Ghosts of the Ancestors. (A Cultivation Riot Quest).

So to be clear, if we have the meridians taken up by a breathing technique do we still get their multiplier to qi gathering rolls?
You do not, breathing techniques consume that bonus to provide their effect. For some (like breath of war) this doesn't matter as you're not going to be running it in times where you'll cultivate.

But for most it dos.

With 8 meridians the fire breath would let us stock up on cheap Qi.
Otoh, If pill toxicity from excessive Qi pills consumption is still easiliy dealt with we could just have a Li action on brewing Qi pills. (Li can make a hundred of those on an average roll)

War breath would be usefull for fights.
A +4 could be what pushes us into the next success tier. And the least impactful downsides: not getting the Qi gathering bonus when we werent gathering Qi anyway.

I'm thinking either breath of fire or breath of war, Fire If we are planning on doing alot of body refinement in the next couple of turns. and war is just a good tech for giving us combat bonus without effecting the cultivation benefits of the meridians (since we shouldnt really be gathering in the middle of combat). I'm honestly 50/50 on them. If we can buy these techs latter (not sure if these would fall under what he can get with alchemy hall), then I would go for the war tech, otherwise I would want fire even though I don't want to use it until we got 8 meridians. Still tempted to go for the war one though based off the info we got for the next event.

So taking into account the event I'm actually leaning towards war a little. Just not sure he would have info time to activate it.

[X] Breath of War- a breathing method meant to dedicate one whole purpose for battle. Consisting of small but powerful breaths, this breathing technique is meant to be adopted during times of conflict and switched away after battle has concluded.

[X] Endlessly refining breath- a breathing technique consisting of long breaths infused with Qi meant to circle the power gained throughout one's body to refine it further toward perfection.
Is my pick turning it of is only 20 points and currently provides a +8 per die and we roll two dice per ghost.
Using reflection or fire would double this and we can brew complex Qi like a combination of fire + yang.

Between the chalice giving us reflection qi and our new hall letting us make more fire pills I think we'll be fine for body refining?

This gives us a boost without hampering our qi gathering abilities, which sounds good enough for now.
He meant creating a reflection qi pill for the second which is possible if expenaive.
Checking the shop Yang Qi is only 4CC each, so I'd be more tempted to go for that for our breakthrough to QC3. It'd still double 4 of our stats and give us extra Health and Qi capacity for a lot cheaper.

Btw, we should get Li doped on intelligence boosting pills to make more from the Alchemy action.

Yes, even if Li only does the forced action it would be profitable.
0.8333... CC profit per turn when only doing the forced brewing action on basic Qi pill.
+17.5 CC more income per action that Li brews basic Qi pills for cash.
[] Buy a Ox strength pill* (+10 to strength for a 3+x rounds) for 5 CC +X.
*There is a variant available for all the other attributes.
Using base version:
+10 for 3 rounds for 5 CC.
5 CC/3 rounds=1+(2/3) = 1.666... CC/round.

The six attributes are Strength, dexterity, Constitution, Wisdom, Intelligence and perception these attributes add a modifier to his roll (and only his rolls at this time) the modifier is determined by taking the score-10 and dividing it in 2 (basically how DnD dos it).
+10 int would give +5 modifier.

With basic Qi pills, that is 5 batches of 4 pills= 20 pills.
For forced action, we'd get 1/8 of market price and pay no herbs and basic Qi pill has a market price of 1.

20/8=2.5

So we'd earn an additional 2.5 CC per turn -> more than the 1.666... we pay per turn. (Slightly, 0.8333...)

For an elective brew, we would get 1.05 times marketprice but we'd have to pay for herbs (1 common herb per pill, and 4 herbs per CC spent) with tools reducing herbs needed by 30%

(20 pills * 1.05 CC/pill) - (20 herbs *0.7 * 0.25 CC/herb)
= 21 CC - 3.5 CC
=17.5 CC
17.5 CC additional income per turn.

I can definitely see the advantage in hitting up other options as well, but our meridians are already doing something, and every other breathing technique conflicts with that. This one we can fire up when we're going to go do something dangerous, release after we're safe and can afford the adrenaline crash, and pretty much retain the full benefit of our meridians for qi gathering.

WE can then invest in some of the other breathing techniques later... like, say, after we've carved out a few more siphons and have our alchemy engine up and running a bit better and the benefits on qi gathering are less important.

Is the different capitalization on purpose (implying related but not identical values)?
Or would a 10 (3+7) turn boost cost just 12 (5+7) CC?
he may also pay 5 cc and ask the librarian to look in the low restricted section for a technique, refinement path or pill recipe of limited specification, he must still pay the full cc price to obtain it.
Are breathing techniques in the low restricted section, or would we need to gain more access to be allowed one of the techniques we didn't choose?

Feel like we have to take this for the coming one part combat event. It's tempting to pick up Refining but since we can change Breaths at will it should be doable later.

I wonder what the criteria for the scrolls we were given are. Every one was curated by the inner disciples. I know they gave us several, but I wonder why these were included. (Eg: Free fire Spirit root when we have none, in a clan all about Fire qi.)
