It Belongs to a Museum

I'm just really interested in those sunken cities, ok?

... Having the Betrayer around is probably a terrible idea. Just because he's unlikely to betray us, doesn't mean he can't find someone else to betray in the area.

But those Knowledges are incredible, and I'm sure whatever happens will be hilarious.

Bahr is great because while Altdorf may be known for making inadvisable relic acquisitions, no one has yet tapped the market for inadvisable staff acquisitions.

Quick, someone figure out an Eltharin pun that includes a meaning for "The Gift Shop" :V
Pulling from the lexicon, which has zero grammatical rules attached beyond what can be derived from the few overlaps, Dassoir + Horinar + Arva + '-n' or 'na' somewhere, could theoretically be arranged to translate both as "The Place that Corrupts with Forbidden Knowledge" (a not-bad name for a dark museum), but also "Trading Area for Things You've Seen" (...Souvenir Shop).

Oh man, the staff are all such great characters, but I just can't resist a new student to teach.

[X] [STAFF] Lie of Aenarion

A bitter fifteen year old, burdened with a great and terrible destiny? Pahtsekhen will make him so much worse. There's no way in hell he's settling down as a museum curator. I want to see what disaster he becomes under Grandpa's influence (especially since we just got even more information about how other students have turned out).

Especially since it seems like we're on a bit of a time limit with him turning sixteen. I don't know if that would stop him from being an option, but he seems like we need to pounce now.

Of course, I'm betting there's a good curve the former students are also time limited.

[X] [AELSA] Governor
[X] [AELSA] Princess

I'm torn between these two, but the argument that Governor creates a better power base for maybe hopefully a breakaway state later is appealing.

I think Princess actually does the best job of securing Aelsa's power base while still heavily dependent on us. Not only does it involve really dubious means of removing her rivals but it also gives her more influence and ties to the mainland that will turn on her should the truth come out. It's power, real power- but it's indirect and very easy to lose should anything untoward be removed.

Moreover it paves the way to looting some of Tiranoc's sunken cities. An insane coup for our museum for sure, but also a way to create a wide reaching conspiracy with us that's really damning if it ever comes to light for the Elves involved. And once you're in that deep, while simultaneously not directly hurting anyone? Well it's really easy to just keep your head down and perpetuate the conspiracy- same principles as buying piratical goods.

I also like Princess , just because finding and looting a lost city was one of the original ways for a museum to make its name.

Black Regimand much? Some juicy knowledge too. But no, the thing that strikes me most is just the idea of Bahr heading out for his next big adventure, and Paht going all "You think now to betray us once again, Bahr."

And then the melodramatic duologue about Bhar's cunning and devious plan and his sudden but inevitable betrayal just being a form of well wishing for his next big adventure.

Especially as I can see him becoming a staff member who's "Betrayal" involves him heading off into some other part of the world for a few turns every now and then.

[X] [STAFF] Ibn Naggazar
I'm a simple being. I see an old student, I welcome him into our halls.

And if he brings an eclectic collection of knowledge and a rather impressive example of his works in the time since his departure, so much the better. And the alchemy would be rather useful for a few exhibits already.

You know for a fact that the Books of Nagash were crawling with magics that were supposed to make them impossible to replicate, but you couldn't go a decade without tripping over someone looking to add a new branch to that family tree, and more often than not they succeeded.
Yes Paht, and I'm sure the fact they all met you is just a coincidence.~

Honestly, the big draw to me here isn't the result. It's the methods. The Vampire coast as a whole acting in Cahoots with Aelsabrim. One method personally and secretly, the other somewhat more openly and to effect to the Elven colony as a whole.

Also torn between Tianroc relics and cultivating a relationship with Ulthuan and it's colonies of "What, the undead? They're just neighbors, same as anyone else. They can be reasoned with."

Amazing chapter full of amazing choices, great work boney! Loved reading all the options and i am seriously impressed how you come up with such interesting stuff. Thanks for the chapter!

I think a slow burn for Aelsabrim's turn to necromancy would be safer and make more sense. Her husband's soul is safe and can be revived later. Nehekharan tomb kings lay resting in their tombs for millenia and emerged mostly intact mentally, an elven soul will be even more enduring. Better that she gains enough political power that she can get away with necromancy than trying to rush things now. Also building a deeper knowledge of necromancy before going through with the raise is likely for the best, you only really get one shot and necromantic skill is the difference between a mindless zombie and a Vampire Lord.

I still like the opportunity for deep Old Ones and Amazon lore from the valkyrie the most, but I've warmed up a lot to the Barrow King too both for the necromancy skill and their own flavour. More of a choice between getting our bones animate, having some war specialists, and getting Aelsabrim a start in necromancy vs getting a better understanding of our main lustrian relics and opportunities for Old One lore, Lizardmen diplomacy, and Amazon connections. The other choices are interesting but I think these two benefit the museum's current growth and emerging specialities the most while giving intersting long-term opportunities.

I would say Bahr seems like a bit of a hidden trap option with his insane amount of specialties, but he is literally called The Betrayer. If we end up picking him security is going to have to ramp up a lot, even if he doesn't willingly betray us (doubtful) any number of his "old friends" could pay the museum a less than firendly visit.

If we are going for the Lie of Aenarion as the current lead says, we should spend our next Goodwill developing him. It's the most appropriate, and while his current skillset isn't that impressive (only basic covering Ulthuan and Beasts), if he can develop those skills further he'll be exemplary with both the Governor (Asur militaria) and Princess (Tiranocian sunken relics) possibilities.

That sixteenth year time limit is so funny, honestly. Thousand year lifespans and Khaine decides his curse runs on human YA adventure novel rules.

Gonna be real, the 'we should wait' options sound like when Boeny had to clarify "no getting it done sooner is better than later" for the initial vote. Giving her power and agency means she has less time to futz about with the already dead and likely kinda chill soul of her husband.

TBH my understanding is although elven legal adulthood is at something like 100 years old, that's more on the level of expertise the elves consider the BASICS of a subject and an elven 16 year old is indeed at much the same level of development as a human 16 year old.

honestly that would be quite touching. subverting a title so ominous with something so personal. Like mathy adopting a cat called morr.
