Seems reasonable... but do we really care enough to want a fire root? Like, fire pills are pretty cheap and easy, and our current path with the alchemy hall means that they're only going to get cheaper and easier over time.
Our best normal grade of root is pure at 3, so this would allow the production of fire Qi at a third of that cost once we have 8 merdians, creating a siphon costs 10 * the grade so would only be a 10 point project to provide 1 Qi per turn.
We will not get it now but a small amount of free Qi for autofailures could help and some cultivation quests have limits on how much Qi you can get from pills per turn.
It might even be worth it if the siphon only works as long as 2 merdians are used for this breath(or one if we create one with fire Qi).

Skills are the number of dice you roll, so Guang Li brewing with the tools is actually 3d10+4+10.
assuming average rolls this means 29 batches of pills or 111 pure Qi pills, the sect would take 83 of them and buy the rest at half price (the base price of pure Qi is 1 cc) so you will gain 14 cc out of that action.
Brewing for yourself of that would bring in 116 cc but cost 21 cc for the herbs for a 95 cc profit.
I will point out that the round in question, is combat rounds while actions are usually a good 3-4 hours a day for a month.

Sure, but the elders might look down on those who use them for the test, the point after all is to see if you're a reliable alchemist at that level not if you can imbue pills to push you there.

[X] Endlessly refining breath- a breathing technique consisting of long breaths infused with Qi meant to circle the power gained throughout one's body to refine it further toward perfection.
I mean, A) we cannot even us it right now and B) it has some pretty extreme drawbacks for switching. Turning it off means six turns of basically not training skills.
Like I see the value as it makes higher stages of skill development possible in reasonable timeframes but it practically demands being left up until we are done training skills for a while.

The alchemy hall test was -in contrast to Guang Li expectation- a single paper test in front of a bord inner disciple rather than any practical examination.
Both he and around a dozen older disciples, none of which he recognized and all of which ignored his attempts to strike any kind of conversation, were stuffed in an all to cramped room and given a single sheet of paper with twenty questions upon it and a single candle worth of time to answer as many as they could.
To pass they must answer ten questions correct.
The first five questions were simple and easy. Just asking about common herbs and their properties.
The kind of questions that Guang Li could answer in his sleep, even if his ancestors did not whisper in his ears the answers.
The five after that were questions about mixing various herbs together.
Things like what would the result of mixing two portions of blue lilies and one portion of a water infused black truffle, or the result of mixing treasured jewels herbs with demonic fire consuming herbs.
The answer to both was explosion.
Actually, the answer to all five questions was explosion. Some smaller than others -Guang Li shuddered at someone traying to mix roots of fragrant life and the juices of a lunar plum- but all resulting in injury to the incautious alchemist.
The five question after that, were a combination of the two types of question above. Asking not only about the properties of herbs but how would those properties interact with other ingredients and what precise portions of the two that would be best for certain potions.
Guang Li training to become a scribe has helped with the math portion of the questions while his general knowledge of alchemy -stuffed into his head by the ancestors- was sufficient to answer the question -correctly.
The five after that were a lost cause, not only did it take into account formulas and techniques that Guang Li has yet to reach in his studies it started ramping up the number of ingredients in each question, the least of which was a full seven different ingredients.
Even with the help of his ancestors, Guang Li only managed to answer one of the last five questions by the time the candle stick has fully brunt away.

Guang Li has barely left the small building that the even took place in before the inner disciple -to which he handed the test just a minute prior- swept him off his feet and deposited him in a small -but much more lavished- room.
An hour or so later and a small but old man with the robes of an elder walked in.
"Disciple Wang Li" the elder declared toward the bowing form of Guang Li "I am Gu Wei, third elder of the alchemy hall. As you have tested well enough to enter as a full member, I have taken it upon myself to bestow upon you the knowledge of the duties and benefits of being a part of my hall"
"Listen well, for I will not repeat myself".
Congratulation you have succeeded in entering the hall as a grade 4 alchemist (instead of an initiate) this mean you have gained the following benefits and duties.
We'll start with the duties.
One Guang Li action a turn must be spent on brewing pills, three fourths of the pills brewed in this action will be taken by the hall as a tax and payment for usage of the facilities and ingredients and the rest would be bought at half "market price". The hall would provide the herbs used for this action.
In times of war (when the sect itself is on war footing) all Guang Li actions would be spent on brewing pills (but he would be exempt from front line duty).
In times of inter sect conflict Guang Li would support the alchemy hall above all else (this really goes without saying but I figured it would be good to have this in writing).
In return.
Guang Li may use the advanced tools (30% ingredient cost reduction and +10 to his alchemy rolls only of brewing pills) and the advanced pill furnace (allows for mase production of pills) of the hall on his own time.
Evry turn he would attend lessons by the hall that amount to +10 progress to his alchemy skill, he may pay 5 cc to gain another +10 up to 3 times.
As a member of the hall, he gains their backing with the sect and the "shit list" pently is rescinded, he may also pay 5 cc and ask the librarian to look in the low restricted section for a technique, refinement path or pill recipe of limited specification, he must still pay the full cc price to obtain it.
Guang Li may buy common herbs at half the price from the hall and sell his pills and products at five percent above "market prices" to the hall.
Guang Li will be given a stipend of 10 cc a turn with which to help push his cultivation forward (and only his cultivation), he may retake the test once he reached QC 5 to be promoted to a grade 3 alchemist.

With his ancestors help Guang Li has managed to open another of his meridians. This time around the attempt occurred without difficulties, opening the meridian without any kind of strain put on his body and soul.
He also received a small reward for his effort and learned the breath of war technique.

Attempting to catch up to his peers in body cultivation -or at least not fall further behind- Guang Li and his ancestors spent the last month refining his heart and senses.
Utilizing reflection QI in refining his senses has led to some disorientation as the refining was in progress, the singles his senses sent to his brain being either reflected away, leaving him half blind and deaf or has been reflected into his brain twice, making him see double or hear the same sentence over itself.
All of those side effect disappeared when his senses were completely refined, his surroundings now cleared then ever and he gained a small resistance to harsh light and loud sounds.
He possessed no problems with refining his heart, the blood use was his after all. why would it reject him?
His heart beat just like before, perhaps just a touch stronger, but Guang Li knew that at a thought it could speed up, spreading the power hidden within into his body.

Up in the mountain that the verdant flame sect calls home, there is a small plateau that overlooks the outer disciples lodging court -one of them anyways- Guang Li loved going their when he wanted be alone.
Looking at the small forms of his fellow disciples going to and fro was helpful in giving him perspective. The rest of the view wasn't bad either. Form blaze city in the foot of the mountain to the plain that surrounded it, all showcasing the beauty of the world.
Today Guang Li wanted to be alone -even his ancestors were quieter than usual- he could not stand his fellow disciples on this day, not with the news flooding the sect.
Not even Shu Cai and Ma Fen were exempt.
He didn't blame them, they didn't know, couldn't know why Guang Li could not bear the constant gossiping upon the news that reached the sect this month.
Far to the east, in the former Guang lands a hidden enclave has been discovered, home to at least three dozen of the Guang blood. Li's kin and blood alive, a chance for him to no longer be alone in the world.
A day later they received the news that they were slaughter to the last by the ascendant sword sect, one of the three -formally four- great powers.
Not for the first time, Guang Li was happy he entered with a fake name into the sect, least he be killed for his ancestry.
He would return to his quest of vengeance tomorrow, today he wanted to mourn his kin once more. Rumor mill.
War- the disappearance of the Guang almost two years ago has led to the former lands being slowly encroached upon by opportunists and rivals. Slowly for it was not beyond thought for it to all be some sort of trick. Afterall how dos one of the four great powers of the world disappears over night?
The recent discovery of a Guang enclave and its subsequent destruction without any form of retribution has put that thought to bed. Now a mad race to claim as much of the Guang former sphere of influence has started.
Already there are reports of elders clashing with one another, there are even reports of Nascent souls coming to blows. The giants are waking, smelling the blood of the feast that might allow them total domination over the world.
Being far from the lands and vassals of the Guang the sect master has decided to adopt a natural position, let our rivals and enemies bleed themselves dray in the great to come as we of the verdant flame focused on our cultivation.

As always I'm on that Yin gathering grindset, I want to keep a fast pace of opening new meridians and I think gathering Yin qi is probably the bottleneck on that?

Yeah we definitely want to use Yang Qi here to breakthrough. If we autofail one more time then that's enough to autosucceed a breakthrough even on snake eyes (2+17+1=20).
Not sure , we bought the pass but im not sure we got the votes for the armor as well.
Anyway alchemy lessons are a good option, and so ia buying the formation for qi gathering boost.
Anyway for voters , we need to prep for the event .
Combat is the one key word we know of so raising it is likely important.
Also refining our weapon for better rolls is a goodd idea.
