. . .

The sky was nice and bright this day. Perfect to just lie in the grass and doze a little bit.
Well, except the cowbell going off to her left... but one could not have everything. Ming knew that very well.

She ought not to think of this, though. Despite everything, things were looking upwards and she did not want to sully her good mood.

Her purplish hair was sprawling all around her, the white robe and red skirt being played with by the wind; this was nice, a moment to relax amidst all the chaos. With the warlords finally stopping to bother her people and a few more Magical Girls showing up without bad intentions...

"My lady!"

Ah, her moment was over.

Pushing herself into a sitting position, the girl watched as her right hand man hurried around the cattle and towards her. He was old, wrinkled and gentle; a nice man who took her in when she had nothing and stayed her friend even after... that.

He even took the time to teach her English so they could actually talk to each other... Ming owed him much.

If he would just stop calling her a lady...

"My lady, there you are. I was worried."

He still talked funny with his accent, but the Magical Girl did no less so. "Just... taking a break."
They both looked at each other for a moment, the young face downcast in disappointment and the old one a little more straightened as a smile pulled muscles taut. "I see."

Ming sighed and floated up next to the old man while straightening out; being able to just fly with magic was really useful for this kind of thing, actually. They got going a moment later, the elder leading the way towards the town hall.

A stronger breeze made a few strands of hair whirl around the horns protruding out of her skull, but the girl absent-mindedly swiped them back.

Two years had passed since she awakened her powers and became this village's patron deity. It showed, seeing that the grass was flush and green, trees were in bloom already and the people looked healthy.

No one dared disturb their peace anymore. Some tried... and she really did not want to think about what she did to them. It was a small miracle in itself that her followers were not deathly afraid of her, considering she could kill people by looking at them. It was more to it than that, but Ming could guess how it appeared from the outside.

She sometimes wondered if it was okay for her to have that much power, but then she remembered all the smiling faces, the playing children she sheltered and allowed to grow up in peace.

This was worth it. Even when she had to stain her own hands to make it so, to protect those under her care.

They passed quite a few people on the way and a lot of them paused to wave or greet her; some bowed, too. It felt so weird to have people older than her be so respectful, Ming knew she might never get used to that.

"It still feels weird", she confided into her companion when they reached a more unpopulated stretch, away from the fields. "Being a goddess, I mean..."

He just chuckled in response, waving off the notion. "It will come in due time, my lady. You're probably the best white ruler a bunch of black people can wish for."

That went... right over Ming's head. What was he talking about?

Seeing the curious expression on her face, the old man sighed and shook his head. "Yes, I forgot you're too young to know. Let me tell you... another time."

Ming was really curious how their respective skin colours were important in this, but she dropped the matter and returned to her pondering instead. Magic made the harvest go splendidly and everyone was working with vigor, they kept expanding and might soon hit the next mark, a thousand people.

Granted, only a fourth of those were actually devout to her, but Ming did not mind that. For as long as people behaved themselves, she welcomed them all with open arms.

That was what being a goddess was all about, right?

The last demon splattered into bloody paste and entrails under Haruna's blade, light surging from it to heal her wounds. Her innate power soon healed off the rest and she let out a relieved sigh at feeling whole again.

Some of those things were getting pesky, but she managed to fend them off so far.

Although... the small hill she had been fighting over was now a bloody battlefield filled with gore. Shuddering, the girl turned her head away and made sure she got all of them. Pain was something she got used to by now, but seeing what she herself could dish out... yes, she grew a lot since that day.

If only she had been strong enough back then... but the past should not weigh her down.
A soft breeze came up and ruffled her green locks while the Magical Girl hovered away from her latest battlefield, exhaustion setting into her muscles.

This was the strongest wave to date; dozens of powerful demons tried to kill her today.
"Just what did I do to them?!"

"I am still not sure. It is good to see you well, Haruna."

The chirpy voice made her turn in mid-air when a red pyramid started to appear out of thin air; it contorted a little around its edges, but remained in this form while hovering after the Japanese. "Ah, there you are. Found anything?"

"I am afraid not", the creature replied without much change to their voice or appearance. The two of them met by chance and got along pretty well; Crimson was capable of creating edible food for her and kept her company on the journey. In exchange, Haruna let him examine her magic.

It was a weird companion, a Disciple of the Word was what he called himself. Not that he said much more, only that his people were at odds with the demons. A friend was a friend... and Haruna was realistic enough to know she might very well have starved during the first week, had it not been for him.

"I believe the demon attacks will soon stop, though. You grew incredibly fast and whoever sent them can not afford to loose anything stronger."
That was weird; if hell itself was after her, why would they suddenly stop? "Why's that?"

The Magical Girl set down and detransformed, her clothes at least clean again; she found some things to change into while preparing a boat to mainland Asia, but everything was starting to get a little thin... and cold during the night.

Crimson pointed in the direction she wanted to go, though; for some reason -he said magic when she asked- he knew where everything was rather accurately. They got around a few smaller cities like that. Haruna did not feel like either risking people to attack her or to get attacked while nearby.

"Yes, I recall I never expanded on my affiliation. It would not do me good if I did, though. Just know that the Local Dimensional Cluster unanimously agreed to not bother humanity. Anyone who breaks this decree will suffer from intense repercussions by all sides, including their allies. Thirteenth Hell is part of this agreement, so this is most likely a duke acting by themselves to gain a better standing."

Okay... Local Dimensional Cluster? Thirteenth Hell? And... wait, everyone?

"Does 'everyone' include your people?"

Crimson did not reply for a few seconds and twirled around his own axis several times before modulating a response: "It does... my presence on Earth is not particularly... legal, so to say."

He did not elaborate any further, but Haruna could guess what he meant... not that she minded the roughly metre-long embodiment of geometry. She wondered why he was acting against orders, but that was probably a little too personal to ask; there was such a thing as manners, after all.

...Gods, how she missed her mother... now even Haruna's thoughts sounded like her.

The teenager just kept wandering; never stopping, never looking back. It was all she could do while hoping the attacks would finally stop.

Crimson told her there was a group of Magical Girls here in China, which was her goal at the moment. It would take a few more weeks, but she could see the mountains looming up in the distance.

She had food, clothes and was strong enough to defend herself... but above all, Haruna just wanted to rest for a while. To rest her aching legs and maybe talk to another human being again. Her companion was nice enough, but... not one for smalltalk. Crimson could be described as two hundred percent scholar.

Shaking off the thought, Haruna marched on and left the remains of her opponents behind.

You spend the next days thinking about those weird dreams you had. Both were about Magical Girls, Ming and Haruna. Those names sound really weird, almost as weird as it is to know them in the first place.

It is nice that the dreams tell you things, though. Maybe you can have one about big sister next? Or Anastasia? It has been weeks, maybe she already reached whatever place Bianca sent her to.

Your magic grew again, too. You found out from just lazily shooting into the air; Scorching Sunlight became even bigger and hotter. Right now you are getting a feel for its new power while Eva is busy talking to Igni about nothing important. It is pretty new that you can hear and see everything she does without being there... but also neat.

Igni talked to you some more over the last two days; nothing about Yggdrasil, none of you really wants to go to that topic. Just... normal things, you guess? Eva is still trying to make her spill her favourite food right now and Igni tries her best to ignore your twin.

What is also new is the coastline -that is how your friend called it- in the distance. You feel pretty good about your spell by now, so you stop throwing light into the air. Ludger sits by your feet and dozes, so you lazily slide down and cuddle into him. The ground is not even as hard while you are transformed.

. . .
Line Break Recognised
. . .

You reach the coast in the afternoon, Rico being the first to jump onto the dock. Ludger is right behind her and your sister quickly runs off to explore. You let her and giggle a little at the looks the older girls are giving you. There is another one you do not know, with her hair bound into a bun and hard features.

"She's coming back, right?"
Igni shrugs at the other older girl and hands her a set of keys. "I guess so. She was bored this whole time."

She is right, you could tell Rico hated the last part of your journey; there were a few books in your backpack, so you could read... but your sister never liked reading much. She could not even go swimming because you were in the middle of the ocean and driving all the time.

It is interesting how there are so many empty warehouses, though. Some containers are inside, but most of the space is empty and echoing. You giggle a little more at the excited barking. Igni gives you a weird look, but you do not mind. Rico is having fun.

"Anyway, where is Knight?"

The unknown girl squints an eye and turns towards the inland; you did not see much of it yet, but what you can see looks like the ruins back home... only much bigger. "She went on another raid in the north and came back late yesterday... so probably at HQ?"

Then the other girl winks and elbows Igni. "'sides, your girlfriend's been missing you."
Huh?

"How often do I have to tell you she isn't my girlfriend?"
"How often do I have to say it until you admit it?"

You wonder... girlfriend, that is a girl that is your friend, right? Oh wow, what a nice view from on top of the warehouses... but most of the city is in ruins. It still looks really pretty... in a way. The light does not fall directly because you have a cloudy sky today, though. It shines on all the rubble and cleared streets and... there is a big, empty space nearby. Lots of holes and craters in it, too.

You shake that off and turn back to Igni, pulling her sleeve to make her look at you; this is interesting, too. "Why can you have only one girlfriend?"
"...um... what?"

Both girls look at you as if you said something weird. Silly, it is so easy. You tilt your head and raise a finger like your mother does at times. "Rico and me are both girls and your friends, so you have at least two."

Igni blinks once more and... is she blushing a little?

You are not sure and it is gone really quick, but the other girl giggles quietly before slapping your friend's shoulder. Then she turns to you and has to stifle another bout of laughter before speaking: "You've got it wrong. Anyone can have as many female friends as they want... but a girlfriend is a girl you're dating."

Dating... that is what adults do, right? Or... at least older children. You talked about that with Bianca before because she was not married like all the other women her age. It was an interesting conversation... and she said you were supposed to only date someone you really liked but who was not part of your family.

"Oh! I see!"

You beam at the other two in understanding while Igni just shakes her head. "We should get going, see you around."
"Sure thing."

She walks ahead and you follow her after waving goodbye to the new girl. Rico comes running down a fire ladder on your way with Ludger right after her, cheerfully bouncing around the two of you and chatting about what she found on the roof. The corgi darts around your feet and jumps around happily.

Looks like your twin was not the only one bored on the boat.

"The free space?"

Igni turns her head as the place comes into view for you now; you walk over a large bridge... or is that a street? No idea. Rico just asked her what this was about, seeing that it is a large space without any buildings.

"That's where we train our magic and how to work with it. No one lives there and we got everything of use out of the buildings anywhere nearby."

Oh, so like a big training area. That sounds really good to have... maybe they let you use it when Rico's spell grows stronger again?

. . .
Line Break Recognised
. . .

It is really quiet and you are not sure how to feel about that. It feels weird to walk through these streets with almost no one around. Your steps echo, too... and now it is more creepy than at the docks because Eva was talking to people.

Eh, you might as well distract yourself. So you move up to walk by Igni's side and pull at her sleeve, just like Eva did before. "She said you have a girlfriend? What's she like?"

Your friend's eyes narrow while Eva notices tapping in the distance. Igni sighs and shakes her head. "We're not girlfriends. Knight tasked me with guarding her, so she is around me pretty often. The other girls just like to tease us about it."

Oh, so that is how it is. The tapping grows louder, but they said it is safe here... probably just another Magical Girl. You tilt your head at Igni for now, this being more interesting than everything else. "Okay.... but what's she like?"

The older girl opens her mouth before something big rushes down from a nearby rooftop and tacklehugs her.
"Igniiiii!!!"
"Urgh..."

The girls sway around for a moment, but Igni keeps them standing. Your friend almost vanishes under an even bigger girl -is that a tail?- who starts babbling excitedly: "You're back, finally! I was so worried when I heard you got hurt... there's nothing wrong now, right? Nothing lasting or something like that? You-"
"Dragon, get off me."

She pauses and the big, scaly green tail curls in the air, making you stare; it looks really weird, especially with the dark dress and bright orange hair. And are those horns?

"Oh... right."
She lets go and beams at all of you while Igni sighs. "To answer your question, Sun... this is Magical Girl Dragon Maid."

"Aww, how cute!"

But before you can say something, she is already on all fours and looking all over Ludger. He just yips and lets her pet him, not even bothering about the horns or the tail or... or anything about her. It smells a bit like smoke around her... at least you think so.

"Why didn't you tell me you've gotten to meet a cute doggie? And two cute little girls, too! Hey there!"

And then she hugs first Rico and then you; her chest is soft and puffy and she keeps you there for a few seconds before letting go. You do not really mind her being huggy, but that was pretty surprising...

Rico beams right back. "Hey, Dragon! I'm Sun and that's my sister Moon."

You wave and offer a weak smile that she responds to with a dreamy sigh. "D'aww... really, you could have taken me-" "No."
"But-" "No."

Igni sighs and steps around the three of you. "Orders are orders. Besides, for completeness' sake... their full names are Primordial Sun and Primordial Moon."

Then she turns back and offers you a smile almost as weak as yours. "And with that... welcome to New York. Or what's left of it, really."

Dragon giggles and waves for you to follow the older girl, then she strolls up to her side. You follow them with smiles; it was nice that Igni had a good friend.

To be honest, this girl reminds you a lot of Rico; she is bubbly and cheery and huggy, just lots more of it than your sister.

On the other hand... next is Abyss Knight, right?

The thoughts bother you for a while; what will she be like? Definitely strong, but... will she be nice? Mean? Violent?

Rico notices you are getting closer to the center of town and a few other girls play in the ruins; all of them look older than you, but only one or two are transformed and you do not really get a good look.

Some of them look weird, unusual features and things like that. You do spy one of them having a long scar running over her face and over one eye... ow, that must feel really bad. Everyone you pass looks and waves, though. Almost no one smiles, but it feels not really unhappy here.

And Dragon is talking without pause, anyway.

After walking a little further and climbing over a small layer of rubble, you round a last corner and find... a building that is not a ruin.

It is small in comparison to some of the big towers around it, only... maybe five times your house in height? But it is pretty wide, like at least your school. Made of shining metal that reflects the light somewhat and with a few big antennas at the top.

"That's our HQ, if you want", Igni notes after stopping and allowing you to look for a bit. "We built the dorms nearby, but this one was built by Kibo; they've got all the tech, but they share some of it with us. Not the weapons, though."

She smirks at what she says last and Dragon grimaces for a moment, but then the biggest Magical Girl is all smiles again. "It's even more amazing on the inside. Come, come!"

You quickly get moving before she can pick you up; piggy-backing is nice, but you rather walk yourself. Rico thinks the same and gets going. Dragon huffs a little sadly and takes the back of the group now.

. . .
Line Break Recognised
. . .

The inside is huge! There is lots of free space and everything looks shiny and new and so many screens and- Eva pokes you to make you stop and you comply. This time at least.

But it really is neat to watch. There are two girls sitting at what may be computers, one of them turning around to look at you curiously. She quickly gets back to whatever she is doing after a few seconds, though.

"You stay here for now, alright?"
Igni gives her friend a calm look and she agrees instantly. "Fine with me, I'll wait with the doggie."

Ah, right. Ludger would be kind of... actually, you want him to come with you. But he is pretty dirty by now... just like you are, but he can not transform to get the dirt out of his fur. Washing him was not really possible so... aww.

"Ludger, sit."
"Woof."

Your sister makes him stay where he is and Dragon crouches next to the corgi. He is in good hands, so you can concentrate on whatever is happening now.

"This way."
You follow Igni up a staircase and into a wide lounge with nice decoration; it feels homey here... and there is someone sitting at one of the couches, carefully sipping from a mug in her hands.

This girl looks... off. She seems big, but also thin and her skin is pretty pale. A short mob of brownish blond hair falls around her head much like your own does. She seems familiar for a moment, but you have no idea where you could have seen her before.

And when she looks at you, her brown eyes are calm and a little cold. You hold her gaze for a few seconds, then look away; the same happens to Eva and the other girl stares at you for a little longer.

"Seriously?"
She places the mug down and sighs, then slaps her own forehead. "...I... sorry, I have no words."

The girl gets up and she is tall, about as big as Dragon is. It bothers you that she is little more than half Dragon's width, though.

"Uh... what's going on?"
Igni seems as confused as you at the weird reaction. The unknown girl sighs again and hides her face quietly. Then she grabs for the mug and empties it in a few gulps before wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.

"...Iron didn't say how old they are. I thought they're like fourteen, not... what, eleven?"

"Ten, actually..."

Eva only mumbles her response in the silence, but she is heard anyway and the other girl closes her eyes for a moment, muttering to herself before shaking her head and looking at you again. The skin over her cheekbones pulls taut and turns the scowl into a small smile as she looks at you. "I guess so."

She comes over and exchanges nods with Igni, then offers each of you a nod as well. "Anyway, welcome to Yggdrasil, Primordial Sun and Moon. I am Abyss Knight, even though you can't really see it right now. Do you mind if I transform? I feel more at ease that way."

You wonder why that would matter and why she is not already transformed, but you can see what she means; it feels so much better to be transformed!

So you nod and smile back. ""I don't mind.""

Your double response makes the older girls blink for a moment, then she takes a few steps back and inhales deeply before intoning: "Fear the end and know there is no escape from it. I am Magical Girl Abyss Knight."

A black miasma runs all over her body and transforms her clothes into a black dress with red linings. The hair becomes a true blond and a mask forms in front of her eyes.

There is a sword just like the dress... and you just realised that you are actually talking to the one person your big sister warned you not to talk to.

This is Abyss Knight, the leader of Yggdrasil. She carefully places the sword on the ground and offers you another smile, even though it is only around her mouth. It feels weird to look at someone who has no visible eyes... oh, she just took off the mask. Now her eyes are a bright yellow. She is still pretty scary-looking, though.

Oh... did she not transform because she did not want to scare you?

Abyss Knight offers you to sit, then pulls a few more mugs and a carafe from below the table she was sitting at, then fills them with something sweet smelling. "Careful, it's hot."

You both sit opposite to the older Magical Girl while Igni remains standing and leans against the wall. Taking a curious sip from the mug makes your eyes shine, though.

Hot chocolate! You only ever had this once or twice!

"Anyway, I think we should start talking now. Any questions before we start?"

Me is stupid.
Those that read "Los Angeles" in the Update should know I derped. They are actually in New York.

I even had it written down and all... and then I still wrote it wrong.

I have only one question I can think of off the top of my head, but hey, it's something

[X] Ask...
-[X] "What are relations like between Yggdrasil and Kibo?"

[X] Find out your Affinities
[X] Meet more Magical Girls

[X] EXP plan: less squishy

Oh wow, Saber Alter and someone a super ability tied to Heaven (along with attacks similar to those of a War Angel).
Sunlight Scepter: Spellslinger
-Sunlight Scepter lv10
-150 EXP
Add the Ability "Multi-Caster(lv1)" to Sunlight Scepter
Very nice, although it should be written "Multi-Caster (Lvl 1)".
Moonlight Scepter: Spell Cancel
-100 EXP
Adds the Ability "Spell Cancel" to the Moonlight Scepter
A levitating weapon that interrupts enemy spells and can teleport back to us? Fantastic.

And the fact that it can levitate means that we can throw it really far and accurately, by using levitation to adjust our aim after throwing.
Advanced Connection
-Moon and Sun are capable of auto-synchronising their attacks against the same target; both sides know what the other sees and hears. Negates pain-backlash and emotional resonance. More difficult to surprise. Synchronised attacks deal 150% Total Damage.
And people thought this wouldn't be a very useful upgrade......

The next tier sounds very good.
If he would just stop to call her a lady...

-[X] What do you plan to build for the future?

We know she wants to change the system by force, but what does she intend to replace it with?
I am very interested in that answer.

...and how is that not even more confrontational?

Or is that the question you were referring to?

Very nice, although it should be written "Multi-Caster (Lvl 1)".
+ Echo + Double Cast = Can you dodge rain?

And we don't even have Danmaku. Need to level up Multi-Caster a couple of times for it to really get going, but... Pfft.

Is there an upgrade to Levitate? We could chuck Rods from God that Spell Cancel people.

This system is hilariously awesome sometimes.

-[] What's Yggdrasil's relationship with Kibo

That's an upgrade for Moon, not for Sun. And it's on her weapon, not her spell.

One thing it does do though is let her cast two spells simultaneously (like say, a healing spell and a buff spell).
