A Catgirl's Last Chance for High School Romance - COMPLETE

[x] Just. Sit here in silence. It's better not to say anything now that she's going and if you stare out the window hard enough, maybe she'll get tired of hearing her own voice and shut up and you can just try and remember that you were supposed to be having fun this weekend.

Yeah, I know the type of talking that's happening right now. There's simply no winning like this; to Hanako's mom right now, if you're not in total agreement with her, you're wrong, and if you speak up against any of what she says, you're double wrong. If you actually explode and start arguing - or heaven's forbid, screaming - then you're so wrong that you deserve everything she can give you. Best to just shut up, ignore the homophobe, let her talk all she wants until she looses steam. If Hanako says anything, she'll just gain more steam, and getting in a actual fight about any of it means that she'll go full bore on us. Hold it in, and vent safely elsewhere.

[X] Shut up, Mom. Just SHUT UP! DO YOU EVEN KNOW THEM? OR HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT? NO? THEN SHUT UP! I can't believe you! These people are my friends! Sayaka is my friend! And if I'm being honest, she's supported me through more stuff recently than YOU have!

Jeez people, while I understand the anger reactions, no need to out ourselves to her right at the worst possible time, when emotions are high and people are likely to lash out in anger. There's unloading ourselves and then there's just shooting ourselves on the foot.

Give her nothing to talk to. Take a nap. A catnap

God, this one hurts to post and honestly, if anyone can convince me that hanako being brave in the next update wont just result in pain and suffering for her I'd change it to anger any day because I want Hanako to be brave and fight back but....
Sometimes sitting there in silence is the only thing that keeps you able to fight another day.

As cathartic as the alternative would be, it's also a terrible idea. Damage control for now, worry about pushing back later.

[... Mostly jk] The next time the car comes to a stop, get out and walk away. She probably won't even notice.

*Parachutes into thread*

Here I am. To save the day!

It's not going to win but from a personal and take-on-character perspective I can't in good conscience vote for anything else.

Yeah there's no winning with our Mother but I think it needs to be made clear that she's hurting us with her words in a way that she can't brush aside, even if it's going to make things worse in the short term.

Agreed. You have to set boundaries or people will walk over you. Accusing our friends of that with only their orientation as an argument definitely cross those.

57. Stuck in the middle with you.
You sink back into your seat and try to block out your Mom's voice. She just keeps talking at you. Over you. Around you. It makes you feel sick but you know that arguing with her won't do you any good. As much as you'd like to yell and scream and try and make her see why she's wrong right now you know she'd just shove past anything you say. And you might make things awkward or she might ask questions that you don't want to be stuck answering, so you just let her talk.

"Anyway, now that it's out of the way I think there's more productive things you can do with your time. At least you're getting paid for this--send them a nice note saying thank you for the opportunity and then you can get back to focusing on your schoolwork." You stay quiet. You don't have an answer for her--you don't want to answer her, even. It's too much to think about, too much to feel twisted up and unhappy over. So you just let it wash over you. She's quiet for a moment, as if expecting you to answer, then she tries to press on with the conversation.

"Ah, next month is the company's birthday. It's going to be a family thing, so we're all going to be going along. I know it's not the most exciting thing for you but you can meet people, maybe make some connections for when you go to university. That sort of thing is important these days, you know? And there's someone I think you should meet. It'll be fun!" Fun isn't the way you'd describe this sort of thing but saying you don't want to go isn't going to get you anywhere, so you keep your mouth shut. Which doesn't seem to deter your mother.

"You're a good daughter, Hanako. I feel like I can rely on you to tell me everything. And you do know you can tell me everything, right? No matter what it is, I always want to be here for you if you need advice or just a hug..." She continues talking. It's just more of what she's already said repeated in different ways and it makes you feel... tired. So you stay quiet, staring out the window. Soon enough (it could be five minutes or an hour later, you don't know or care) she finally stops going on how about how she's concerned for you and just wants you to be careful. The rest of the drive you sit in stony silence, pointedly refusing to respond to any of her questions or comments about the drive, the trip, or really anything else. She seems frustrated by the time you get home, but she hasn't confronted you.

As soon as the car stops, you jump out, grab your things, and scramble inside without a word. Your dad greets you with a warm 'hello' but you brush past him, barely stopping to take off your shoes before you scramble upstairs and into your bedroom. You're safe up here and you can just try to let things wash over you. You can hear muffled conversation downstairs but not any of what's being said. Not that you feel like you really care right now. You cover your face with an arm, not wanting to stare at the ceiling but not wanting to bury your head in a pillow right now. As you lay there, quiet, your phone makes a soft noise and lights up. A text from Sayaka.

Thanks again for all your help, Hanako! We couldn't have done it without you! <3

The message brings a little smile back to your lips. Maybe things are gonna be okay? It feels good to know that you're helping, even in little ways. It's a little recharge after that long, long drive with your mom and it's a relief to know that things are okay outside of that little bubble. Maybe things are going to be okay in the end.

You pointedly avoid bringing up the topic with your mom at all over the next few days and do your best to vanish any time she seems about to bring it up. Eventually, she seems to give up on it and you feel better by the time Thursday rolls around and you're headed back to Live Out Loud for the last meeting before school starts again next week. You, Erika, and Mari (very tan from a trip down south) all spend the train ride chatting about the summer holidays so far and then shove your way into the blessed relief of the building's air conditioning. As you tumble into the meeting room, you come up short, shocked, and the others end up piling into the back of you.

"Hanako, what the heck--" Mari starts, but you cut her off with your surprised cry.

"Akane?!" You stumble forward as Mari gives you a shove to clear the doorway. Akane is indeed sitting there, sprawled in one of the chairs looking lanky and athletic as ever. She gives a lop-sided, weak grin and waggles her fingers at the three of you. Her cheeks are a little pink. She must not have expected to see any of you.

"Oh, hey all of you. Uh..." She trails off and then Mari lets out a little squeal.

"Akane! What are you doing here?" Akane's face takes on an even redder color and she rubs the back of her neck awkwardly.

"Um." She frowns and looks down for a moment, gathering her thoughts. "I talked with Hanako? Like before the break? And some of the stuff she said kind of... stuck with me. And I went looking online and... there was this place so I decided to come give it a look? ANd see if it was the right place for me?" Mari drags you and Erika across the room and piles you all onto the same couch with Akane before you can say anything else. It's a tight squeeze and Erika ends up practically in your lap. Not that you mind, even if it's kind of warm today...

"That's so cool!" Mari chatters. "I'm glad you're figuring yourself out!" Mari is so... positive. It's hard not to smile when she's around. Erika is trying not to laugh and not doing a very good job, so she hides her face in your shoulder. You roll your eyes and nudge Mari.

"Give her some space. When I first came here I was super nervous. I wasn't even sure if I was gay." It sounds like it was forever ago instead of a few months. Weird. Mari pouts, sticking out her lower lip.

"Okay, okay..." Akane gives a little smile.

"Um, yeah. I dunno. I think I might... have a crush on a girl. Like a serious one." She chews on her lip. "I'm still working it out, you know? But I'm going to take my time with it. See how I feel." You nod across Mari.

"That's the best thing to do. Do what feels good to you, right?" As you speak, something clicks in your head and you sit up straighter. "Oh! That's right! I wanted to ask you all for your help!" That gets everyone's attention and all of them look at you expectantly. You glance around--you're a little early, and it's summer so not a lot of people are here and Jesse is (fortunately) absent at baseball training camp this week.

"...It's about Jesse." You start.

"Jesse? The kid in the baseball club?" Akane asks. You nod.

"He's got it bad for Satou, his upperclassman? But he's too nervous to do anything about it. He's really afraid of putting himself out there, which I totally get. So... I was thinking we could do some research for him." Erika looks dubious, Akane tilts her head, ears akimbo, and Mari lets out an excited squeal.

"Yes! Yes, definitely! We have to help him, okay? What do you want us to do? Oh, gosh..." She's... enthusiastic. You take a breath and Erika hugs you a little tighter.

"...Are you sure this is a good idea?" Erika, the voice of caution. "We don't want to accidentally out anyone. Even Satou, if he does like guys. Which we don't know for sure." Akane gives a little nod.

"Erika's right on that one. Though, I do know that Satou has turned down like, every girl who's ever asked him out. I had to comfort a couple girls on the volleyball squad after they were rejected. So, there's that."

"Yeah, but that could just mean that he's not interested in dating or just. You know. Really likes baseball." Mari scoffs.

"I think that's enough for us to go on. We just need to figure out the best way to do some sleuthing on him! C'mon, we have to do this for poor Jesse. The guy is suffering!" You cross your arms, looking at the others with the fire of challenge in your eyes.

"You've convinced me, okay? I'm in," Akane says with a laugh. Erika looks a little distraught by the idea but nods.

"Okay, okay. I'll help. Just don't hurt anyone, okay?" You grin at your girlfriend's admonishment.

"Hey, you know me! I'm always careful," you reply with a confident smirk. Erika snorts and rolls her eyes.

"More like always nervous."

"Erika I'm gonna hold you down and tickle you."

"Don't be mad because I tell the truth!"

"Okay, lovebirds. We get it, you're cute. But how are we going to figure out the best way to figure out Satou?" Mari breaks in with the real questions.

"Good question. Let's talk about it after the meeting, maybe?" You look up as others start filtering in and the others all nod in agreement. After the meeting, the four of you retreat to Mari's house to try and figure out your plan of action. Her room is bright, colorful, and girly and you're all crammed in with you and Erika sitting on the bed, Akane on the floor and Mari perched in her desk chair.

"Okay. Let's figure this out..."

So this vote is going to be a write-in for a plan of action on how to do some sleuthing when it comes to figuring out ya boi Jesse's crush. Keep in mind that your team is four high school girls and none of them are super hackers or ninjas. Also important is that each of the girls is going to have their own input on the ideas and aren't just going to do what Hanako tells them to do. Aside from Hanako, your team is:

Erika - Hanako's girlfriend, a bit of a reluctant participant. Computer nerd and not very social.

Mari - Hanako's best friend since grade school. Social butterfly, eager to help, and considers herself quite the matchmaker. Knows a LOT of people at school even just in passing.

Akane - Fellow gay(?). Sporty girl who has friends in the school's athletic clubs and has a good rapport with them, which might help with information gathering. Also a cat and so therefore good at sneaking in theory.

Omake - This school is gayer than I thought pt. II
A Week and a Half Previous, as Hanako is hanging out with Kaylee...

Your name is Suzumi Akane and you're currently lying on your bed, thinking. Not to say that you don't think normally, but you don't really get this introspective that often. Given the events of the past day, however, you feel that maybe getting to know yourself a little better might be important…

---

Hanako exhales sharply and you look at her expectantly.

"...Hanako? Earth to Hanako...?" She blinks and looks up at you. Wow, she was really spacing out there, wasn't she? She tries to smile, the expression coming out as more of a grimace, and glances around the two of you for a moment.

"Oh! Sorry. Got lost in my own head for a minute. Um..." She's hesitant, very hesitant. Was it something you said? Are you not as good friends as you originally thought? She studies your face, considering something, before she evidently comes to a decision. Hanako takes a deep breath and glances around again, as if to make sure no one would overhear what she's about to say. You really hope you haven't overestimated the friendship you have with her… And shakes her head.

"...I can't go, I'm so sorry Akane." She gives you a small bow, and you feel the flush on your cheeks; this is a little embarrassing. "It's really kind of complicated, but I'll do my best. Um..." You wait patiently for her to continue. So, there's a good reason for this? She really is your friend? Relief floods your chest, but now there's that niggling core of worry, as well as a small amount of confusion and just a little bit of hurt at her declining your invitation. But Hanako is a friend, after all, and you care about her well-being. After a moment, her ears flatten against her head, and she shakes herself, as if trying to dislodge some fluff caught in her mind.

"You can't? Why?" You frown and cross your arms, prompting Hanako whilst trying best not to come off as too put out.

"It's... okay, this is going to like. Sound weird, but... Um.." She appears to be psyching herself up, looking very nervous now as it appears at least a part of her is trying to talk herself out of what she's about to say.

"...I have a girlfriend," she mutters so quietly that even your keen ears have a hard time hearing. Surprise and confusion hit you, and you blink, flicking back an ear. The confusion washes away most of the hurt your felt at her declining your invitation. Hanako looks apprehensive, waiting for your reply. You shift you weight back on one heel as you try and process this information.

Your mouth, however, has other plans: "Wait, really? You do?" You can't keep the surprise out of your voice, "...You didn't strike me as the type, Hanako." A smile tugs at the corners of your mouth as you imagine Hanako with shorter hair. That's how lesbians wear their hair, right?

"Huh? What's that mean?!" Her cheeks redden slightly. It appears your reaction took her off-guard, was she expecting you to react differently?

You decide to try and explain: "...You're not that boyish. I mean, I have shorter hair than you." To try and prove your point, you run your hand through your hair, which is much shorter than Hanako's rather cute hairstyle, almost as short as some boys you know, though you honestly keep it like this because longer hair is much harder to take care of with your active lifestyle. Not that you don't make an effort to try and make it at least a little cute though.

"I--Are you supposed to be boyish? If you like girls?" Hanako's question makes you pause. Do you? Now that you think about it, maybe they don't? You've never really thought about it before…

"Um. I guess not. Sorry." You laugh and rub the back of your neck. "...So I'm guessing you think she'd be jealous if you went to dinner with the volleyball captain." Hanako blinks. Seems like you guessed right, and that she didn't expect you to. She gives you a little nod and looks down at her feet.

"Ah. Yeah." You smile and look away from her. A very slight blush colours your cheeks. Assuming such a thing was rather silly in hindsight.

"I totally get that. I'd probably feel the same way," You laugh a little awkwardly, then hurriedly add: "...I mean. Not that I'm into girls that way." Hanako looks like she wants to say something, and looks a little put out by whatever it is.

---

Which leads you back to the present moment, lying on your bed, thinking rather hard about some things.

"...I mean. Not that I'm into girls that way"

That sentence swirls around your mind, as if taunting you. But it's true, isn't it? You aren't into girls like that…

Are you?

It's not really a subject you've ever really thought about if you're being quite honest with yourself. You've always been too caught up with volleyball, and your studies, and gardening at school during your breaks. You never really thought about it…

---

Volleyball had ended early due to the heat. Some of your teammates had decided that going to get ice cream was the appropriate response to the weather, and while you kinda wish you'd gone with them, the endless sun couldn't be good for the plants around the school.

You grinned to yourself. Besides, maybe you'd finally be able to meet the mystery gardener who'd been doing such amazing work recently. Ever since they'd started, the weeds around the school had quickly vanished, and the flowers themselves had bloomed with almost explosive force. Whoever it was, they had a green thumb, and an uncanny ability to remain anonymous.

You'd thought about going to see Arakawa-sensei to get the name of the mystery gardener, but it was kind of fun to try and hunt them down yourself.

Your kitbag hefted over one shoulder, you turn the corner into the courtyard tulips had suddenly sprung up in, and stopped.

There she was.

Shorter than you by a fair margin, long hair tied back into a braid, the mystery gardener was weeding the flower-beds with practiced motions. Her movements efficient and swift as she tossed weed after weed into the bucket at her side.

Thanks to her large sun-hat, you can't see her face, and she seems so engrossed in her task, she doesn't notice your approach. "So you're the one!" You blurt out, and immediately wince as she nearly tumbles face-first into her flowers.

"I'm the one who what?" She replies, her voice bearing at least a small amount of annoyance and impatience. You grimace as you realise that you probably deserved that. You did nearly make her fall into the flowers she'd worked so hard to raise, after all.

Still, you feel the need to reply, to compliment her skill: "The one who basically transformed this part of the school." The mystery girl huffs quietly, and clambers to her feet, turning to face you as she does.

As she catches sight of your face, her head tilting upwards as she looks you in the eye, her eyes widen behind her glasses, and you try to remember her name. You're sure you've seen her around before… "S-suzumi-sempai?" she stammers, blinking in shock as her face starts to turn red, "W-w-what are you doing here?"

Tanikawa Yuno! That was it! The one Tsujii-chan, one of your juniors, was always talking about…

---

Thinking back on it now, you realise that Tanikawa Yuno, what with her reactions to your presence when you first started helping her with the school gardens directly, probably has a crush on you.

"So girls can like other girls without being boyish…" You murmur. Yuno-chan was basically the opposite of boyish, after all.

Most of the boys you know are athletes though, and were nearly all tall and well-muscled, their hair cut short as if to emphasise their manliness. You realise that not all boys are like that though. But those were the ones you had to work with.

Hanako was also rather unlike them. Though she is skinnier than Yuno, not that that wasn't appealing in its own way…

But what about boys? You hum to yourself slightly as you think on some of the boys you know. Like Hanako, they were appealing in their own way. You could appreciate the effort some of them had put into their training.

That was it, however. You didn't feel particularly attracted to them, though you feel like maybe you should be? That's what normal girls were into, right?

Your mind wanders, and you think about your teammates, the other girls in the volley-ball team. Again, you could appreciate their hard work, and their bodies were aesthetically pleasing, but you didn't feel all that attracted to them either. They were your friends, not potential romantic interests.

But then, who were you into? Did you just not like anyone?

Sighing, you press the heels of your palms into your face. This was complex, a subjective problem which didn't present an immediate answer. Rolling to the side, you slide off your bed and onto your feet, going to where you kept your running gear.

Maybe it'd help to run for a bit, to clear your head before dinner…

---

You run until your legs burn, and you don't notice.

You pause to do press-ups, tricep dips, sit-ups and squat thrusts, working til your arms ache and your stomach feels tight, and you don't notice.

Your mind feels like a swirling vortex, dragging all your thoughts towards this one, all-consuming problem.

Do you like anyone? Anyone at all?

Those like you, the boys and girls you knew who were into sports and fitness, they were admirable, and impressive in their own way, but you didn't feel attracted to them.

But then, you knew of a couple boys in your class who weren't into that sort of thing, and they weren't attractive either.

You push yourself harder, speeding up. Your breathing is rough and strained, but even. Sweat runs down your forehead, your torso, soaking into your clothes.

Your limbs burn with exertion, and you don't notice.

So what did you like?

Hanako's face flashes across your mind, her long hair, black and silky, flowing down her back like a river of night. Your face starts to burn for entirely different reasons than the rest of your body.

As you continue to run, you see her smile, her penchant for the dramatic, her sheer friendliness. You find she's cute, and interesting, and that is attractive.

Slowing, your hands finding the back of your head as you stretch out, catching your breath. The vision in your mind flips to show you Erika, the girl who is, in hindsight, rather obviously Hanako's girlfriend. Shorter than Hanako, her slight frame is almost delicate, especially in comparison to you. Her attitude, however… No, you might find her attractive, but she isn't your type.

You begin to speed up again, finding a rhythm. You realise that you don't have a crush on Hanako, at least, not any more. You feel like you might have? But she's in a relationship now, and your feelings towards her have settled into a more comfortable friendship anyway.

But now you have a baseline. You like cute girls.

Out of the corner of your eye, you spot a flash of colour. Slowing, you turn, and catch sight of some chrysanthemums. Legs aflame with exertion, you find yourself walking now, admiring the flowers see blooming along both sides of the street. The evening sun plays across your back, casting a long shadow towards the end of the road.

Yuno steps into your mind, her long brown hair tied into a messy plait which travels down past her waist. She's smiling softly, smiling at you. There's a smear of dirt across her cheek, and in your mind's eye, she giggles, adjusting the fit of her sunhat.

Your cheeks burn, and this time, you do notice. Slowing to a halt, you try and rub away your blush, but it refuses to go.

---

"So, what are we planting today?" You ask, a spade carried over one shoulder as Yuno carries a large woven bag with both hands, almost cradling it to her chest.

"Oooh, so it's a 'we' now? You're just here to hold my spade." She retorts, a laugh on her lips as she glances at you slyly.

"I see how it is, you only want me for my muscles." You play up the insult, and Yuno rolls her eyes, her cheeks slightly red.

You laugh, and with a sigh, Yuno carefully lowers the bag to the grass, lifting out a tray of seedlings, and a pair of small camellia sprouts. "Well, if you're dead set on helping, today, we'll be planting this lavender and these two sprouts. Arakawa-sensei also managed to get a hold of a cherry sapling, so we'll try and find a place for it."

Yuno looks so happy, amongst her plants, you can't help but hold back a smile as you both get to work.

---

Yuno…

---

"I don't get this." You hear a grumble, and look up at the source in surprise, Yuno's got one hand on her forehead, frowning down at the page in front of her.

You set aside the bucket that you've half filled with weeds, and head over. "Anything I can help with, Tanikawa-chan?"

As you approach, Yuno reddens slightly "O-oh! Suzumi-sempai, I…" she pauses, then sighs as you settle next to her in the dappled shade, pulling off your gloves. "Probably. I just… I don't get how this works." She indicates the problem in front of her, physics by the looks of it. "Y-you don't have to though!" she near squeaks as you shuffle closer so that you can see, her face nearly glowing now.

"But I want to help." You look at her, smiling gently. "May I?"

Yuno deflates slightly, "sure… Thanks, sempai."

"It's my pleasure. You're stuck here, right?"

---

Yuno who has a crush on you…

---

"And there we have it!" Yuno stretches up, taking off her sunhat as she does. "All done for the day!"

"Well done, Tanikawa-chan" You reply, wiping a line of sweat from your forehead.

"Th-thank you, Suzumi-sempai."

You grin, "you don't have to be so formal, you know. Most of the team call me by my first name, you can do the same of you want."

Yuno's eyes grow wide as she goes crimson, "a-a-are you sure?"

"Positive, but only if I get to do the same. How about it, Yuno-chan?"

You can almost feel the heat radiating off her. "S-s-s-sure… A-Akane-san."

Unable to help it, you laugh brightly. Reaching out, you ruffle her hair. As she pushes your hand away though, Yuno is smiling and it's so bright, it's almost like you're watching a sunrise.

---

You think you might have a crush on her too.

You straighten, tipping your head back to look at the darkening sky above. The heat in your face isn't going away, but the burn of exertion in your limbs has faded to a manageable level. Starting at a walk, you quickly work your way back up to a light jog as you head home.

The journey home is short, and the streets are dark as you trot up to the front door and let yourself in. "Dinner's almost ready, but get a change of clothes before coming down to eat." Your dad says as you pad through the house.

"Yes dad," you reply, already heading upstairs to your room, where you quickly change, hunger gnawing at your belly. Your thoughts are more settled now, and you feel happier for it.

You thunder back down the stairs and make your way to the dining room, where mum and dad are waiting. "Good run?" your mum asks as you all start eating.

"Yeah." You reply, before taking a bite, clearing your mouth before you speak again, "really good."

Hi again everyone! It's your friendly neighbourhood Joanne here, writing them sidestories and pampering Akane a bit. I hope you enjoyed this little piece, and thanks to both @Snowfire for betaing for me, and @Artificial Girl for making it canon.

Okay, first of all that is cute as heck, and I love her methodical approach, but I got to the bit where she was like, "huh, do I like anyone" and couldn't help but think "oh God, what if she's ace and gets really depressed about it cause she thinks it says something bad about her as a person :(" I could even see her join the gay club out of a desperate desire to fit in somewhere, which would just be the saddest thing. So I'm glad she's into girls.

Hmm, in terms of planning... I guess trying to find out what this guy likes outside of baseball? Might also be worth trying to find out who his closest friends are (they're probably in the baseball club as well, though that's not guaranteed). Hanako could probably talk to Jesse to get some more details, though that runs the risk of tipping him off (I'd be totally okay with that, to be honest). Erika's reluctance is pretty understandable - if Satou is gay, and knows it, he's probably in the closet for really good reasons. Putting aside any family stuff, male sports teams can often be pretty homophobic. Not always, but sport is an area where toxic masculinity finds it easy to settle in.

I would say that Akane is the best person to talk to Satou directly, except people would probably take that as her being interested, and that would seriously upset Akane, I reckon. Mari might be a better choice, though it really depends on what we'd want her to talk to him about?

The best option might simply be to try to invite Satou to something when he doesn't have club, with a small group of people, just as a casual thing. The question is what kind of social stuff he'd be interested in / comfortable with, which I guess we'd focus our research around?

I'd say we should focus on finding out what Satou is into, and the best person for that is Mari. She's already dating someone so if he's straight he hopefully won't take that as romantic interest. And then using that to take him out with our friends (Maybe including Jesse? But that could backfire badly.) and see if we can figure out which way (if any) he swings, as the kids say.

I agree, some kind of group thing would be a good idea, maybe karaoke? They rent private rooms for groups. Might be a good way to get the needed privacy to broach the subject without looking suspicious.

Oh, so I'm a little worried people are rather intimidated by the write-in option. There's no need to be. If you think of something, even if it sounds stupid in your head, just put it out here - it may not seem like it, but it helps.

Just, uh don't throw in anything deliberately senseless or malicious, please. You know, things like asking everyone on the baseball team whether Satou's gay or not.
