It Belongs to a Museum

How did Paht even get in touch with Amos in the first place? Like, who even has a mysterious entity that may or may not be a Skaven assassin as a pen pal? How does that happen?

Some research materials are unfairly categorized as 'restricted' or 'contraband' or 'an inherent danger to life and soul' and made difficult to acquire by closed-minded mortal authorities. Bypass said authorities frequently enough and you begin to draw the attention of those who have made a business of doing so, who have a vested interest in determining whether you are potential competition or a potential customer. Paht is very customer-shaped.

Hey @Boney Paht has been around awakening for around 9 years now and i was wondering what is his reputation with the general populace.

"If you tell him interesting stories he will buy you drinks, if you try to prey on him he will pull your soul out, bounce if off the walls for a bit, put it back in, and make you thank him for teaching you an important lesson." Most people assume he's a Necrarch, since their whole brand is pretending to be what Paht actually is.

I mean to be fair it is an important lesson and one that is quite hard to learn, since most people who can pull your soul out of your body aren't nice enough to put it back in. :V

Ye gods - this guy knows exactly the kinds of thing Paht wants and is used to getting them for him! He's a perfect fit! The Serpent Crown is cool, no doubt about it, but I urge people to consider Amos, our no-longer-so-local friendly assassin, possible Skaven and dealer in terrifying magical artefacts!

I'm guessing the the "put it back in" bit of his reputation goes a long way in keeping people comfortable coming up to kindly uncle Paht with their stories in the hopes of a free drink or two.

It's downright wholesome.

"And then he put my soul back in my body" is a good story.
At least outside Awakening, where it is fairly common by now.
So not only did Uncle Paht teach you a valuable lesson (do no try to mug Uncle Paht), but he also gave you an interesting life experience you can share at other ports for free drinks. :V

I've just realised that if we go with the Golden Magus, then that opens a pathway to getting Count Noctilus as a patron.

And that would be hilarious.

I wonder what his interest would be? Something to do with nautical history would be my guess.

[X] The Serpent Crown
[X] Amos

A point: Consider that the paired knives at the end of Amos's hieroglyphic name would also follow the Skaven verbal tick of paired words, (yes-yes, Murder-kill, Flee-abscond, etc.) but in another writing system.

That's a good catch... So all of our suppositions are that we're dealing with a Skaven (or succession of Skaven) old enough to have a Nehekharan name, possibly as a cover. The question, then, is why they'd retain that name for their contemporary work in Araby. Possibly to retain prior Nehekharan contacts (though crucially not Paht, who met him through the transliterated name) or maybe because the name is a title of some kind dating from Nehekharan times?

...

Wait a minute - do we know how old Queekish itself is? And Nehekhara did briefly expand up into the South of the Old World, didn't it? I don't suppose there's any chance this is a result of linguistic borrowing? Gah, now I need to look back into Mathilde's study into Queekish in Divided Loyalties!

Hmm... I suppose that Paht could try learning about necromancy rather than hiring on an expert? That would minimise the AP cost but doesn't offer the kind of knowledge that someone like Bahr would have.

Well Paht is a multi millennia old magical expert and who was like there there when the discipline of Necromancy was created, yet hasn't learned it himself. I have to assume there's some reason why he hasn't seen it as worth it in character.

@Boney Actually legit, why hasn't he tried learning Necromancy himself? I get meta-wise you had to balance the traits the talents given to the options, but he seems to be both interested and have had many opportunities to persue it? Does he regard Dhar as "cool and neat, but it aint for me," is he scared of infringing on dearest Niece Neferata's intellectual property, does being an immortal Liche Priest mean he genuinely cannot get into the mindset needed for Necromancy or something else?
