It Belongs to a Museum

Being a tourist looking for souvenirs in a Black Ark is going to be hilarious. Taking our student along would likely be pushing it, though.

Two entire sets of ?s for the price of a single Goodwill? That's a steal.

[X] The Serpent Crown

Why yes, I would absolutely love to read about Paht being penpals with a living magic crown(s) that one of his students made, who has found itself in the very understandable position of needing a trustworthy place to stash some totally-harmless and unsuspicious knickknacks; thanks for asking!

Hmm. Update, as ever, is appreciated, Boney!

So, the good news - the Dark Elven lead on Luthor is fantastic. Creates a very obvious circular narrative for the exhibit if we can get hold of anything on Nagash. The Stromfels lead is also intriguing as both evolution and re-embrace of the necromantic traditions of Nehekhara. Both would be valuable.

On the other hand, the slightly concerning news - no clear line to Lahmia or even Nehekhara at large... Of the options, the Golden Magus seems most likely to offer something in that direction, though the rest of the options all have inklings of possibility too.

Hmm. Will go with that for now but willing to be persuaded.

Rare Capabilities: Red Vault (can trade militarily useful magical relics for a greater amount of other relics)
I'm assuming that making our own magical artefacts to trade, if we get a mage on staff capable of doing so, is outside the scope of the quest - that this is more trading stuff we acquire but don't want rather than an encouragement to set up an enchantment-production line.

If that's what you're primarily after, Amos seems more likely, given what is likely to fall under "Considered Contraband in Araby" and that he's a native Nehekharan.

Is there a known skaven presence in Atalan Mountains in canon? It would be hilarious if we end up meeting a Hashashin inspired branch of clan Eshin.

Amos Dimitisissim is a long-time pen pal of yours, and the name itself seems to be an amateurish transliteration of 𓄿𓁍𓌪𓌫, a name with far too many knives,
One thing I didn't immediately catch is that Paht calls Amos a long-time pal, which says a lot. They must be immortal or an inherited title.

Having a third of their name be knifes makes me suspect they're a Blood Dragon, but another option is that this is Warhammer's Old Man Of The Mountain.

Contraband in Araby is probably going to include the Vampiric Diaspora trinkets and baubles that we'd want to gather, especially with regards to how the Vampiric Diaspora has affected Araby.

Serpent Crowns are cool and I know nothing about them. Their vault could conceivably have Vampiric Diaspora trinkets and baubles. It could also have living artifacts which wouldn't mind having a home with us.

Again I like all options. As is typical for a quest of Boney's

EDIT:
Potential answers to the mystery Knives Knives Knives person
-Eshin, the "name" is a title
-Local Hashashin tradition, "name" is a title
-Local Vampire with no strong desire to get publicly involved in the Crusades
-Stealthy remnant of Nehekara. Perhaps a leftover Assassin-Order-Of-The-Tomb-Priests that's independent now that the Kings are awake and ruling once more.
-An actual literal magical knife that gets their current wielder to write letters to Paht

That is, in fact, quite persuasive! Certainly worth an approval vote... Though originally having a Nehekharan name and being Nehkeharan aren't necessarily the same thing, of course.

Most of these options have some appeal, the only one I don't have much interest in is Tazadis of Araby. Tilea and Dwarves just feel too removed from our current focus. Though the magic item trading could be useful someday, if we get a good source of non-Lustrian magic items.

Golden Magus seems most straightforwardly relevant, Magic is obviously good for us and Piracy is something we already have to some extent, and we can maybe get an Audience for it if we ever get Sartosans to visit. Djinn Binding sounds cool.

Serpent Crown mostly seems a bit unaligned with our current focus, but the opportunity to get a big crate of random guff sounds nice. Sapient crown that got split in half is a pretty cool identity.

Amos could be good. Value is relevant to Sea Elves, and he might have Necromancy contraband, or stolen Nehekharan artefacts, either of which would be valuable to us. But he might have neither of those things, so it's risky.

Rumour has it that he worked alongside the Hag Sorceress of Ghrond herself, united by a drive to steal the secrets of the Lizardmen, and the nascent fleet of Awakening sailed for a time alongside the Black Ark Palace of Defilement, until inevitably a simultaneous attempted betrayal ended the close cooperation on relatively good terms.
This is exactly the attitude that leads to teaching people like Bahr the Betrayer, and being confident that he wouldn't be betrayed in turn. He's completely nonchalant about a simultaneous mutual betrayal and sees it as ending happily.

The latter will involve you visiting the Black Ark that once worked alongside the Zombie Pirate fleet, which is less of a danger than one might think, as though the Druchii are voracious predators that reave the coastlines of the world, they do so in strict accordance to the benefits it brings them - and though you have quite a high opinion of yourself, you would not say that your services as a slave would be worth earning the ire of one of the few naval powers able to seriously hinder the Druchii.
Still nonchalant, except it's about not being worth enslaving by the Druchii. He's right to be confident about it, but the way he phrases it is just hilarious. I'm interested in voting to make the trip.

He is loosely allied with Count Noctilus, your original patron's competitor, but surely men of education and refinement need not concern themselves with such petty matters. Learning transcends flags and borders, does it not?
It's good to get confirmation that Count Noctilus is still around. I wonder how long it's going to take to defeat him. I just love Paht's attitude about this. It's quite easy to tell where a lot of his students get It from.

The Serpent Crown was forged by one of your students to be the symbol of authority for the port city of Ras Karim, and symbols have a funny way of supplanting the thing itself. Official history states that the Serpent Crown was destroyed by some sort of wandering Dwarven death cultist and an accompanying poet, but in reality it orchestrated the downfall of the former ruler and split itself in two to pave the way for a more competent and better liked duarchy. Now worn as a tiara and a gorget, the nighttime correspondence it has its wearers perform while they sleep does as much to enrich and defend the city as they do by day.

Specialities: Araby, Militaria (Araby), Naval Warfare (Araby)
Rare Capabilities: Treasure Vault (whole bunch of miscellaneous knick-knacks looking for a new home)
That's a Gotrek and Felix reference. I haven't read it though, so I can't say what is up about it. I'm really interested in what sort of artifacts the Serpent Crown is looking to offload. There's an interesting implication that the Serpent Crown isn't even the first time Paht has come across intelligent artifacts.

As far as you can tell he is the leader of some sort of wide-ranging criminal organization based somewhere in the Atalan Mountains. His goals, allegiances, and capabilities are mysteries to you, but what you are sure of is that he is quite willing to work with you and has access to all sorts of treasures and secrets to trade.

Specialities: Value, Contraband (Araby), ???
Rare Capabilities: ???
A mystery! In Total War: Warhammer the Atalan mountains have a dwarf faction and a Bretonnian faction. Though that's probably not being leaned on too much. I'm interested in finding out what he can do and what he is. It's a good point that Paht's use of long-time is saying something. Seems pretty likely that Nehekharan and Vampiric artifacts would count as contraband in Araby.

So are we offering sanctuary to sapient artefacts needing to lay low, or a prison for ones that need to be temporarily removed from local politics?
Why not both? :V

The throughline to Tazadis from what we have would be the animals. We could set up a second [Trophy/Nation] exhibit alongside our Lustrian one. There's a natural centrepiece for the Tide to pick up for us for such an exhibit in the form of the sleeping merwyrm Silak One-Eye off the coast of Vedenza. Add on the Sea Beast/Norscan exhibit and that's actually a pretty solid set of connected exhibits established for an (Un)Natural History Museum.

Once that main exhibit is set up, even if we don't want anything else from the guy the Vault acts as a permanent relic-multiplier as, for a museum, two relics that are shiny but can't kill things is twice as valuable as one shiny relic that can.

I don't think it's the direction I myself want to go going forward, but he is actually pretty relevant if you want to take the Museum into filling that particular natural history niche. Especially if we ever do get around to hiring the poor perpetually-unemployed Black Lion.

Why do I feel as if both parties to the mutual betrayal smiled happily whilst saying "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"

Anyway, the Serpent Crown is cool, but I must vote for the mystery box that is Amos.
