It Belongs to a Museum

Well Paht is a multi millennia old magical expert and who was like there there when the discipline of Necromancy was created, yet hasn't learned it himself. I have to assume there's some reason why he hasn't seen it as worth it in character.

@Boney Actually legit, why hasn't he tried learning Necromancy himself? I get meta-wise you had to balance the traits the talents given to the options, but he seems to be both interested and have had many opportunities to persue it? Does he regard Dhar as "cool and neat, but it aint for me," is he scared of infringing on dearest Niece Neferata's intellectual property, does being an immortal Liche Priest mean he genuinely cannot get into the mindset needed for Necromancy or something else?
People have talked about this before but like, why would he? What does knowing Necromancy get him? He doesn't need more power, he doesn't need an army, he's interested in it in a scholarly sense but that doesn't require him to learn it personally. There's just no real reason for him to learn.

Remember that the primary mechanic of this quest is knowledges, not skills.

Paht is extremely knowledgeable about Shyish and vampires. He is not knowledgeable about necromancy or any other magical discipline. You might as well ask why he doesn't know light magic or Mortuary Cult incantations—and the answer is that he probably does, but not enough to be a subject expert, and as such it doesn't appear on his character sheet.

It's a bit weird that the guy we know for a long time may be a skaven as they don't have a overly long life span.

...Wait.

Is Amor actually Skreech Verminking :V?
Hmm. Or... Nehekharan name. Possibly a Skaven, associated with knives. Extremely old... Is this an Eshin assassin (or possibly even a pre-Eshin assassin) who managed to steal some scrolls from the Liche Priests and used their soul-binding rituals on himself? Because that would be amazing and I would love to know more about him!

Someone a few pages back suggested Clan Skully, and their warlords seem be called "Murderlords". The only named Murderlord is Raksheed Deathclaw, but he lived during the Black Plague over a thousand years ago, so who knows?

He is perfectly at peace with mortality in the abstract while not actually being subject to it. What he enjoys most is helping others grow. He has no personal want or need for anything that necromancy offers.

Whoever Amos is, they thought that they could translate their name to "vulture/man with knife/knife/knife", and then transliterate back to D'm't's'ss'm, filling in all the blank vowels with the letter "i".

That sounds like a riddle, but I'm not sure where to begin solving it.

If Amos is Skurry's boss then they are already pretty damn close to being an entry point to sweet Nehekhara loot. The clan itself might be a bit too far west, but Skaven have genuine continent-spanning trade networks and both the skills and inclination to mess with the mummies.
Nehekhara could plausibly be either one of the existing ??? or an upgrade path if we invest further Goodwill into them.

Oh, hang on a second, there are two different knives in Amos's name. The first knife is 𓌪 (with a long handle), which just means knife, but the second knife is 𓌫 (short handle), which means knife sharpener.

The vulture 𓄿 is just the letter "a" (Alef, technically) and the man with knife 𓁍 is an ideogram for "black eye paint" (according to Wikipedia, at least).

Plausibly, Amos's name could be something like "Assassin Darkeye Sharpknife".

When transliterated, it becomes:
𓄿 - a
𓁍 - msdmt
𓌪 - s
𓌫 - ssm

am'sd'm't's'ss'm
Amos Dimitisissim

... I have no idea what to do with any of this information.

Oh. Oh, I've just had a very funny thought. If this is indeed a Skaven (or succession of Skaven) who's been in this part of the world for long enough to have a Nehekharan name, there's just a chance that he might know about a very important element of the history of necromancy that essentially nobody but the Skaven is aware of. That would be quite the coup!

(Sadly, I doubt we're going to get the Fellblade for the museum. Probably a bit much to hope for, that.)

Huh, I thought he would've been interested in trying to cast a spell or two himself out of academic curiosity, but I guess theory is and seeing others "flourish" enough for Uncle Lion Butt.

Magic runs through the soul, so your soul needs to be compatible with the magic. Academic curiosity might help him cast a few Light Magic spells but it doesn't do the job for necromancy. Learning it would require him to learn how to inhabit a mindspace compatible with it on demand. It would require him to become a person that truly believes that he should do necromancy.
