these types of people it makes me so nervous for you, Hanako..."
It's probably for the best that I wound up missing this voting cycle
Because my first instinct would have been to punch her face in

As you tumble into the meeting room, you come up short, shocked, and the others end up piling into the back of you.

"Hanako, what the heck--" Mari starts, but you cut her off with your surprised cry.

"Akane?!"
I knew it!

"You've convinced me, okay? I'm in." Erika looks a little distraught by the idea but nods.

"Okay, okay. I'll help. Just don't hurt anyone, okay?" You grin.

"Hey, you know me! I'm always careful." Erika snorts and rolls her eyes.

"More like always nervous."

"Erika I'm gonna hold you down and tickle you."

"Don't be mad because I tell the truth!"
Uh, I couldn't quite tell who was supposed to be talking here. There's the "You've convinced me, okay?" From Erika, but then the "Okay okay I'll help" seems weird, because Hanako was the one to suggest the plan in the first place, and Erika had already expressed reluctant agreement, so who's even speaking here, and the lines following?

Also a cat and so therefore good at sneaking in theory.
Wasn't Akane a fox?

Hanako's face flashes across your mind, her long hair, black and silky, flowing down her back like a river of night. Your face starts to burn for entirely different reasons than the rest of your body.
Yessssss

Yuno steps into your mind, her long brown hair tied into a messy plait which travels down past her waist. She's smiling softly, smiling at you. There's a smear of dirt across her cheek, and in your mind's eye, she giggles, adjusting the fit of her sunhat.

Your cheeks burn, and this time, you do notice. Slowing to a halt, you try and rub away your blush, but it refuses to go.
Well
I'm okay with this too

That's my mistake. I added an extra line that I didn't need to so there's an orphan line of dialogue. I'm gonna go back and fix that.

Nope, she's always been a cat, even in my author's notes. You might be thinking of one of the girls in the Occult Studies club.

[X] Plan simple

Put a note in his locker, "I have a gay friend who wants to confess to you. Does he have a chance? Wear red tomorrow if yes, blue if no"

Or an appropriate accessory.

This has the benefit of not only knowing whether he is gay, but also whether he's open to a gay relationship, which is a different story.

And it's all safely under the radar, too.

Sure I'll tie it. I like the plan, simple, subtle, not too hard to come up with, doesn't link to us directly in any way, and very likely to be effective while still leaving the door open for things to go wrong or evolve from this starting point.

58. Making it happen
Mari speaks up immediately.

"Okay, what if we invited him out to hang out. Akane, you both like sports, that should be enough to make a connection, right? And then when we get him kind of alone in a safe space I can try to wheedle which way he bats," she snortgiggles for a moment. "Ha. Bats. Get it? Anyway, I can try and get it out of him then!"

You scratch behind an ear and Akane and Erika both look... less than enthused. Erika speaks up first.

"Ah, that sounds kind of over-complicated to me. Plus if Akane just approaches him out of the blue, won't it seem like a confession? I think we want to like, avoid miscommunication as much as possible on this don't we? I mean..." She glances at Akane sheepishly.

"Miscommunication can really mess things up," Erika concludes. Akane nods in agreement.

"Just because we both play sports doesn't meant that we're gonna hit it off, Mari. I'm with Erika on this--simple is better. I just wish I had a better idea of what that means here. This is complicated, you know?" Akane says. You heave a small sigh, then glance at Mari.

"Remember what happened last time you tried some convoluted way of getting two people together, Mari?" You ask. Mari huffs and crosses her arms, looking a little put off by the universal condemnation of her plan.

"I didn't know you were gay, sheesh! And I said I was sorry." You hold your hands up to try and placate Mari.

"It's okay, it's okay. We're just saying that complicated might not be the best way to go here. And straight forward. Though knowing how I felt I do feel kind of weird about just straight up asking him." There are some murmurs of assent as it's collectively decided that you all need to go back to the drawing board on this one. Silence for a few minute as everyone does their best to think of an alternative plan. Finally, Erika breaks the silence by speaking up.

"...What about a note?" Everyone looks at her and she clears her throat before continuing. "I mean, a note is anonymous, it's simple, it doesn't expose him to like... being asked weird questions in public. It might be the best thing to do. Assuming he actually replies to it. We'd just need some way of getting a reply. Maybe ask him to wear something? I dunno."

"That's great!" Mari beams. "It'd be perfect!"

"...Better than any of my ideas," Akane says with a lopsided grin. "I guess we should give it a shot."

The four of you put your heads together around the tabe and spend the next few minutes arguing back and forth about the wording of the note. Mari, as always, wants something a bit flowery. Erika argues for something straightforward and simple. Akane, like you, doesn't seem to have much of a preference either way. Finally though, simplicity seems to win out and the end result is a fairly straightforward note.

You don't know me but I know a boy who really wants to confess to you. He's too nervous to do it, though! Does he have a chance? If the answer is yes, wear something red tomorrow.

There's no signature on the note, but Mari's girly handwriting and rather pastel stationary make it almost look like some sort of confession letter. You sit back and rest on your hands. Hopefully this works out and you'll be helping someone out! You look around the circle for a moment, then Mari pipes up.

"So, who's going to deliver it to his locker?"

[ ] Hanako will do it! Let no one say that you're a scaredy-cat. Besides, all you need to do is time it so that he's not there to see you do it. Or anyone else because awkward questions are the worst. Though what if someone does see you? Hmm...
[ ] Erika. She's a year younger, small, and people aren't likely to pay a lot of attention to her (sorry, Erika). She can slip over and put the note in his locker without anyone being the wiser! Though as a reluctant member of the team, she might not want to do the delivery.
[ ] Mari, take the lead. She has so much confidence and easy-breezy attitude that no one's going to think twice of her, no matter where she is or what she's doing. Besides, she's way into this. On the other hand she might be a little too noticeable considering how she always seems to have someone with her or a ind word for others.
[ ] Akane is a cat. She's athletic. She can do it quickly and quietly and no one will notice. Besides, she's sporty and who's going to notice if one sporty person is near another sporty person's locker? It's the perfect camouflage! But she's also, well, kinda tall which makes her kinda stand out if Satou starts asking around about who was near his locker.
[ ] Group effort. If you all go together you're bound by blood oath able to be more flexible and make changes to the plan on the spot if you need to, since everyone is there to help. But a group might be the most noticeable of all, if you're not careful.

Hi everyone. Sorry for the short update, but I wanted to get my momentum going again after such a long break. Plus I have a cold. :( In any case, I hope this little tidbit holds you up and reminds you that yes, I'm alive and looking to get back into the swing of things. <3

Mari can probably most easily use the cover that she is delivering the note for someone else, since she very openly has a boyfriend.
