[X] Plan Mellow

I thought you guys were meme'ing at first, but damn. We really are in 40K? This is a decidedly weird crossover
I mean we haven't 100% confirmed, but at this point it's looking extremely likely. The four gods of Yon's Sect match pretty closely to the four Chaos Gods, the Celestials look a lot like guardsman/space marines, the creepy old guy who opened the portal looks like a deformed psyker, the stun baton the guards have is very similar to a 40k weapon, the guards have made a few references (Grandfather = Nurgle, corpse-worshiper = Imperial).

This chapter adds "cogs" (likely heretechs), as well as references to Slaanesh (the pleasure or pain bit).

[X] Do small amounts of drugs and drink--using the kinds of tricks where you seem like you're doing more than you actually are--and try to talk to people--make it seem like flirting if that's what's needed--and otherwise scope out the joint without looking like one of those people who isn't willing to go along with this.
-[X]Try and find out if any of the food or drink here has any spiritual value.
-[X] Be willing to seize some opportunities. If someone seems particularly interesting, whether for sexual or social or information purposes, feel free to go with them in private... and if it's for the latter two, Yon can always play it up later as sex. And if it's for the former, well, have fun, practice safe sex?

[X] Plan: Party Hard
-[X] Do copious amounts of drugs and drink. Really test your Iron Kettle Stomach.
And if it's for the former, well, have fun, and do as the locals do.

I assume we either have some ready money or our rank will not make this an immediate problem, same as buying drinks.

[X] Get mildly buzzed and try a few games, sticking only to small amounts.
[X] Look after Lin, he might be finding this even more disorienting than we are. Try to get to know him better.
[X] See if there's any useful spiritual reagents we can refine from the cocktails.

Yeah, okay, I probably can't beat either of the main votes at this hour, so I'm going for the one that's less SV-quester-caution hyper-paranoia-about-Chaos metagaming and also honestly pretty boring (which I consider Plan Mellow to be, frankly - we're playing a character, he should have traits like "actually does like enjoying himself and doing things that are pleasurable").

As the person who wrote the plan, it's not about hyper-paranoia about chaos. I mean, I figure at this point it's a given that we're going to be working for Chaos regardless. I'm totally on board with advancing cultivation as far as it will go, and from what I can see that is inherently a process of absorbing and internalizing Chaos Things. I've seen people argue that that still allows for service on Imperial voidships and I personally just do not buy it. Yon's ideal endstate is "Ascends, and thereby turns into a greater demon". As far as I'm concerned we are, in fact, Chaos 4 Life.

That said... I feel like Yon is a pretty cautious guy at this point. A lot of his social skills are built around risk management. Currently, he's in a social environment that he can't control, that he's never been in before, and he knows that the stakes are potentially high. He's surrounded by a number of recreational substances that he doesn't know the effects of. So Plan Mellow is basically having some of that caution. He pretty clearly is into alchemy theory - he finds that stuff interesting. So he goes to talk with the bartender and, effectively, spend some time geeking about alchemy stuff, in the way that it exists in this new place, and then trying some of the drinks alongside that to get the full experience. He relaxes to watch the pretty sexy people being pretty and sexy, and maybe gets into a conversation or two. He's not cutting loose, but he is relaxing, and he probably walks out of there kind of buzzed. He's a bit socially awkward, but... guys like him kind of would be, in situations like this.

Yeah like we are a a dive stripper bar/casino to pregame before going to watch some gladiator fights and then wrap up a night with an expensive escort. We aren't here to examine their non existent craft cocktail program. We should be with our level of tolerance, be drinking like a fish, smoking like a chimney, dancing, gambling, or what have you. And more broadly we can either set a good pace know that we can keep going throughout the night, or get pushed into something if they think we are chicken. We are here in part to establish relationships and with SNCOs that means a lot of drugs and alcohol.

I do think it's important to note that we don't need to have the character Yon portrays to his superiors here be the same kind of person as them. He doesn't actually have to match them drink for drink and line for line. He's a fresh recruit from a world with a radically different culture. What we need to do here is portray a character that his superiors think they can understand and predict, who is not repulsive to them and who has clear levers to pull and buttons to push. A persona that they will have an easy time incorporating into their worldview and won't challenge. That is the way that Yon gets himself the most cover for doing his own stuff, and in turn gets the best odds of peeling him and his own underlings off and going their own way later on.

Honestly, I consider the actual functional difference between the plans to be pretty negligible, I'm just going for the presentation that I like more. Plan Mellow has more hedging statements like "don't be afraid to decide something's not to your taste" and "stay back so as not to harsh the buzz". The actions are more or less the same either way, but I don't want to be caught in the OOC voter-loop of trying to hedge bets and say "don't do this, don't take that risk, be careful of this contingency" too much - and I don't think Plan Mellow is doing that, but of the two presentations, it's the more conservative one. Looking for information and Doing Stuff is how plot happens, and even if Yon is a risk-averse person, I feel the focus should be on the Yon-appropriate risks he does take, not the ones he avoids.

TL,DR: reading about someone being cautious is boring. Even if we're playing a cautious character, watching him cautiously slide between dangerous things in an active way is more interesting than watching him hang back at the edges playing it safe.

Yon's ideal endstate is "Ascends, and thereby turns into a greater demon"
Thinking too small, we can probably become a god, theoretically, a bunch if greater demons of chaos undivided and even mortals aim for it.

Although I personally see a pretty big distinction between warp entity and demon, demon is about spreading corruption and misery, as it's main thing, not sure there is a single demon who is net good to anything but their patron god, I think we can ascend and become powerful without doing stuff like turning entire worlds into unending bloodsport competition, rape/torture/drugs fests or "gardens".

That being the stuff greater demons of chaos do.
. I've seen people argue that that still allows for service on Imperial voidships and I personally just do not buy it.
I think the best resource we would find will either be in demon worlds, the warp or incursion of psychic life forms (tyranids and orks), assuming we weren't killed.

I doubt a void ship that purposefully immerse us in the warp can do anything other than be immortal cave equivalent, if high quality one, I think we would need to hunt unique resources to make big jumps in strength.
There may be other sources as well.
I think unique materials can also be helpful, provided they aren't anti warp.

Like, if we found unique diamonds, I can imagine it would help perfecting the diamond body, or if a metal body cultivator found admantium, he might be able to integrate it into himself.

Enlightenment seems important, so knowledge in general might improve out cultivation, or drugs that would allow us to achieve higher purity of purpose or greater will.

Various acts might also help, like Khorne could behead every adult male in a planet after said planet stopped thousands years war, and demons can appear in places where things aligned with them happen.

So having millions of people swing a swords might give sword qi or something, simce the warp is involved, the more emotions involved in an act, the more energy it would likely generate.

The gods have very high emotion concepts, but I imagine tzeench for example struggle more to manifest demons than Khorne, because hope isn't as intense as brutal and violent murder repeated millions of times.

I absolutely agree with this. After all, we had elders back at the sect who were ascending by sitting in caves and meditating for long periods of time. I think we can dodge "being a completely horrible individual". I just don't think that we can dodge Chaos.

Oh, that's not my issue. I suspect that there are useful ways to immerse yourself in the warp... though, being on an imperial ship seems like a somewhat inefficient one as compared to, say, being on a chaos ship. It's more that we're going to be chaos-flagged hard enough that I don't think any proper imperial ship would have us... and living a lie on it would both be incredibly constraining and likely to fail. It's just not worth it.

I agree, cultivation also goes against the edicts of nikea and would likely be ridiculously illegal unless we go full gold emperor theme, and even, outright saints see great resistance from people who think they are warp abominations or liers,

The imperium will never accept us, we might have friendly relations with individual soldiers or rogue traders, but if we tried to live within the imperium, we would need to hide anything cultivation related to avoid being sent on the black ships at best.

We ironically could probably have good relations with chaos factions, as much as chaos factions can have good relations with anyone, even if we murdered the envoy ourselves and escape with all the surrounding ships somehow.
