Mari speaks up immediately.
"Okay, what if we invited him out to hang out. Akane, you both like sports, that should be enough to make a connection, right? And then when we get him kind of alone in a safe space I can try to wheedle which way he bats," she snortgiggles for a moment. "Ha. Bats. Get it? Anyway, I can try and get it out of him then!"
You scratch behind an ear and Akane and Erika both look... less than enthused. Erika speaks up first.
"Ah, that sounds kind of over-complicated to me. Plus if Akane just approaches him out of the blue, won't it seem like a confession? I think we want to like, avoid miscommunication as much as possible on this don't we? I mean..." She glances at Akane sheepishly.
"Miscommunication can really mess things up," Erika concludes. Akane nods in agreement.
"Just because we both play sports doesn't meant that we're gonna hit it off, Mari. I'm with Erika on this--simple is better. I just wish I had a better idea of what that
means here. This is complicated, you know?" Akane says. You heave a small sigh, then glance at Mari.
"Remember what happened
last time you tried some convoluted way of getting two people together, Mari?" You ask. Mari huffs and crosses her arms, looking a little put off by the universal condemnation of her plan.
"I didn't know you were gay, sheesh! And I said I was sorry." You hold your hands up to try and placate Mari.
"It's okay, it's okay. We're just saying that complicated might not be the best way to go here. And straight forward. Though knowing how
I felt I do feel kind of weird about just straight up asking him." There are some murmurs of assent as it's collectively decided that you all need to go back to the drawing board on this one. Silence for a few minute as everyone does their best to think of an alternative plan. Finally, Erika breaks the silence by speaking up.
"...What about a note?" Everyone looks at her and she clears her throat before continuing. "I mean, a note is anonymous, it's simple, it doesn't expose him to like... being asked weird questions in public. It might be the best thing to do. Assuming he actually replies to it. We'd just need some way of getting a reply. Maybe ask him to wear something? I dunno."
"That's great!" Mari beams. "It'd be perfect!"
"...Better than any of my ideas," Akane says with a lopsided grin. "I guess we should give it a shot."
The four of you put your heads together around the tabe and spend the next few minutes arguing back and forth about the wording of the note. Mari, as always, wants something a bit flowery. Erika argues for something straightforward and simple. Akane, like you, doesn't seem to have much of a preference either way. Finally though, simplicity seems to win out and the end result is a fairly straightforward note.
You don't know me but I know a boy who really wants to confess to you. He's too nervous to do it, though! Does he have a chance? If the answer is yes, wear something red tomorrow.
There's no signature on the note, but Mari's girly handwriting and rather pastel stationary make it almost look like some sort of confession letter. You sit back and rest on your hands. Hopefully this works out and you'll be helping someone out! You look around the circle for a moment, then Mari pipes up.
"So, who's going to deliver it to his locker?"
[ ] Hanako will do it! Let no one say that you're a scaredy-cat. Besides, all you need to do is time it so that he's not there to see you do it. Or anyone else because awkward questions are the worst. Though what if someone
does see you? Hmm...
[ ] Erika. She's a year younger, small, and people aren't likely to pay a lot of attention to her (sorry, Erika). She can slip over and put the note in his locker without anyone being the wiser! Though as a reluctant member of the team, she might not
want to do the delivery.
[ ] Mari, take the lead. She has so much confidence and easy-breezy attitude that no one's going to think twice of her, no matter where she is or what she's doing. Besides, she's way into this. On the other hand she might be a little
too noticeable considering how she always seems to have someone with her or a ind word for others.
[ ] Akane is a cat. She's athletic. She can do it quickly and quietly and no one will notice. Besides, she's sporty and who's going to notice if one sporty person is near another sporty person's locker? It's the perfect camouflage! But she's also, well, kinda tall which makes her kinda stand out if Satou starts asking around about who was near his locker.
[ ] Group effort. If you all go together you're
bound by blood oath able to be more flexible and make changes to the plan on the spot if you need to, since everyone is there to help. But a group might be the most noticeable of all, if you're not careful.
Hi everyone. Sorry for the short update, but I wanted to get my momentum going again after such a long break. Plus I have a cold.
In any case, I hope this little tidbit holds you up and reminds you that yes, I'm alive and looking to get back into the swing of things. <3
